The Pro-ject uses a sub platter with its belt drive to reduce vibration, should have gotten the points for the belt drive section.
@emailatomic
@emailatomic 2 жыл бұрын
What vibration are you really eliminating? The Pro-ject tables have a ten Db poorer rumble score than even the cheapest old Technics Direct Drive with or without quartz lock. With quartz lock guarantee of perfect speed without a fad acrylic platter. And then why Acrylic which generates static over glass which is heavier still and costs the same in the turntable market, cleans far easier, doesn't scratch. Is more resistant to transfering vibration. Whatever they are pitching is just a pitch. they can tell you why they did it but if it doesn't result in reducing numbers its just words.

I sure hope so, i have always favored vintage tables and the first time i used an Orbit i was SHOCKED it was one of the CHEAPEST feeling mechanism second the crosely mech even those crappy 90's turntables they threw in with all in one stereos had better built quality and precision, i would even recommend an ATLP60 over the ORBIT

I hope you don't think that because its carbon fiber. I have a $1400 carbon fiber accoustic guitar. Why is it carbon fiber? The part for the neck is not the sexy woven carbon fiber. Its more of a CF plastic for rigidity . The sexy woven stuff like is on this tonearm provides excellent resonance. Do you a resonant product on a tonearm? What's wrong with stainless steel? When you buy the even higher end CF tonearm they put more steel back in. I find it hilarious. The tonearm while the most sophisticated element on a record player makes little difference in performance when adding exotic materials. And then nobody questions the cheap plastic cartridge shell's contribution to vibration on your most critical component. Or the stylus, which is smaller than the thickness of the D string on your guitar is the most susceptible item to noise from your music. But we don't talk about Bruno. If you want to eliminate all vibration buy some nice cables and take the turntable out of the room.

Jarrett, glad to see you back. I do appreciate what you’re trying to do for those who are getting into the vinyl community. That being said, I have to take a little bit of an exception to this video. While you do cover the basics, there are a few things that you leave out that are vital when choosing a turntable. These include the quality of the sub platter/bearing, wow and flutter, rumble (I.e. - how audible is the noise floor), and (quite importantly) an assessment of the SOUND QUALITY of each turntable. (A 20-30 second audio clip from each would be beneficial here. This may not change one’s assessment of either table (I’ve not heard the Orbit myself), but it would help to give the viewer/prospective buyer a more complete sense of the turntable’s “bang for the buck”.

Hey, about the Lp60 vs Lp120. So you said that you prefer the Lp120 because it is all manual, while the lp60 is automatic. But owning a lp60 myself, I can say that if you want to drop the needle yourself you can! The only thing is automatic every time is the needle going back to the starting position. I do prefer the lp60 because you have the option of automatic or manual.

Some records are actually still being produced for 78 RPM, just in regular vinyl not shellac. I recently picked up from a record store down the road in Charlotte NC, a Robert Johnson 78 record that was a special record store day release April 13th, 2019. Pretty interesting!

Happy to see you upload! Question: Can you skip tracks on a vinyl? Is there a way to know where tracks begin so you can choose where to start?
@theoutubecelebrity
@theoutubecelebrity 3 жыл бұрын
If you look closely you can see blank spaces between the songs on the record, you can drop the stylus in those spaces to skip ahead (although some people would say that this could damage the stylus or record if not done correctly)
@emailatomic

The best think you could acquire would be a linear track turntable like a Technics SLQ6. Besides beating all these expensive fad belt drive turntables in almost every spec that matters. Linear track plays the records the way they were cut...perfectly tangent at all points in the record. It will play the tracks in any order you want and won't play the tracks of the songs you don't like. Unlike any standard tonearm a linear track turntable can expertly navigate even warped records. It hits each track with laser precision because it uses a laser to find the tracks. These tables quickly scan the entire record and find all the tracks and light up an LED for each track found. What is better? Pushing some buttons and sitting down in your chair to hear all your music the way you want to play it without getting up. Or trying to drop your needle accurately yourself on a 1 /16 inch groove, missing two or three times then rushing back to your chair hoping to get there in time before it starts.. All these people are trying to do with these Flintsone drive belt tables is extract micro improvements which maybe someone like yourself who is in their teens or earlytwenties could theoretically hear. But the specs on these tables are superior to these new tables. It sounds like the best of all worlds to me.
@DeadKoby
@DeadKoby 3 жыл бұрын
Neither of the tables are junk.......but the arm on the Carbon needs more credit. Unless you have both side by side, and have taken them apart, it negates some of the points. Things like MEASURING Wow and Flutter is something that REALLY should be done here.

