Big red flag for that mother. Kids need discipline, not abuse.

They are little sponges . Our grand daughter is 3 she is wanting to understand and know everything. We let her help all the time she loves to help out. She is amazing just like our children were . They are only little once let them explore and enjoy them every chance you can . Encourage them to learn it's great for their confidence.

Many times, when Id go to an event where kids were present , I'd take my guitar or banjo along and teach them a simple song or two.I'd usually just set the instruments down when I'd take a break. Pretty soon I'd hear a plink or plunk and a little kid would be examining the instrument.More often than not, an adult would rush up and tell the child not to touch the man's things.I would have to stop them and remind them that kids are curious and wouldn't hurt anything.Then I would tell the child go ahead and try it, see if you like playing it.That usually got a big grin out of them and soon a couple more would join them.None of these kids ever damaged any of my instruments and I hope that their curiosity led them to learn something about how to make music. I agree with you Im an older guy and when I was little I remember hearing many times children should be seen and not heard !!!! What a crappy thing to say to a little kid ! So I love little kids and I enjoy watching them learn and how interested in life they are and that's how they learn when people like yourself take interest in them and teach them how to do things like cook or bake etc.What ever it is !! Poor little girl probably wished her mom was more like you !

I thought this was an instructional video on giving oral. Then I was really freaked out that the story was about a young child. So, I'm relieved that this didnt go where I thought and the mother appears to have some issues. Question, was it a pattern of behavior or isolated. Hope it all turned out well.

Her mother is only asking for trouble as the child will one day rebel against her authority. The mother should had let her child help, that is being well behaved which the mother applied her own bad behavior and spoiled the evening. She was the immature one.

Two things; my good friend had a baby girl that was abused as a babe. Her parents my friend never told her about what happened. The person responsible was caught and punished but she too was abused as a child. Second I was in a bowling league with four to a team like 32 weeks long and one lady had to babe sit her grand daughter during the league and I said "Hi" to her, she was about 8. The first thing she said was "God is Dead". I acknowledged that is a possibility but tried to reassure her without telling her that is wrong. Make a long story short I would make little tests on blank piece of paper. at first math then spelling towards the end we did story boards and made up stories, or i would ask how many jumping jacks or how many times can you jump on one foot? From 2+2 = 4 to her times tables and even some division and Algebra. At the end I could not count how many jumping jacks she could do I had to time her like 10 to fifteen minuets. last I heard she was in her schools advanced classes. She got lucky that bowling in a league is very boring.

it is also bad behavior to yank the child out of the kitchen and exposing the host couple to a crying child. The mother has no self control - and she was upset because she KNEW that she herself had misbehaved. If she was of the opinion that the child should not have gone into the kitchen, she just could have told the little one to come, maybe reminding her: I told you to stay with us. However even that is a weird idea. She would not like if her husband would take her to a party where she cannot talk to anyone (no one is interesting) and nothing interesting happens (interesting for her). Adults require from children what they would not endure themselves. Only that children have less frustration tolerance and a much shorter attention span and a much, much higher natural drive to move their bodies. The mother also could have stayed in the kitchen maybe helping the host, maybe just "assisting" her daughter's efforts (and miking sure she did not get into the way of the hostess). The little girl would have been super proud how she helped preparig the food. And the instruction: Behave yourself is not the same as explicit instructions what to do or not to do. listing all of it would of course get tiresome and could never be complete - so the basic rules are: Do not run around indoors and ask before you touch things.

If the child was told not to do something then the child should not be doing so. The grabbing her by the arm may have been a bit much, the parent was not in the wrong! That’s the problem with kids, not enough punishment being dealt. If I tell my kid to do something, they should be doing so. I guess no one here was ever spanked or punished.
@franziskani9 ай бұрын
I very much doubt that the impatient mother with insufficient self control (yanking a child away that helped in the kitchen, really) told the child to not go into the kitchen. Children cannot grasp broadly generalized orders (behave yourself). The girl will remember that she had fun and was appreciated and helpful until her mother yanked her out, humilated her, did something that could potentially hurt her shoulders - and the girl had no clue what she had done wrong. The hostess encouraged the behavior of the child - I guess she was lucky not be yanked out of the kitchen. I think the mother felt ashamed of having lost control (in front of strangers) and got defensive, no matter how gently the hostess mentioned that it was O.K. for the kid to help her, that she actually enjoyed it. In a few years the same mother will complain that the kids do not like to help with chores. She is not a kind person that can make concession to the way small children work. (Parents can act frustrated - but this woman was ashamed, but at the same time saving face was more important than admitting her lack of self-control. She wanted to redefine that as being consistent discipline). Children need to move a lot, they have much lower frustration tolerance than mature people, less self control (well her mother also had none or she would not have yanked the child away, in front of other people no less when most people try to maintain a good impressiion). Children also have a much shorter attention span. Frustrating children by making them sit (or stay in the room with little movement) while the adults engage in a conversatiion that is uninteresting for the kids, and with nothing to do that interests them - that is unreasonable. If you take children with you when meeting adults concessions must be made to the natural needs of children.
