My husband was listening while I was watching your video and when you said, "In my book...," he said, "She has a book?! Why didn't you tell me? You would be getting it for Christmas!" Haha, something to consider for the future, Danny. :)

I've just started collecting and growing orchids this year and I have found your videos to be very helpful. I like the idea of you having an easy to care for orchid series. I myself have limited space and I also live in cooler climate. I was wondering if you were going to continue this series that you could do an episode on small, intermediate to cool growing orchids.

Yes! I'm very happy to see you discuss Brassavolas! I had a b. "little stars" for 5 years...it was super hardy. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get it to re-bloom since I've always lived in cooler homes here in the Northeastern US. It finally died after the cats continued to knock it over. :( I can't say it's easy to find here either.

HI Dani! I really enjoy coming to your channel everyday to watch and learn from your old videos as well as your new & current videos. When I first started my orchid hobby this year I knew nothing. My first orchid I have I was actually going to repot my orchid in "regular potting soil". YIKES!!! I never did that and it's thanks to finding your channel. I am so happy I found your channel and I just wanted to take the time to say thank you. I go to orchid shows in my city of Florida and now today I have a collection of 18 orchids right now and I know there will be more to come in the future. ;-) My most favorite orchid that I own is my Encyclia Pyriformis Cuban Species she has a strong vanilla fragrance that is amazing!

Yay Danny! Your Brassavola nodosa bloomed! Wow she’s so lovely 😍 I have a Bl Yellow Bird (nodosa and cattleya offspring) and find it super easy to care for too. You inspired me to look for the nodosa. I love those leaf-bulbs too, they’re just so aesthetic (maybe coz they’re easier to keep compact/organized than some Cattleyas haha). Lovely vid, I always enjoy seeing your Den spectabile 😎

Hi Dani, i am always cautious with over watering my phals, as i have a few that have lost their roots to what i imagine is due to over watering. Even though i don't water them too frequently to avoid this it still happens. Some of my phals roots keep getting white hairy/fluffy mould growing on them and the roots keep dying off. It happens even after one watering on some! And i have a few that have almost no roots so i have them in an ICU and mould keeps reappearing, how am i supposed to keep the sick orchids in a humid environment (with damp microfibre strips in an empty pot) to encourage root growth when it just ends up mouldy? Any advice? Many thanks!

I like this idea. It's a great education for us newbies. I watch every one of your videos and learn something each day. Thank you! I've had wonderful success with my mini-phals with bark mixes from rePotme.com and their Feed Me fertilizer. . . . weakly weekly with the 4th week off and just flush with fresh water. Reblooming has been wonderful!

Hi Danny. This is the weekend and is time for thoughts and a long story. Perhaps would be a good addition to your easy to grow series as I would add the good old complex hybrid grocery store bought phal that most of us have, that's grown in industrial houses throughout the world in controlled environment and how to keep them alive and thriving which I think isn't hard after the initial acclimating period. I think many times these phals are in shock being in drafty stores, transportation and overall a different environment than they had originally grow from. Further, upon simple repot seems to lead to demise from root rot no matter how fresh or strong the original had been. Perhaps put together a "how to" when taking that gorgeous plant home and perhaps how not to kill it which I have done too many times now. I have taken one guy, transplanted it into fresh spagnum moss and had the whole root system rot, and into the stem and lost the guy. Tranfering directly into leca has resulted the same if not more frequently. I'm beginning to see that these phals needs an acclimation period to get past that rotting stage, a habit seen with cattleyas where they'd toss their roots. I'm finding that if you bare root them with a daily hourly soak, for a month or two before converting to leca and self watering with microfiber the transition is more accepted. I haven't tried moss though I had had failures going from spent moss to fresh moss directly too. My mistake was being over confident and not watching the plant til losing root, stem and whole plant. Anyways I'm sure you addressing these issues and putting another fresh tutorial would benefit many new owners, and those poor guys coming out of the factories.

Hi Thomas, I actually don't have issues with new Phals, but last week someone else commented about this issue. I responded with my guesses, but I am thinking now to start a community project and purposely try and recreate the issue. Otherwise I can only speculate what people do differently than me, so stay tuned for that ;)

@@MissOrchidGirl Danny. That would be a great idea. Perhaps for all of us to have inputs from different environment and conditions dealing with the same (almost) plant and you drawing conclusions once or twice a month from analysis from our inputs. Hmmm. Project Phalaenopsis. ...to be continued... how to keep them darn things alive !!! Sorry I was never good at naming, should ask my daughter.

#MissOrchidGirl Wow! Love that Dendrobium spectabile! My one and only Dendrobium bigibbum has its top leaves on it's cane that just finished blooming. The other smaller, older canes still have their leaves. It is ok? I do have a brand new growth on the cane that has the yellow leaves.

I have this one question haunting me, How on earth were the first nobile hybrids prepared like was a nobile crossed with some other species or were two different varieties of nobiles crossed. Does anyone know? I even search through Yamamoto dendrobiums but sadly no . I did not find anny article. 😭 And i am really bad with B. nodosas, i have killed two very big sized nodosas, i give up! The roots just hate everything .

My nodosa is a weed. I have it in a plastic pot with a lot of holes in the sides and coarse bark. And I double pot that in a decorative pot. I soak it maybe once a week, and give the top of the pot a few spritzes of water occasionally otherwise. I see them mounted a lot, and they seem to really like being underwatered and neglected.

@@allbackiceland Well the story goes-In march i recieved a black rhizome rot ridden nodosa, all i could save is a 6 cane division from the 70 cane plant. Then i asked for a replacement and the website did so. Now, it also is all shrivelled up and itty bitty, so i made 4 divisions of it, each in a different setup, and the mounted form seems to do the best. Fingers crossed the nodosa survives. It is one of my most fav orchid as i am a fragrant plant collector, but the lady of the night fails in my hands 😡.. Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a Nobile species so I guess there are more and they crossed those to get the hybrids we buy in the supemarket (but you can cross an orchid with any other orchid, even from different genera) and maybe mount the Nodosa, I mount most difficult rooters.

@@YnseSchaap yess a mounted division is doing much much better. And TBH i havent heard of any nobile varieties. Maybe there are, but i live in it's natural habitat and many people have specimens of them, even i do, but sadly i did not see any variety.

There must be more species to get the standard Nobile maybe a crosses with smaller dendrobiums but that is the technical part and I haven't absorbed enough info on that 😁 In my experience Nobiles do great on mounts all but one are mounted
