This is a fun watch. I'm a casual gamer who doesn't play much made after the year 2000, I'm not a speed runner, and I generally don't have the patience to 100% games except for those that aren't necessarily difficult, like every Zelda game before this. But I love to 100% this series. I haven't found a good, concise guide to do so online. Admittedly I probably haven't looked hard enough. One day I'll go through this one again and take notes for a good route.

I remember beating the platinum tier dance thing in ages once, it was total BS. if I hadn't been playing on 3ds with save states it probably would have taken me 500x longer...or I'd've given up...not sure which either way, it was painfully awe inspiring to see it so casually cleared on the first go in this run

Amazing that you actually did a 100% speedrun of the oracle games. Could you explain the way you RNG manipulated the blue rupees for farming the rings?
@Stewmat5 жыл бұрын
RNG is seeded with a constant value on hard resets, and only advances with random events. Screen transitions advance RNG 256 times (for determining enemy placements even when there are none on-screen), and swinging the sword advances RNG once. For rings, I used trial and error to determine how to get each one. For blue rupees, I wrote a lua script to search the RNG sequence for big blue rupees, and wrote down the number of screen transitions and sword slashes necessary to get them. I don't use the lua script during the run, but the results are always the same.

Why isn´t visiting every map tile a part of the 100 % completion?
@Stewmat5 жыл бұрын
100% definitions tend to be a bit arbitrary, but they usually focus on inventory items or abilities. I don't think there's precedent for map completion as a requirement for 100% runs in zelda games. Also, map completion isn't even possible if ages is the unlinked game. Not a problem with this particular route, but it would seem strange to require it.
@DKQuagmire5 жыл бұрын
@@Stewmat don't forget. there's that one tile in oracle of ages, in the sea of storms, which can't be accessed without cheating/ glitching or using an actual linked game as the zora is in a different location that gives you access to the tile in the linked game. so through normal gameplay, it's impossible to get that one tile.

Is English worse because of any real difference, or just because they slowed down the text?
@Stewmat5 жыл бұрын
Text isn't slower, there's just more of it in english. But the bigger reason english is slower is because of savewarps. The japanese versions can be reset more quickly. That said, the english version has an exclusive glitch which lets us cut out an entire playthrough of Ages, which definitely overshadows the japanese timesaves.

Why was he using an action replay?
@Stewmat5 жыл бұрын
It's a gamecube action replay, which has no effect on the operation of the gameboy player itself, only the video output in this case. I was using homebrew to change the output resolution from 480i to 240p, because it looks a bit nicer. The action replay itself is only an entry point for gamecube homebrew, not for cheats. (At least that's how I use it.)
