Can you control the orbea e-bike power assist levels 1,2,3 from the wahoo……like my garmin 1030 does? I’d like to know if the buttons shift the e-bike power modes….the garmin touch screen is awful. Never works. So when you need to shift power mode on a climb it usually involves me furiously tapping my screen for about a minute before the touch screen then selects the power mode, just in time for the top of the climb. Useless garmin function Buttons rule….hence interested in wahoo..

I bought a Orbea Gain M30 Flat Bar Custom direct from Orbea in April 2021, for £4168, the best bike I have ever had, but this year in June the battery failed, I wrote to Orbea about this, and got a short letter back saying, its nothing to do with them, its down to Mahle, the electric part of the bike, now after 4 months and minus £640 the bike is back in use, I hope that I don’t have to do this every 3 years (Paul Bragg)

Hello sir, new subscriber here. Your videos are inspiring to follow. I hope you'll notice this comment of mine. As I plan to get this bike in the future. I see you cycle here in cold days which Mahle x35 battery shouldn't be ridden on extreme hot or cold. MAY I KNOW the coldest temp you've been out to ride, and how many years now is this bike with you? Also, do you think I can leave it in a cold available room in my workplace for 14hrs? Thats when temperature is 3-6° (January March ) Thanks in advance for your reply.

Ive had an Orbea Gain D40 for 2 years and I dont really understand the "I have to admit to turning on" and "guilty at passing a cyclist" etc. I bought the Orbea so I could continue to ride a bike round my (hilly) Peak District routes. I use the motor wherever and whenever I feel like it without a second of guilt - its why I bought it. Just ride it and use it with a clear conscious, we've nothing to prove to anybody 🙂

HI Darrell, I bought an e-bike last November, after struggling to keep up with the club rides, at 76, I thought it wasn't too early for me. It has saved my cycling and I now do longer rides and don't need to worry about suffering from fatigue. As it has saved me, I wanted to call it Jesus, as it is my savior, but my wife thought that was disrespectful, (neither of us follow any religion) so I ended up calling it Brian, as in the film, 'the life of Brian' . Hope all goes well with the operation, I am on the waiting list for the same. All the best, Clive

I also have a Gain, I've also laugh at the ebike knockers, these people have never been on an e-bike in their lives. I live in Spain with many mountains. My average ride is 85km with approx 2000m of climbing. These knockers don't mention that these bikes are nearly twice as heavy as a non-e-bike and switch off at 15 mph / 25km after that we are cycling a heavy bike. I ride with a retired (55) PE teacher/ex-pro rugby player and it's tough work to get near him on the flat but catch up on the hills. Good luck with your operation. (Ps. I am 64)

Thanks for your well wishes. I agree with your comments about e-bikes being heavier - which is more of a factor as I frequently leave the motor off.

Some of the recent mid-drive ebikes, including mine, have enough drag to make peddling without assist unenjoyable. I keep mine in ECO mode and bump the assist for hills as needed. I think some of the newest bikes, like yours, are very nimble with the motor completely off.

You should stick to the trainer or go for a stroll in the garden. One slide out on your dorky motorcycle and you're going to crack your rattly old man bones.
@Przemo-c5 ай бұрын
For me it depends on the route. If its flat and long I tend to keep assist off and pushing hard for speed assist wouldn't kick in anyway and it makes it feel harder to transition to above 25kph and knowing I have assist as a backup to help me get home makes me push harder. Now when it comes to hills. Short hills even hard I don't use assist but anything longer than 2-3 min of climb I can't keep ~18kph I will use assist usually to the max or automatic based on BPM. Still I have the same effort or even higher as it tends to make me go harder because I'm going faster. So my BPM is usually higher on climbs with assist but I'm going faster therefore effort is oddly more intense but significantly shorter. I sometimes attack hills more aggressively than I think I could knowing I have assist if I don't manage to do it. It's as much physical as psychological aid for me.

Nice to see you riding. Just wanted to share that I was using the handlebar mount for an Insta360, but no matter how tight I clamped it, it kept rotating. Eventually it started to dig into the bars. I'm now looking for other mount options. Also, have you tried using an air fryer? Don't need to use any cooking oil. I've cooked all sorts of things; chicken, steak, fish, pork. All of them with simple salt and pepper seasoning. Cook fast and easy to clean. Might be something to look into.
@omcycling4 ай бұрын
I have cut up some inner tube and put that between the clamp and the bars. Great for protecting the bars and preventing rotation.

