I remember when my grandmother's machine came back from the shop from being converted from a treadle to a knee pedal. She was a seamstress from the 1920s through the 1940s. I was especially glad to see this because I ordered a replacement belt for my Singer 185 J and got this orange toothy thing and thought I was sunk. Now I know all is well. Thank you so much!

I like nerdy history. :-) My grandfather electrified a treadle Singer for my grandma. I wish I had that machine today!

You commented that the person you used to purchase the vintage style belts from has retired. Any other resource you know of to get them now?

i have buyed a orange beld, put on my mashine and tested... about an year later, i need to sewing something and motor start spin, but the belt slips... then I saw that the belt started to fall apart... the orange belts are cheaper than blacks, the black belts are more durable...

Is sew-classic closed now? I tried looking for a belt for my Necchi 534FB and am having trouble finding the right lug belt for it.
@VintageSewingMachineGarage3 жыл бұрын
Sadly yes. The owner retired and the business was closed. I miss it since I found it had a well laid out website for finding some of the items I needed.

Ok. Thanks so much. And thank you for all the videos and tutorials. This has been my starting point as I've just gotten into restoring vintage machines in the past 6 months or so. I love learning something new every day and I love the history you share and your teaching style.

So can I cut a leather treadle belt to fit an electric motor?
@VintageSewingMachineGarage3 жыл бұрын
No, I would not attempt that. Leather belts will be difficult to keep tension on an electric machine due to how they stretch. You can try pre-stretching in a pinch but you will likely be much happier buying a belt made for electric models.
