This is without a doubt the question I get asked the most about my e-bike, so in the name of pseudo science. I'm going to try and answer that question by performing a range test to see how far the Bosch Performance CX Motor can take me until the battery dies.

Damn that impressive. 34.4 miles on a basic mode..I’m kinda sad I didn’t save a little more and get an e-bike. I’m out of shape and hate uphills. All the trails in California where I’m at have an uphill to get where you wanna ride. I did recently get a nice enduro style bike last week (Scor 4060 lt) I guess I’ll just upgrade next year or so, maybe these style ebikes will get even better in 2023 or 2024

Thanks Josh. If you are lighter than me (220 lbs in full kit and with backpack), you'd get even further on a single charge, and with the new generation of bikes coming with even larger batteries, range is only set to increase. Things are definitely looking up for the future 😎

Great review, this looks like the ideal e bike. I’m looking for one for my wife early next year, and I plan on getting one the year after. I ride an Orbea Occam, great bikes and this looks like a brilliant piece of kit, the Bosch motor seems to be about the best you can get and that range is superb. Had no idea you could cover so much ground on a charge. Oh, and stunning area where you live! Cheers, and subscribed.

Thanks for the support and the subscribe. The Bosch motor is indeed fantastic, with a little bit of battery management, I’m sure you get even more range. I’m hoping to get my hands on some bikes with other motors in the coming year to do a comparison, so keep an eye out.

Nice one. I am planning to buy an EMTB and was considering the Orbea, alternatively the Focus SAM2. Scott & Cube have some nice bikes also, the problem is finding stock. I am also living in Switzerland, but now on the french speaking side, but nice to see those Swiss trails from your channel.

Have just done a test on a bosch system. The ride 34 miles along canal rising 600 ft then 15 in steep hills.Im 107 kg kitted and fit. In eco my forecast (using the remaining battery percentage) is 88 to 96 miles over 6 rides. I can ride on the flat just above support. My friend used it for the same ride flicking between modes. He is less fit and had not rode for 6 months, his projection was 55 miles total and he is 70kg. If your worrying over range just turn the battery off and take your time, you soon get used to the slightly slower pace, then even eco feels good when it starts steepening. Bikes an fs on standard tyres with 30 rear and 23 front (approx) Hope this helps, really enjoyed vid.....oh and with range extender i'd love to try and max it, but if it takes between 155 and 170 (prob 20 to 30 less as legs tire) to drain it that will be a long day...and a very sore bum!

Great vid mate! Just a couple of questions, did you recorded the ride entirely with emtb mode? I own an Orbea Wild since 2 months ago and I found the emtb mode delivers so much power and also consumes a lot more battery than combining eco and tour mode. I stick to eco and swich to tour mode in the steeper climbs , I usually end using eco 80% of the ride and tour 20%. If you have the chance, may be doing another test combining eco+tour would be a good idea.
@TrailTrackerSwitzerland
@TrailTrackerSwitzerland 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. i hope you're enjoying your Wild FS. I rode the whole video in tour mode, only using emtb when it was absolutely necessary for steep tech climbs, since I felt that is how people are mostly likely to use the bike. I'll be honest, I only ever use eco, if I think I'm going to run out of battery because I feel at that speed, I could just as easily ride my acoustic bike.
@yourmtblocal
@yourmtblocal 3 жыл бұрын
Great edit! Interesting stuff! I found emtb mode uses almost as much as turbo so on a full days ride I stick to eco and tour. Have you had the software upgrade yet?
@TrailTrackerSwitzerland
@TrailTrackerSwitzerland 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’ve had the upgrade that releases 75Nm. I’ll probably go for the 85Nm one this summer as well, even though I’m not convinced I need it. The only way I can see to save battery with emtb mode is to select a low gear and purposefully not put down too much power. So you may as well stick to tour, which provides plenty of assistance.
@yourmtblocal
@yourmtblocal 3 жыл бұрын
Oh I didn't realize there was two upgrades I must of had the 75nm upgrade cause I thought tour didn't pull as strong and turbo was just as strong but kickers in slower. Not sure I'm making it up though lol so won't be doing a video on it.

I think it’s probably the most reliable battery and motor combo at the moment, but I would encourage you to test ride bikes if at all possible to make sure you end up with something that really suits you. The one thing I would say about the Wild is that it is a monster truck that really comes alive when things get fast and chunky.

Hi im in the process of ordering the wild fs i am 170cm do you think the large woyld be ok as the s/m they do is smaller than my trail bike Merida 160 in medium i would like to hear what you would suggest. My merida 160 is a 27.5 none ebike and the wild fs will be my first 29r.
@TrailTrackerSwitzerland
@TrailTrackerSwitzerland 3 жыл бұрын
It’s hard for me to comment on the exact size that would fit you. But what I can say is that at 187cm, I fall right on the borderline between L and XL for most bikes. In the end I went for the XL Wild FS because the reach felt too short on the L. Ideally, you need to be able to at least sit on one before ordering though.

Well... pretty most of what you said about tires is just wrong... lower pressure gives you more grip... also less rolling resistance on trails. High pressure on MTB tires just the worst thing for rolling resistance.
@TrailTrackerSwitzerland
@TrailTrackerSwitzerland 3 жыл бұрын
I stand corrected! It seems that this is a very complicated topic with a large number of variables at play that mean minimal rolling resistance is all about finding a happy medium between too hard or too soft depending on the conditions you are riding in.
@mr.kneeslider
@mr.kneeslider 3 жыл бұрын
@@TrailTrackerSwitzerland To be honest, the rolling resistance on an e-bike is kind of... how cares to be honest, but the tire pressure plays a big part in grip, I run for example Tubeless with around 1.3 bar in the front, and 1.7 in the rear. By the way, wheres "home"
