Now in my 70’s, have ridden all my life with many bikes. Currently a Giant Team Once Compact 98, but through recent illness purchased an Orbea Gain D40 which has greatly aided more challenging routes here in Ayrshire. Would highly recommend an Orbea

You absolutely can fully charge your battery, just not straight after a ride (i charge to around 50-60%, then fully charge the night before a big ride.

That's my understanding too. Basically it's a good idea to keep the battery in the range of 40-70% charge when the bike is in storage but no harm giving it a full charge immediately before a ride.

The Mahle system is fantastic got my gain m30i on Tuesday, until 12 months ago I was cycling around 2 to 300 miles a week, then my arthritis in right knee became unbearable, since then been lucky to manage 80 miles a week mainly commuting to work. But got my gain Tuesday already managed 195 miles and got another 50+ tomorrow. And after the 2nd day using it was the first time not had any pain in them at night, used to keep me awake. Still find it a struggle walking, but at least no pain cycling now, use it mainly in mode 1, very occasionally 2 or 3. Not many hills in the fens

That is great to hear. Using my motor effectively has helped me strengthen my knees to the point where I don’t get pain in bed or going up stairs as I did before.

Love the videos keep up the good work 👏. Your videos mean a lot to me as unfortunately for the last year ive been suffering with ME, I recently got the Trek Domane Plus and its enabled me to ride again, which has been life-changing. I am messaging because you mentioned getting a road bike; just to say if you got some new wheels and put some road tyres on your Orbea it would speed up your rides a lot, and you would basically have two bikes (at the time spent to swap the wheels over). Both my wife and I change wheels regularly, and it's a game changer. You might have already had that thought yourself, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Thanks for the video. I have had the same bike for a similar amount of time. I agree with everything from your review. I love the Gain, which like you has taken me to different paths and tracks

Congratulations on your recovery. And congrats on getting an e bike to aide in that recovery. About 3 years ago I had the opportunity to purchase an e bike at a steep discount through my work. Had not really thought about getting one, the price was too good to pass up. Bought a Cannondale road/gravel bike with a Bosch motor and 2 by drive train ( there was a choice for a 1 by). Like the Orbea, it rides really nice without the motor on, There are so many options available. Enjoy your videos, keep pedaling. Cheers 🌞🚴‍♀️🖖

Great channel and thanks for the excellent videos. I got the road version of the Gain recently and love it but I think I may put gravel tires on it next year. Does anyone know if there would be any issues with having a road groupset but using as a gravel bike?

I've had gravel tubeless tyres on my Gain D20 road bike for a while. No problems - you should be OK.

Great video, do you know if there’s enough room to fit a small saddle bag without covering the integrated rear light?

I can’t because I’m a short person so the seat post is low. I have to carry a tube gas tool and bike levers in my back pocket. I have the small bike.

So you push the button on the crossbar and the colours indicate what level of motor your using, how do you get it to using no power. I may have asked b4. I am getting myself so confused.

You cycle through the assist levels. White is 0% and then green, amber and red can be set in the app to be whatever you want, though from the factory they are 100w, 175 and 250w I've been told. From off you push the button once to get solid white to indicate the system is on but without assist. Push again for green, again for amber, a third time for red and again cycles back to white. Assist level is indicated by a flashing light, battery state of charge (white 100%, green 75-50%, amber 50-25%, red

If you want more performance why not just get slicker, narrower tires? This bike seems capable of it with the ride tires.

Hi there thanks for the very informative video of your one year on the Orbea, just one question do you use it when it’s raining.

Ride today 8 miles used 22% app now saying 26 miles left 78%charge. not great

Are you using the high assist level? That sounds correct. Because this system has such a small battery it is not meant to be used all the time but turned on for more challenging ride segments and then turned off again for riding on the flats. Otherwise you will end up with not more than 30-40 miles range.

@@b.griffin317 I only use the high level only when required on steep inclines. I fully charged the battery last night and the app is saying 36 miles. When new I could easily get around Keilder with plenty left not now. I know the cold weather has an effect so I have purchased a battery cover. I am going to keep the Gain for road or flatter tracks.
