I am so pissed with myself. Im not intirely sure where I got this idea that I hated the sound of Orange amps. I believe I seen some horrible review years and years ago. Ive been trying to get this tone all my life. Its absolutely perfect in every way. Im more into the blues tone it make but you have shown it even does hard shit to. Ive been playing for almost 17 years and it took scrolling down ampitide presets to wake up. Sl then I searched it and it is the tone. I have now seen 20 vids. Im going to sell my soul. I WILL OWN THIS AMP.

Just as a note, Matamp made the original 1960's Orange amps that this is in tribute to, check out Matamp, they're still going and are still hand making custom amps with those lovely vintage british voices. I could be a bit biased because I just bought one myself, but honestly they are mind-blowingly nice, and not much more expensive than top of the line oranges.

You've given one of the best reviews I've heard about Orange and other amps balancing your feelings with good demonstrations of the amps abilities while drawing attention in your afterward to the amps drawbacks [weight and limited aka focused sound/performance]. Thanks for giving such a thoughtful and thorough review and keep up the good work. AjH

Holy shit, once you start playing at 0:30 into this, you convinced me to get one. I was hovering between the OR100 and an Axe-Fx 2 for quite some time now...and seeing how the Axe-Fx2 is always out of stock (and the XL costing $300 more, despite being available) I've pretty much made up my mind. Nothing beats this thick, brutal valve tone. It's so versatile too. Fuck this thing is great.

Somehow the amp completely slipped me by. I didn't know they had made it. I'd had a TH30, then an OR15 and an mk3 Rockerverb 100. Loved them both, but I felt like there was a little something missing. Then I got my Rocker 30, and it's amazing. A little grittier or grainier...and simple. Thirty watts is plenty, but at the same volume on the stage, a 100w is just a little more controlled. That's the thing, yeah nobody NEEDS a hundred watter nowadays, but the hundred watt amp will be tighter at the same volume on the stage. Sometimes that's necessary... So then I heard this amp. It's perfect. One less gain stage than the Rockerverb for that extra grit. I just bought a used one that's on its way to me now. Your review is spot on. There's a lot of good amp companies out there, and I've owned a lot of them, but nothing sounds like an Orange, and none are built like them. Tanks. Heavy as hell, simple, they do a handful of tricks perfectly instead of a bunch of tricks that are all mediocre. If I can't get the sound out of the OR or the Rocker, then it's not one I need. Bottom line.
@Robstafarian
@Robstafarian 11 жыл бұрын
You didn't mention which tone you want. Regarding the OR15, it has the same preamp as the Jim Root Terror with a more "vintage" voicing. I put that in quotation marks because, whereas the voice is midrange growl (you can scoop the mids, but they're not pre-scooped), it has no less gain than a more "modern" amp (four stages). A pair of WGS Green Berets in an oversized 2x12 closed back cab suits the voicing, while the sound goes from big to HUGE as the gain increases (no lack of low end punch).

Hi mate I sort of play Melodic Hardcore punk/ metal music mainly. The nearest I can think of to explain what i play is heavy bluesy metal riffs some times but i also play fast chord/power chord progressions with variations of tremolo picking mixed in there in a hardcore punk fashion if you know what i mean. My question is would an orange amp ( I'm looking at a rockerverb 50 mkii) suit this style of music, i hear the terms loose, dark and muddy thrown around alot. What do you think?

Yes, it will be similar. I believe they are the same designs except for only one single channel so no separate clean channel and less output power. lower wattage will sound slightly sweeter and have less headroom but if you are after these tones for a lesser price you will be happy. a, less headroom (meaning it will distort faster as turn up the volume and gain knobs)
@givemeajackson
@givemeajackson 11 жыл бұрын
btw, i actually think this tone would be great for death metal. not for a modern coretone, and not for techdeath either, but great for some benediciton/bolt thrower/morbid angel tones. and maybe also for some brutal death metal where you need a lot of top end fizz and some bass end. from what i've heard here i think it would definitely get a tone similar to defeated sanity's chapters of repugnance album if the rest of the mix is right.

Hello Fluff! New fan here and I'm binging through wonderful vid after vid and here in 2015 it's obviously late and arguably off topic ish ,but I feel hopefully compelled to ask if you think the TH 30 is a decent amp in a similar comparison of the lower wattage range. I just picked mine up a few months ago and I'm happy still with the stock tubes and all, I just couldn't afford the extra thousand for a TV100. Having watched a vid where you mention EL84s and lunchbox not having that low end resonance, Made me wonder if there are similar better amps in that price range? I love orange and will very likely starve this fall to pick up my TV100.

You could make it work, but Orange amps are always just a little fizzy. With a noisegate and a TS9 with the drive rolled all the way off, the volume cranked, and the tone at noon it does a decent job of taming that fizziness.

