Tesla holds some public meetings every year regularly. Like shareholders day, battery day, artificial intelligence day... The biggest surprise on artificial intelligence day last year was the announcement of Tesla Bot. They announced that they are going to build a robot to help us with our daily works. They shared their very stylish looking design. What they showed as a robot was this. Someone dancing in a spandex costume. having a different kind of pleasure to troll his viewers and followers, Elon Musk, added right after the dancer explained that he wasn't a real robot: "Tesla Bot will be real..." It's been 13 months since. Obviously, engineers have worked hard to keep this promise. Because on the 2022 Artificial Intelligence day held last week, they finally put the humanoid robot they called Tesla Bot onto the stage. The robot, walking with awkward steps as if to fall at any moment, greeted other people without a human inside. Without a human in it, I wonder if that is the case? I have a number of questions in my mind about the robot, and I will address them later, but first, let's get to know it better. It's a humanoid robot, standing 1.73 meters/ 5’8 tall and 57 kilos/ 125lbs. In other words, it is designed similar to the human anatomy. It has legs and hands like a human. Using them, it will be able to carry loads of 20kg/44lbs. To make it move a total of 40 electromechanical parts, two on the neck, two on the torso, and 12 on the hands, arms and legs, were used. Notice that the number of pieces in the hands alone is the same as in the arms and legs. They emphasize this part especially. They say that the hands are at the human level. Because this is one of the most important problems in the field of robotics. To this date, especially the Japanese have made very important progress in robots. Tesla isn't the first automobile maker to build its own robot. Honda introduced its robot called Asimo in 2000. For exactly 22 years, Asimo danced and waved at people on stage, and finally retired on March 31, 2022, after meeting with his fans for the very last time. Because it did nothing but show off.
So, is Tesla designing its own robot for the same purpose? Yes, their’s is also performing on stage for now, but unlike Honda's Asimo, Tesla's Optimus robot will be produced and sold in large numbers. Its price is said to be around $20,000. According to their own statements, Tesla Bot envisions a new generation of automation.
In our daily life, we would make it do some dangerous or repetitive or boring work for us. So it will be a home robot. It will collect and cook food in the kitchen, and will help take care of children or the elderly at home.
