Orban Rattles NATO, EU With Russia "Peace Mission", Putin Says Ceasefire If Ukraine Withdraws Troops

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban rattled EU and NATO allies by flying to Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 5. Putin said that he wanted to "discuss the nuances that have developed" over the conflict in Ukraine with Orban, who visited Kyiv earlier this week. Putin said he told Orban that Ukraine must abandon four regions in the east and south that Moscow claims as its own if Kyiv wants peace. Meanwhile, Orban in turn said he had realised "positions are far apart" between the two sides and many steps were needed to end the war.