+Ryan “Fluff” Bruce question for the faq monday: what is the most versatile amp for every genre and also good live?
@owwwwcccchhhh
@owwwwcccchhhh 8 жыл бұрын
+Killian Shows As much as I'm not a fan of it, people seem to love the Peavey Valveking for just about every genre. Such as some blues players love it, and if you go anywhere on metal forums you'll find people talking about how cheap it is and how it's good for metal. However, if you have a lot of money to spend, you can't really go wrong with a Marshall JVM for versatility, as it has so many channels and settings that to say it's just versatile may be an understatement. However this may only be my opinion, as I am currently fangirling over the JVM. If you want a more simple setup, and versatile to you is a great clean channel, a great dirty channel, and if you crank the clean channel you'll get a wonderful crunchy breakup, the orange th100, or 30 if you don't want all that wattage, are great examples of amps that can pretty much do it all. There are many more examples of great versatile amps, so the best thing to do is look around and find one that you like.

I'm looking to start looking at buying a better amp for my setup. Currently I'm using a Fender FM212R and a Boss ME25 for all my play, and I don't really know a whole lot about amps as of yet. I enjoy playing a lot of heavier tones: Amon Amarth, Death, At the Gates and the like - but I also enjoy playing things from Keith Merrow and Loomis (obviously) as well as Symphony X or Kalmah. Is there any brand that would be most suited to my tastes than others? Sorry for Wall o' text but yeah.

You can find this kind of tone in latest Converge album or (sorry->) slipknot's "Devil in I" especially in the chorus (again sorry for even mentioning them). Now I run Orange Rockerverb mk1 with Mesa recto cab and with proper setting (in face very simmilar to yours in this video) I can get some of that, but I know that it's possible to make it even more like this. Fluff Im looking into an Orange amp, how many watts would I need to run a half stack With some high efficient speakers to go up against acoustic drums and a 150 watt ampeg bass amp In a small room, we play metal and meal drums with double bass is loud with little mutes so everything is just super loud especial the drums. Im thinking about 50 to 75watts/speaker on a half stack, Im gonna probley get a tube amp and I know they sound louder to the ear but Instead of the natural distortion Im going to use my pedals so I need clean headroom, it would be ok if a touch of natural distortion was added to top it off to get a nice tone, but anyways, how many watts would you recommend I needed?
@johnpatchymillar8367
@johnpatchymillar8367 9 жыл бұрын
+Guitar Guitar If you're looking at an Orange amp to play metal, the only real two options you have are the Rockerverb and Jim Root Signature. You shouldn't need more than a 30 watt tube amp for rehearsals. Anything more than that is plain and simple stupid. Ever heard a Vox AC30 at full tilt? You'll fry your ears off. I doubt the bassist would be running his amp at full tilt either. And if you're using your pedals to get the distortion for a general metal tone, you're doing it wrong. Do some research, check out Peavey, Marshall, Mesa, and what they sound like being boosted with a tube screamer, that's a general metal tone, not an Orange OR100 with a bunch of distortion pedals. Man, the feedback alone would blow your balls out your anus.

Well, the EVH 5150 iii 50 watt is exactly $1000 new, and it is one of the best amps I have ever heard for metal, plus it gets a pretty wide range of tones outside of metal. The mesa boogie mini rectifier is great too. It costs about $1000 new as well. (note that both of those are heads, so you would need a cabinet with them). You have so many options at this price range, and if you are willing to buy used, than that opens up the entire rectifier series. You actually have a ton of options at that price range, and I would recommend looking on Craigslist, guitarcenter.com, and Ebay.

Similar. OR50 would get you closer due to the power section. For preamp tone, the OR100 and the OR50 have the very same drive channel that is the OR15, plus a clean channel. Myself, I have an OR15, and it just doesn't quite have the power I require. It doesn't really do PURE clean either, but the drive is GODLIKE. Easy to understand why they ripped this sound out of the OR15, and used it as the drive channel in the OR50/100. Yes. IF you have the right cab/load-box, you can get quite close.

If you look for an Orange amp to play death metal, try a Dark Terror. That's what the guitarists from Anaal Nathrakh use live and it slays ;)

Is Ryan Bruce playing something except metal tunes? I think this amp is built for rock stuff...

Holy shit! 52 lbs. is insane. Pretty indistinguishable from 70 when you're lifting it.

I'm dedicated to marshalls when I played the orange rockerverb I wanted to switch over but the price was ridiculous

Orange amps are worth every penny and most of them excellent amps. Marshall has a million different models with few good ones. Big difference. It seems Marshall just throws amps out there and see what works. Orange only release solid products.
