I fell in love with these stoves in the 50s when Mam and Dad took me on holliday camping and have been a collector ever since and the smell of paraffin is sublime.

Cool! I love all those little brass stoves! I'd love to collect them, but my wife might leave me. Too many "collections." Lol.

The flame spreader that sits on the bell are a job to get hold of, I had to have 2 made out of s/steel, so don't lose them.

On the later versions of your stove, the reserve cap screws on to the end of the pump knob when not in use.

Great video - actually useful! - I have borrowed one of these from my father, he used to use it on all out long car journeys back when I were a lad (he was allergic to service stations). I just borrowed it for the nostalga trip now I know how it works! Thanks.

Ive had a 00 since 1970. The fuel must be CLEAN. 2x or 3x filtered or it will fire intermittently

The yellow is just the soot from the meths burning off (or some oxides from the spreader) :) Nothing abnormal. Very pretty stove this is!

Thank you very much, this is very helpful. I have one of these, that had been my Grandad's and I've just bought the fuel to give it a try. Edit: I cannot get the lipstick burner to have a flame. Once the methylated spirits has burned away, that's it. I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions please?

Quick question, to simmer do you slacken of release valve then tighten again or just leave it slack? Not too clear I know but I have no idea about this type of stove, thanks for the video.

Hi. You just slacken it and then re tighten when the flame is as you want it. 👍

I have one of these stoves,not used it yet and was wondering can i use methylated spirit as the main fuel?
@pierauspitz

Late answer, but: NO, they are designed to burn kerosene/paraffin only. Petrol and alcohol are very volatile and you will end up with a big fireball on your face if you use them in this stove. There is also the issue of gasket corrosion. alcohol will eat through the gasket like there is no tomorrow.

What exactly is paraffin?
@vovapantera1646

Kerosene
@Wasamatau
@Wasamatau 3 жыл бұрын
@@vovapantera1646 NO. It is NOT. That's a British misnomer. Kerosene is kerosene. Paraffin is paraffin. Both are distilled "petroleum products." Paraffin is more distilled with more byproducts removed (less soot and smell than kerosene) and a lower flash point (more volatile) than kerosene. Paraffin is closer to gasoline than kerosene is. In the US, paraffin is candle wax, a solid not a liquid, but paraffin can be made into both states, liquid or solid. It is still not kerosene. In the US there is naptha, "white gas," or Coleman fuel, for vintage camp stoves and lanterns. All are the same petroleum distillate. I would be interested to know why this is not the case in Great Britain. Is it really still paraffin and not naptha?
