It's amazing what OMD are capable of. I used to think Depeche Mode and/or Erasure were the synth standard bearers, but truly it's OMD. They just get better and better, while still somehow making you feel young again & hiding away in your room with your cassette player. Simply brilliant body of work.

Turns out OMD were a massive influence on Depeche and Erasure. Vince Clarke in fact got into electronic music because he heard OMD's early material.

Some of the older OMD stuff that still strikes me as some their most beautiful, unique pieces would not have been 'singles' or 'A-sides'. This one is just lovely and pure. Thank God they are only trying to sound like OMD.

Agreee..., this definitely should've been an extended play; classic OMD, best song of the album. Yeah, that uptempo part of the song should've been a lot longer; it fades out way too quickly. Hopefully someone here can do a cover or mix of this track...., it deserves it!!

@Rich Lopez - i agree completely that this track should be longer - it is hands-down my favorite track on this OMD album (and this new OMD album is my 2nd to LEAST favorite album - i simply don't care for it much). perhaps we'll get a longer/extended version, and extended versions for OMD have always been a labor of love and usually are brilliantly done.

I love "Art Eats Art". Stephen Moreno on September 1 2017. Was my first time in my life that I don't have the new OMD CD or LP in my hand. Best Buy told me that I had to order it. I don't order anything. Lucky "The Punishment Of Luxury"full LP was on you Tube. Their are a bunch of songs that are out there that are not on disc.For example 'Heroes' , 'VCR' , " The New Dark Age", and others. We need The B sides Part 2.

Be fair, their 1986 album was pretty weak and dated, and some songs struggled from his 1991-1996 solo stage, without Paul, who did a more interesting solo work with the short-lived Listening Pool group, even if he did delegate songs to others which he should have sung himself, but he's not into that. Plus since their reformation Paul doesn't seem to sing any songs or get them released as singles. Not good. I do generally listen to all the songs from their 1986 album, but 'Southern' was probably their worst moment-not a song at all. And only half the album is truly strong OMD, and the single version of 'Shame' a lot better and sharper than the vague album one, and it's their album I play least, and all my fave acts got the drop on them in the year '86 which was hands down the best year for quality and quantity from top 80s artists. They just slipped up, but they kill the bafflingly overloved and absurdly feted Depeche Mode every day, as do many acts-always have, always will.

Takes me back to when I saw OMD in the late 70's before they were famous. What an amazing era to be a teen. People were so laid back and genuinely happy, great bars and clubs in Sheffield and a city centre sprawling with shops, lots of jobs, no sitting in traffic for hours and an NHS to be proud of. What on earth happened to the gridlocked over populated to bursting point UK and the depressing state it is in now.

Yup. Unfortunately I came of age in the end times, with zero-hour contracts, bumper-to-bumper commutes, and nights in "shoulda-seen-it-back-then" clubs pretending that Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys and Snow Patrol are on par with the leading bands of the 60s, 70s, 80s or even 90s. OMD are that one band who are still killing it live and making really good records, so they at least give me a taste of what my older relatives grew up with.

I'm hoping they've got something planned for their 40th year which isn't far away. I love their 80s stuff but there's hardly a track from their 3 revival albums I wouldn't listen to over and over.

Space Rock I think it's better then when synth was the thing =80's. I was very happy & impressed when I happened to by chance see the art on the cover. Not really. The record has two 6+ minute tracks, and besides the two experimental interludes, nothing is shorter than 3 minutes. The whole thing clocks in at a perfectly reasonable 42 minutes.

I get that same vibe of similarity. reminds me of 'no mans land' a bit. But that's okay for me. I liked English Electric. some great tracks. but 'no mans land' is the one I like best from that whole project !

I'm sorry to say but this new album isn't very good, five good tracks and the rest are like B side I'll only ever play once. I love the band, and love ALL the other albums going back to the beginning and OMD are hands down one of the best live acts I've ever seen (I'm old and there's been a lot of them) but this is lazy and some of the lyrics are childish. A REALLY disappointing album. I'd rather have waited another two years for an album that was better than this offering. In short if I'd heard it first I wouldn't have bought it (I have the special edition) and I haven't gone to any of the live dates this tour because of it.
