Brings back memories. I lived in Modjeska Canyon, near Silverado, during the early/mid 90s. Moved to New Mexico after that, then Colorado, and been in Colorado since early 98. I used to pass Cook’s Corner every day to and from work. I miss that area. Very beautiful. I didn’t ride street then, but I do now. Wish I did then. Would have been magical.

I’ve been watching a lot of your earlier videos and two things are obvious. One is that I have much softer views on what people like and ride. I guess that’s an age thing! The other is how much more I appreciate the effort you put in to the online content part of the business. You really have lovingly (sacrificed, lost hundreds of personal hours off etc) created a great legacy.

I often take my 1 hr. lunch break cycling down Santiago Canyon Road to relax. When headed to or from Cook's, I often veer off a small section of that road and climb up an over the steep & twisty road which peaks at the gate to Trubuco truck trail over Mojeska. Awesome climb & views - really twisty! I prefer to pass over that mountain coming from the Silverado direction, through part of Mojeska then to the right, up, up, up . . . and over. Going to the left on occasion (or, if descending and continuing straight), I travel over that lower road of small homesteads where there's trails at the end to walk off a meal and a wildlife preserve . . . even a rushing stream after a good winter's rain or snow melt and interesting historical information to be gotten. Toilets can be found at a visitor center. I LOVE the rugged insides of Silverado Cafe but with COVID-19, they've pulled the bar stools where there was mucho friendly dining shoulder to shoulder and no current indoor booth seating as you saw. I even really love that primitive, rustic toilet. It fondly reminds me of childhood shacks I had built, old farm towns of my youth, of pragmatic home-built rural structures that got the job done by people now long gone. The staff there varies but always very friendly - lovely female servers, talented/hardworking male servers & cooks, the occasional killer brownie to be had near the check-out and, soccer games up on the tele. Perhaps not for everyone's taste but I generally really love just lopin' up the climb through town, face shield off or open, often experiencing that sheltered feel like Live Oak Canyon Rd. but this time not just because of tree coverage but also because of the very steep, rocky slopes on either side of the road. I ride at least to the gate at Maple Springs. In winter, it's my local taste of nostalgia for my Northern roots with increasingly cold air, occasional fog and/or light snow, dark, brooding skies and again, sometimes violently rushing water in the creek to the side of that road or upper parking lot after a good snow melt - a nearby out & back single track trail lies just a quarter mile past the gate (day pass required if leaving vehicle). One COULD hike all the way up to the main divide. They close the gate for frogs . . . and when ground conditions are fragile. I've taken a number of my street bikes past the gate, up & up Maple Springs Rd. until the sharp bend where all turns to dirt and stone truck trail. Again, it's not for everybody but, I LOVE to turn there and coast downhill in that fresh, clean air until getting back to the cafe. I only start up the bike extremely briefly 2-3 times to clear slight rises in the pavement. It's SO peacefully quiet this way, giving me that sense of freedom of movement, the simplicity of my boyhood bicycling days, yet with the knowledge of an engine start-up at the end to carry me great distances away. Boy! I get some looks from surprised hikers and dog walkers I occasionally pass. It's pretty much all brakes to keep the speed down and enjoy some sights missed on the accent. The decent SEEMS to last a good twenty minutes - I never checked. One can feel like a silent spirit descending from the heavens back down to earth and people with an occasional "pop" from small stones or pea gravel shot from the sides of the treads. It's a sweet experience with no peddling. All the best, friends . . .

Watching Mike ride while you describe his character brought my mind to EASY RIDER and that TALL SISSY BAR and that thought put on the back of my Harley Davidson gave me the idea of using CC and the passenger seat and my feet on the handle bars- now that is CRUISING. if I can rig up a remote crawler clutch, I could ride through Sturgis with my feet on the handlebars.

In a car you're always in a compartment, and because you're used to it you don't realize that through that car window everything you see is just more TV. You're a passive observer and it is all moving by you boringly in a frame. On a cycle the frame is gone. You're completely in contact with it all. You're in the scene, not just watching it anymore, and the sense of presence is overwhelming. -Robert Pirsig Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. This quote sums up exactly why I ride.
