I was raised in South Florida, seen many Florida Native Species growing on trees. They love Cypress and Oak the best, but can be found on other hardwoods trees as well. But I never found any Orchids growing on Pine Trees before. Must be a reason for that, and why I won't use pine bark as a medium. Actually the fibrous Coconut Husk Chips are my favorite media. It's more absorbent, allows more air flow and last up to 5yrs before you have to repot. Some folks will take a whole coconut half way into the middle and straight down from the top. Remove the nut casing from the middle, drill a hole to hang it from and a couple of holes in the bottom for drainage. Makes a great natural orchid pot. Cork looks great for mounts but shy away from pine.

WOW thank you for the super detailed comment. It's pretty hard to find hardwood in central Europe or whole coconuts LOL but I will try to source something more appropriate. These guys are doing well so far, as each little plant has a new growth. Fingers crossed and thanks again :)

Oh wow poor things have been through a lot. I'm glad they're still alive. Thanks for posting an update. I've been wondering about them. I hope I can get some next year.

This might sound odd, but in nature, the plants have their growing tip pointed towards the mount so the new roots directly hit the host tree. How amazing is that?
@Orchidomania4 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right! I did mount some that way because I also read that seems to maximize attachment & growth 😉

Hello. I left a comment on your other video. You're doing really well with yours and unless something changes, you shouldn't loose any, and they can grow from about an inch across to palm size in just a year or two. Anyway, I could really use some help as I've had some chronic problems with mine. I have some very specific questions. Oh, and I'd like to know how far your fan is and if it runs all the time. Thanks so much.

How are your orchids doing? I got some last year but so far only two have survived and they are tiny. I had some set backs. I hope yours are getting bigger.
