The playing area is perfectly oval with the giant screen at one of the ends but its funny when they play cricket there, they do so on an elliptical playing area meaning the giant screen is on the square boundary. But have to say the WACA had more character and charm while this seems to be another soulless concrete bowl, at least going by the two tests it has hosted so far.

It’s very hard to recreate the character of the older grounds like the WACA or Lords. That being said, these new grounds provide a wonderful spectator experience in terms of view and facilities.

@@DroneVictoria_au true. Wonder why they couldn't redevelop the Waca just like they did the adelaide oval instead of building a brand new stadium? Even if they did maybe for footy, they could have played most of the cricket at the Waca and just played only the marquee matches such as an ashes test or wc matches at the perth stadium. The stadium is anyway a bit too big going by the aussie cricket crowd size standards. The perth scorchers were playing in front of full houses at the waca but now are mainly playing in front of a half empty or 70% full stadium. Affects the atmosphere and the intimidation factor. Plus empty seats never look good on telly.

There Only 3 Cricket Stadiums in the world who has LED lights inserted on roof instead of Towers of Halogen lamp. 1) Dubai International Stadium 2) Marvel Stadium 3) Optus Stadium And 2 more Stadiums but are under-construction. 1) Motera Stadium 2) Rafi Cricket Stadium

Actually although they are in the roof. Marvel’s lights are not LED. They are traditional halogen globes.

You are right, it is a concern. It could be Big Bash is now 10 years old and the famous international players like Brett Lee have all retired and most of Australia's international players do not participate in Australia T20 competition. Crowds are good for international matches but they were very poor in Perth and Brisbane this season too. I think too with the rise of the IPL players are now millionaires after only a few years of playing so the best will only play international games and IPL where the big money is.
