A most-excellent study and presentation. Really appreciate you taking the time to do this and share. Answered several questions for me.

Super helpful video, thanks for this. But at 4:3 the Phantom 4 Pro shoots 4864×3648, and at 3:2 it shoots 5472×3648. Wouldnt 3:2 be a better setting?

This was very helpful, I experienced motion blur in my flight lines for the first time today. I will definitely refer to these instructions for testing tomorrow.

I know this is an old video but just wanted to thank you. I work for a civil engineering/land surveying and fly for the surveying department from time to time. Mostly creating ortho's to check line work on large surveys. These tips are really going to help improve accuracy. My only issue is the company bought a Mavic 2 Pro and I use my P4P because of the mechanical shutter. Will the rolling shutter be that big of an issue with PIx4d? I'd rather use their Mavic for work.

There's no problem using the Mavic 2 Pro for mapping, you just have to adjust your flight settings. Using Pix4D Capture with IOS, you can set "SAFE PICTURE TRIGGER MODE" which will make the drone hover in position to take each picture instead of doing it while moving (In Android, you can only slow down your fly speed to the minimum, however it doesn't guarantee blur-free images). This will increase your overall fly time, so adapt accordingly, either by cropping or dividing the area into several flights (Pix4D Capture has a built-in multi-battery flight but I do not recommend it. I would rather plan in advance several flights according to my battery life, ~20min/flight). Also, I believe some processing apps such as DroneDeploy and Pix4D have already some algorithm that fixes the rolling shutter effect. Good luck!

These instructions regarding camera settings seem appropriate for brightly lit scenes without large tall objects. If you were say mapping a 100 acre area on a dim, cloudy day and you have trees, hills, etc that are as tall as 150ft, this may not work. It would seem a bit more 'bulletproof' method would be to use autofocus and if the app you are using supports it, just use shutter priority and let the camera set ISO based on the light conditions. If ISO exceed 800 you may get too much noise though and so you may need to limit the drone speed further and use a slower shutter speed.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. One question: what is the best camera angle for mapping with a Phantom4 Pro? Vertical?

When you say Shutter is 1600, is it 1/1600? coz i dont have 1600 in my settings but only 1/1600.
@scotthemedic3 жыл бұрын
Yes Shutter speeds below 1:1 (1 second) are measured in fractions of a second. 1/2 = 0.5s Shutter of 2 = 2 sec.

Exactly. The most important factor.