@emailatomic
@emailatomic 2 жыл бұрын
I applaud checking the numbers. But you guys are splitting hairs over subtleties which make no difference. If you want perfect resistance to transfered vibration take the turntable out of the room. It eliminates all issues with plinth platter tonarm etc. ALL. You talk wow and flutter but all these belt drive tables from Pro-ject, Fluance etc have ten times the wow and flutter of a cheap Technics direct drive whether it has quartz lock or not. Fluance has an apologetic trying to convince you their .5 wow and flutter might be better than a direct drive table that has .025. These tables also have 10 percent lower rumble numbers, which is the noise transferred from all sources contained on the table. Where you are right is none of these tables are junk but they don't even hold up in specs to tables made decades back. I have a $1400 dollar 100 percent carbon fiber guitar. The sexy woven stuff which is on the carbon tonarm is like what they put on the soundboard of my guitar because Carbon fiber resonates beautifully . Meaning it transfers the vibrations from the strings and resonates it out to the audience. Why do you want carbon fiber. Because its strong? Seven inches of steel combatting the micro movements of a needle is not only strong but rigid. Woven carbon fiber is flexible . What benefit do you get from carbon fiber? And like I say if your goal is zero vibration. Get the turntable out of the room.

Either of these turntables can plug into a computer. Just use a Y cable with RCA jacks on one side and a 3.5mm plug on the other. Plug the RCAs into the pre-amp and the 3.5mm int the audio input on the computer and you are ready to go. This arrangement is how I digitize and store my LPs in iTunes.

Just a thought though; how easy is it to change between speeds on both tables? Knowing from my friends experience, he said he can’t really listen to his 7”s because the belt on his orbits doesn’t get enough grip on the smaller pulley of 45rpm. As for the preamps available for both the U-turn and the Project; is one of higher quality than the other? Just asking because I do own a Project preamp for my tecnics turn table. And then I wouldn’t have handed out any points for not being automatic or not having the 7” adapter.

I upgraded to the Debut Carbon last fall when it was still $400, and I've been kicking myself for not doing it sooner (like when it was going for $350). My only complaint is that you have to lift the platter and manually adjust the belt between 33 and 45, but that's really only a minot inconvenience.

I have two turntables with acrylic platters. Uturn Orbit Custom and a Project Essential III Beatles (Sgt Peppers) Edition. I can tell you. If you have a record that is not flat, that is dished or warped, it most likely will have problems especially on the Uturn where the platter is smoother. If the record is warped or dished, the record has a tendency to slip while spinning if you place it on the acrylic platter directly. It does happen on both but more often on the Uturn as again, the acrylic platter is smoother. I recommend always use a mat.

Hi, there is a Pro-Jet with Hi-Res encoding for computer. I am really interested BUT first I don't know why there is an M2 Ortofon on the cartridge? 'cause M2 is 20 Hz till 20 KHz and Hi-Res starts at 24 bits from 5 Hz till 192 KHz or 96 KHz, to me you have loss with M2 Ortofon cartridge? Second whether RCA cables are analogic, why should I have a turntable with Hi-Res. Maybe I just have to have a converter DAC in my computer to transform analogic signals to digital Hi-Res signals?

Question: I noticed that my lp60x is very quiet. For example, when I plug my labtop into the same speaker that I use for my record player, its at least 5-10 times louder than my record player at full volume. Is it just because of the sound volume of the record player or is there something wrong with my setup?

There should be a switch on the back of your table that has "Line" and "Phono" options. It sounds like your table is in Phono mode, which means the built in preamp isn't turned on. Flip the switch to "Line" and you should get more volume. Hope this helps!

why did you count the tone arm in the count for the cartridge? they are 2 separate things! makes it a draw but if you add in the upgrade to an acrylic platter the carbon wins! seeing as you added the upgrade option for a phono pre-amp! and took a point off the project for being more expensive too! this is a very strange showdown!

Both looks like a fancy choping board, LP-120 or any copy of SL1200 for me. Also with LP120 Is so easy chance from 33.3 to 45 RPM, just pushing a boton.

Honestly, you should check out the Esprit It comes with an acrylic platter, and 33, 45 78 rpm, not to mention it still has a carbon tone arm and is cheaper.

The heavier a turntable is, the better the sound quality !?!?! 🧐 Does Rega turntables ring a bell?
@aarsonbet
@aarsonbet 3 жыл бұрын
Bingo. It’s about how the turntable isolates itself from vibration and resonance that is key.

There are different approaches, but Rega also played at the wrong speeds on their tables for the longest time, so I think people completely overstate their quality level. This is what happens when people give subjective impressions without the ability to accurately remember sound for comparison (which is just a human flaw in general).

@@jimsregaturntableshifijukebox ? I comment regularly and don't put out content on this account, I'm not sure how that's related to the topic at hand, though. I'm in the market for a new turntable and just been researching like crazy. The chase is on...

@@Cujobob wasn't being negative, Bud. 😉 Just checked your channel to see if you had any hifi items and saw it had no other comments or videos posted. I've heard a quite a few different makes and models of turntables but, for the prices I got my old Rega Planner 3s for and their tweak ability / sound, I think they are a bargain. Happy turntable hunting. Stay safe. Mij 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 ☺

Note that the debut carbon in the us comes with a sumiko rainier cartridge which has a better upgrade path and is arguably a better cartridge than the 2m red
