Thank you for the video a lot, and big thank to Braun engineers whoever they are for not gluing this thing shut or not using any adhesives like smartphones have nowadays. I just ordered io9 from Amazon and since battery is a consumable in any electronics, I was wondering what it takes to replace a battery on this one. Now I feel way more confident about that!
@jadoei132 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, I must say that putting it back together was a bit more challenging that I had hoped for and the seal might not be quite the same anymore. Defenitly wouldn't do this out of curiousity on a new brush again. The seal at the bottom of the brush is easy enough but the one at the top has to be sqeezed back under the metal ring. Once you've gently pushed the housing back over the assembly (without putting unnecesary force on the charging coils at the bottom of it) the seal is sitting on top of the metal ring. To make it look like new again you need to find a way to push the seal down and under the metal ring and then back up into it. I ended up using the knife from my pocket knife (keep the cutting surface away from the seal) as it was the only thing thin and strong enough I could find. Place the brush flat on the table, and place the knife between the metal ring and seal, again making sure the knife can't cut the seal. This should guide the seal without damaging it, and using a slightly wider object like a credit card to push the seal towards the middle of the handle. Once you've got it started you can slowly work your way around the handle and afterwards you can gently push the seal up into the ring. I ended up using my nails but just be gentle with sharp objects, you don't want to damage the seal too much. Keep doing that all the way around till it won't go any further (you can probably see the slight ring on the seal from where the metal ring used to end).

I recently bought this toothbrush, I am a bit concerned that you mentioned and showed that the motors are corroded on your brush after such a short amount of time(the brush is supposed to last anywhere from (2-5 years), could you give a guess why that corrosion took place? Is there anything that blocks the top that is normally exposed when the toothbrush is put together from water tricking down to the motors because that would be my guess for the corrosion. And did you put the battery back after removing it and was your "turning on and off by itself" problem solved? Anyways sorry for the long comment but thanks!
@voyagergaming18123 жыл бұрын
Hey! There is a rubber gasket at the top that should prevent all water from getting inside although even to this day I don't know how it happened. When I had put it back together it was still turning itself on and off so I ultimately had to RMA the unit; the replacement brush has had no issues thus far but I'm also extra careful about drying off the brush completely before putting it back into the travel case.
@nami15403 жыл бұрын
@@voyagergaming1812 Thanks for this good content. There is a small hole at the back, wich actually goes through. The water might come from that. It is there do prevent an explosion from a malfunctioning battery. My next guess then would also be, that it came from the top. My previous Oral-B brush was the 6000 smart, which actually still works. I did not take good care of it and didn't even disassemble it after each use. This will inevitably lead to dirt and mold buildup and probably some leakage inside the brush. It started smelling and the white plastic turned yellowish over the last 8 years I had it (I love the reliability, though). I really recommend and try myself to follow the cleaning instruction from the manual this time: Disassembly and rinse of both components after use + fully drying them before putting them back together. Nock the hand-piece upside down on a towel as well, as a lot of water will be trapped in the top mechanism.

Glad the video helped you out. AA is certainly compatible, although just keep in mind that the stock battery Oral-B uses is rated for 3.7v while most generic AA batteries brands are only 1.2v-1.5v. With this being said If you type in 14500 battery into Amazon you'll actually find a good amount that range from 3.6v-3.7v with a much larger mAh capacity which, theoretically, should work completely fine - just be carful about recharging non-rechargable batts as they could leak/explode; Keep us updated if you do end up making the swap!
