Orchard Harvest - GAA Football Review 2002

From the start we knew it was going to be different. Cork upended Kerry in Munster only to face a Tipperary side that didn't know its place. Sligo proved they weren't a one hit wonder by claiming the scalp of a fancied Tyrone side. And in the capital hordes of the blue-clad army reclaimed Croke Park and Leinster for the Dubs.
But for all this the summer belonged to only one county, Armagh, a team thought by many to be worn out, stirred themselves to life and took vengeance for 77' and 53' in the space of a month. Having put out Dublin in a cliffhanger and facing a Kerry that was unbackable for Sam, Joe Kernan's men did-played a grit and hunger rarely seen before at headquarters. Relive the finish that will live forever in Armagh's memory, outlasting, outfighting and outscoring the Kingdom to bring Sam to the Orchard County for the first time.

Football so full of excitement and upsets back then. Dublin just soooooo far ahead of everyone now.

Although the Dubs did not win the All-Ireland that year (or even reach the Final), as a Boys in Blue fan, I felt quite content at the time that they had won the Leinster Final after a gap of 7 years. It was akin to seeing the glass Half Full rather than half empty.
