Orange Micro Terror vs Micro Dark

Comparison of both amps side by side with the same 8” speaker cab. Played through a Peavey Patriot single bridge humbucker. The Dark Terror seams louder at lower volumes, but the Micro gets loud and distorted when cranked too. Forgive me for the quality, as I promise to improve that over time. Like it for the unique comparison, not the production :) !!!

Thanks for being one of the few people that matched the micros to the cabs they were meant to be paired with. I have heard the dark on a 4x12 cab. It was great.

Yeah, did this video on a random night a couple of years ago, so quality is poor, but it shows the difference as they come. I think they have a lot more potential and sound better on a 10” speaker, but these are still great little amps. Thanks for watching.

I wish Orange made a 10 inch speaker cab. My goal is to get an Orange Dark Terror with a 10 inch speaker. I'm set on a 10 inch because of the 10 in the 65 Fender Princeton amp. I want less weight and size to carry around as well.

I’ve heard these through a lot of cabs up to a 412. I preferred it with a 10” cab I had. The 6” factory speaker is nice for a compact rig, but it really restricts what these amps can do. I think I said 8” in the video, but I didn’t really know. This was one of the first videos I ever recorded randomly one night in my garage. Thanks for watching!

I'm thinking of getting one of these to double as a low volume bass practice amp, so it sounds like the white one is cleaner at given knob settings. For guitar I don't need extra high gain anyway. But the Dark seems to have more bass along with more distortion.

My main issue is one has the aux input, and one has the fx loop. why cant they have both? or why cant the tiny terror have both? damnit lol

My assumption is because the dark has more drive, they figured the loop is more useful for putting pedals after the gain, and the white one is more likely to use the aux input since it is cleaner?

I’ve got a small problem, I’ve put away all my power chords for storage, jacks and what nots, now I can’t remember what chord goes to what, I’ve got the two jacks to connect both little (micro terror) amps ) but the little head for them I don’t know how to hook up in the sense of what pier chords came with product, in other words I need a list of chords to plug in so I don’t use wrong chord and damage this equipment

How do they take pedals?

They both take pedals pretty well, but the dark terror has a pedal loop built in on the backside, so that is an even bigger benefit.

Yes, defiantly more versatile, especially with pedals, but the dark cleans up with a roll back of the volume knob.

The head can handle any cab. I mostly play it with a one 10” cab. These factory cabs are only equipped with 6” speakers so you would not get much on the low end.

@@briansuniqueguitars Actually, The factory cabs have an 8" speaker and the low end is surprisingly good - tight, not flubby. Also, the amp won't do less than 8 ohm. Usually not a problem.

Don't be fooled by marketing to imagine there's any benefit , or any specific compatibility, with the smaller cabs/ speakers,- always going to sound better the bigger the speaker you're running it into .In fact, no good reason to waste money on any speaker under "12,- unless you're running multiple "10's.

These are nice bedroom amps. I agree about the size of the speaker, as I was really impressed when I saw one of these hooked up to a 412 cabinet. Hmm...maybe an idea for another video. Thanks for watching and putting up with the poor production. This was one of my first videos.

@@chrishyde1216 " Bedroom volume" is no doubt very low, and yes, - if that's all you want, a good 10" will be a good choice. I push more bass than normal, - using drop tunings, and playing both baritone, and modified short scale bass, so I do stick with 12's or multiple 10's.I would add that, with speakers, you def get what you pay for.Partially why those mini Orange cabs are stupid expensive, but then, Orange products usually are. If you can, try a few different kinds of speakers; they really do make a big difference in your overall sound.

While you're not wrong, have you ever heard a Roland Micro Cube? They're only a 2 watt amp with 5in speaker but it'll hurt your ears if you crank it in a smaller room

Not sure what fully mean, it is an amp, but if you are talking about speaker cabinets, yes you connect it to other cabinets.

I wanted to do a full micro stack with my Micro Dark, but my PPC108 only has 1 output...they used to have 2 outputs!

Yes, that is what I thought you meant, but looking back my reply didn't sound that way. Mine what looks like 2 inputs on the back. I started researching it, and it says the older ones have 2 inputs and the newer ones have 1 input. I have seen other people connect 2, but not sure they did it correctly at the correct Ohms. I guess more digging to do...Thanks for your comments!

@@briansuniqueguitars That is correct. I had the Micro Terror stack when they first came out, before the Micro Dark was available...that cab had 2 inputs. I had to sell that stack and later bought a Micro Dark with a PPC108...I looked at the back like where the fuck is the other input?! Lol. According to Orange, it was an ohm fix...?

Yes it can. Assuming this is for a bedroom rig, not for a gig. Although it would probably gig fine with a mic to a PA. Just not much low end.
