This is a very great review of the device. As a blind person with no vision at all, I’m really questioning my decision if I want to purchase the Orcam in future since it is a very expensive device. Now I am aware that it won’t help me to be completely independent, but this device could be somewhat useful to help me accomplish some tasks such as reading recipes, reading texts without me having to open my computer to scan document and especially, it can help me around by identifying products in my kitchen. Now I am not saying that visually impaired individuals are not independent, there are other efficient solutions that we use to perform our daily tasks, but The evolution of technology and this device could be very helpful. :)

Hi Sam, I have the MyEye2. I really love my device as it has given me independence. I no longer have to wait for my family to read documents that are not in braille to me which means I can deal with my own afairs. This is why I feel this technology is very important and that more needs to be done to make it more affordable. I would love to upgrade to the new version, but I probably won't be able to afford it. given the fact that you have done several reviews of the product, I am surprised that Orcam haven't given you your own device or that they haven't tried to recruit you as an Orcam trainer which I think you would be good at.

That's great. I was initially blown away thinking the little device attached to the glasses did all the work independently but it is still impressive and looks very useful for blind people. The facial recognition might be useful for people who can see but have face blindness. Depending on a smart phone makes the video/image processing far easier and should make the device less expensive.
@theblindlife3 жыл бұрын
You may have gotten the wrong idea from the video. The smart phone app is just a companion app. You don’t actually need it for the device, it’s just extra. The little device on the glasses does everything by itself.

Love this amazing piece of technology. There’s only one complaint from me and it is that I wish it was more normal when it comes to looks. Growing up, I was always bullied for needing special equipment for my vision. And my best friend’s younger sister is also blind but she’s in middle school on her way to high school soon. I wouldn’t want her going through the same thing I had to go through just because we need help more than others. If they were to make it smaller and able to be built into the actual glasses frame, that would be even more better. Maybe if they made it so that you would need to control it from your phone that would be better because it would give them that capability to make it smaller because it has less components inside of that item.

Hello your channel is terrific and I'm so glad I found it. I just forwarded it to my friend who is blind, and will be watching your videos. I would like to make a couple recommendations to help the vision impaired out when they're watching your videos. If you could describe such as I'm standing outside with my glasses looking out XXX my friend will be able to understand better where you're at, but you're still doing an incredible job. Secondly I don't know if you've thought about taking your same video and just making it high contrast for the blind in black and white with only object recognition so when they watch your video they can see more things happening. You would be the first on KZbin to load those type of videos for vision impaired, such as when you say subscribe black and white across the whole screen nothing else flashes up important messages which might help them that we don't need to see. Thank you again for all the hard work, it's a nice channel to find.

My husband has RP Usher Syndrome, a degenerative eye disease with nerve deafness. He depends on lip reading, which is impossible now due to vision loss, so the pitch of voice is very important vs volume. Most talking products don’t give this information out regarding selecting voice or adjustments in bass & treble, could you add that into your information or presentations. It’s a god send for us, I couldn’t tell you how many products we purchased only to be disappointed because he can’t understand what the voice says. This product looks exciting.

I would love to watch this video because I am visually impaired and very curious how this device could help me read actual books again but that PAIN CAUSING FLASH someone thought was a good idea makes it so I cannot watch it. Had to turn it off 30 seconds in after it started the eye pain and headaches that my photophobia causes. I hope no epileptic watches this and has a grand mal siezure. Let me know if you have a version without the constant flashing and I'll watch it.
@theblindlife3 жыл бұрын
All right, I think you’re exaggerating it a little bit. Very fast rapid flashing of lights has been known to cause seizures in a very small number of people. The flash transition that I use in my videos here and there isn’t enough to do any damage like that. I apologize if you’re extra sensitive to it. I have a few at the beginning of this video but don’t do it too often after that. You could always just listen to the video, I do a pretty good job of audio describing everything.

I've been curious about OrCam MyEye for quite a while since the first OrCam video of yours I saw, and since your most recent one I've been rewatching your others. One thing that concerns me is that I've seen from other users' videos where the OrCam MyEye Pro actually performs much worse than the Seeing AI app. I know the MyEye Pro has extra features, but how do you feel the features that it and Seeing AI both have compare? All of these devices are outrageously expensive but obviously, that’s Not Sam’s fault, his job is to bring us the latest tech and how it can help us and he does a great job. I’m told the reason for the cost is the small profit margins and number of potential consumers. What is needed is legislation information and ways to make these more affordable or have payment plans, rental agreements. As visually disabled/ blind people have an unemployment rate of about %70, these are priced out of the range of people who need it the most. I’m not sure if Sam has done a video about this ( please link below if you have) but it would be a worthy topic.
