Wow, flashbacks! I remember playing this with my group in high school.

You keep impressing me by introducing me to composers that even I have never heard of. Keep up the good work! This piece is sorta an amalgam of Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Schumann, but it is a good amalgam. Perhaps even a bit of Mahler in the scherzo (well, Gavotte as the composer called it)...and behind all that, lurks Beethoven! Still has his own style despite his influences, and sad that most of his music besides this piece is neglected.

I already uploaded Thuille's Romantische Overtüre two years ago, and his two Violin Sonatas are coming this week! :)

I don't think this is my first hearing of the piece, but this time I'm rather charmed, and I may seek out this disc for my collection. I too hear bits of Brahms here and there, but let's ask ourselves, would Brahms have written a sextet for piano and winds? I don't think so, but I'm happily reminded of the lost chamber original of the Serenade #1 (winds and strings, no keyboard) that at least two arrangers have re-constructed.