There is no bullet proof conventional material for bikes, unless you just potter about, if you ride them hard enough and for long enough they all break. I have owned Reynolds 753, 653, 531c, Titanium and Aluminium in the early part of my cycling. All frames broke in time doing about 300 miles per week. I am not heavy but put out quite a lot of power, being able to win open CTTC events in the past. My latter bikes are all carbon a 1992 Dunlop Hotta Perimiter TT bike ( the same frame as ridden by Jason Queally to olympic track gold and Chris Newton for team Linda Mcartney ) A quite recent Trek Speed Concept, An older Cannondale Super six evo sram red and a recent Cannondale System six dura ace. All these Carbon Framed bikes have not broken. Obviously i am a carbon fan. They are lighter, mostly aero shaped tubes and obviously faster because of it and lighter. The super six evo being 6.8 kg but of older round tube design. Round tube frames can be made lighter because a circle is the strongest shape per weight of material, perfect for slower hill climbs.

E bikes are great for older people,comuting or sick people.But as a purist I will never buy one.Also the production of E bikes is not good for the environment.They have similar problems as electric cars when it comes to the environment.

I bought an e-bike in 2017 because I wanted to make scenic indoor cycling videos. I was too slow climbing the scenic Colorado mountains where I live to make decent videos. The e-bike solved the problem. What surprised me was all the other benefits I discovered. With the e-bike I was riding more and in more places. I was no longer intimidated by tough climbs, strong wind, or fast group rides. I actually got more fit riding with the e-bike as measured by the data from my Garmin Edge and heart rate monitor. The e-bike put me in control of my workouts, not the hills or wind. On a regular bike there were times when I would take on too big of a challenge with long climbs or strong headwinds. I would become exhausted miles from home and be forced to ride slowly which makes the ride that much longer. With an e-bike I can simply increase the level of assist. I suddenly go faster, cool off with the increased breeze, and break out of the doldrums with the exhilaration that comes with speed. My KZbin channel is Jerry's Scenic Cycling. My viewers are mainly male over 65. I have over 23,000 miles on my e-bike and I'm 80 years old.

In my daily travelings in the bike I see maybe 1 e-bike rider pedaling all the rest are coasting along with most of them on the sidewalk ignoring the bike lane. If it has a motor it’s a motor bike not a bicycle
@atmywitsend19845 ай бұрын
I see that also in the hilly city of Sheffield. But I got an ebike in 2016 and I love to see how many miles I can get between a charge. I have a 17 AH battery and my record is 354 miles before draining the battery. I never go on the footpath and pretty much always obey the rules of the road. I bought the bike as I do a very physically demanding job,and as I don't drive, some of my commutes can be in excess of 50 miles a day. I was shattered at the weekends as a result. Now I have the energy to ride my road bikes at the weekend and I actually feel fitter as a result. I agree there are a lot of lazy ebike riders that I see not even pedalling,but at least they are not sat indoors vegetating. Each to their own I say. I still prefer my normal bikes,but I feel very fortunate to have the choice,it is one of the few modern things that I actually love,and I am a cynical old git😅

I'm not against E-bikes, but my thoughts are if you're healthy then you don't need one. I'm now seeing more e-bikes on my local mountain bike trails than normal bikes; it can be a bit of an issue when the e-bikers are overtaking you on the uphills, then completely getting in the way and slowing you down on the downhills and the technical sections.. I'm getting on a bit, and if I needed one for medical reasons I'd get one, but until then, no way.

I have 5 traditional bikes (road, gravel, touring, etc) and 1 ebike. You don't have to be old or disabled to enjoy riding an ebike. My traditional (no motor) gravel bike is my favorite. But some days I just want to explore, so the ebike is good for that. And here's a fun fact. Many pro mountain bikers use an ebike for their zone 2 training rides ( beats an indoor trainer)
@atmywitsend19845 ай бұрын
@alethearobinson8132 you sound just like me. It is nice somedays to just have a lovely ride without all of the exertion. I usually still get home very sweaty though. I can't get out of the habit of pushing hard on those hills. I have 5 settings on mine and I rarely go beyond 2. I even switch it off entirely on some of the shorter climbs just to test myself. I used to be a negative ninny about them,but now I see them as a ride on a day that I probably would have took a day off. They are brilliant invention.❤

EBikes are not all ridden by lazy people. However, if you are reasonably fit and start riding an eBike you WILL LOSE FITNESS. 😢
