The danger that lurks in the area of the Strait is the attack of killer whales, which has led to the sinking of several sailboats. The aggressive behavior of killer whales towards sailboats is due to the defense of their territory or possibly due to playful behaviour. The scientific community is investigating the phenomenon and there is a need to find solutions to guarantee the safety of boats and coexistence with orcas in danger of extinction. The possibility of drawing up a hatchery map is also mentioned to prevent recreational boats from passing through these areas and protect the hatchlings and marine coexistence.

Nivel "0". Las orcas habitan en casi todos los mares. Es un único grupo, que recorre desde Cádiz a norte de Galicia, una de las zonas del mundo con más cantidad y variedad de cetáceos y ballenas, principales presas de las orcas. La orca Gladys enseña a las crías a atacar el timón de los veleros, lo más parecido a la aleta caudal de una ballena, como haría con ballenas para mostrarles la técnica. No es por el barco, es por el aprendizaje. Las orcas son muy inteligentes y tienen cultura, sus crías perfeccionan estas técnicas a lo largo de varios años, que varían según subfamilias de orcas y presas. Esta familia ha encontrado este truco para aprender. Esta técnica no sirve para atunes, demasiado rápidos. Para ahuyentarlas son muy eficientes unas pequeñas sonoboyas que ya se usan en redes que emiten sonidos ultrasónicos para nosotros y molestos para ellas o que imitan a cachalotes, que son una amenaza para las orcas. Grabaciones de guarretón también podrían servir, son una amenaza para cualquier oído sensible. Detener el barco también puede ayudar pues el propósito se cumple.
