so the most telling thing I can see with the plants is the difference in the size of the leaves. One would expect slightly smaller leaves to develop during the winter, just because of the shorter days, but the lengths have actually increased which is fantastic (except for now they each take up more space😉).

Hi Michael! Look how they've taken off! And yes, the new leaves are much larger (thanks for noticing that!) I'm wondering if I'll need to expand my sunroom in a few years so they'll have plenty of space to grow...lol! Thanks again for sharing your expertise...it made a big difference in my Vandas! (And I'm relieved! haha)

...a great show Amy, Im quiet these days, but still love to watch your informative shows.. Your collection continues to grow and thrive beautifully...….they all have a great color and the blooms speak volumes about their care. This is a great example of how some orchids take more food, and different ratios of Nitrogen to grow properly and to bloom....One of the hardest things for home orchid growers to do is diagnose nutrient issues......Deficiencies in mobile nutrients, like N-P-K ...will show in older or lower leaves......Deficiencies in immobile nutrient's, like Calcium…...usually appear in newer growths, or upper leaves.....being observant, and seeing the reaction the plant has to different nutrient's, is not easy and takes time to gain experience...in this instance the lower leaves were having issues and you upped the N....and the yellow leaves turned green again.....correct diagnosis and the results are proof...One of the best things about your channel is that you truly want to help others grow, you love to teach and your subscribers are proof of it......Spring is here already and the new growing season has started...….I wish the best growing season for 2019………......Rick L.

Hi Rick! It's always so nice to hear from you...and gain your wisdom and insight into growing. Thanks for the comment, it's a great reminder to everyone about where the different deficiencies take place so that there are guidelines to keep in mind if something happens. (Like 3 mysterious yellowing bottom leaves on your Vanda!) I noticed that you have a new blooms video that I'm looking forward to viewing...I always learn when I visit your channel! :) I hope you and Jan are doing well, and know that both of you are in my prayers! Thanks always for your support and encouragment and happy growing, my friend! Amy & the TN orchid clan :)

I love love love how specific you always are with your fertilizer. It is so hard to find this type of information. Today I learned I'm starving my Vandas-- 600 tds? I haven't come close! I will be correcting that! (Ive only kept Vandas about a year, so it's new to me. I have other orchids, but Vandas are new) Thanks you so much for your videos. I have learned so much from you and love how you present everything (and your enthusiasm and care). Sometimes I feel a bit like I'm being sold to, or someone buys something and does a care video on something that is new to them and they don't have experience with yet (But you don't learn that until 6 months later in a different video...after the plant dies...haha). You never come off as selling, but your love for these plants is so clear! I can always count on you to give reliable, experienced information and when you are trying something new, you make sure everyone knows. Thank you so much. My Vandas (I only have 3...and 2 were clearances....) Will be better for it!

Hi Lara! Thank you so much for your kind words...your comment made my day! My goal is for everyone to have success with their orchids and to be able to enjoy them. Please keep me posted on your Vandas...I believe you're going to be amazed when you increase your fertilizer dose just like I was! :) Happy growing! :)

Wooooow, Amy, just wow. I am so excited to try this. Of all the orchids, it is the vandas that struggle in my care....maybe a tossup between them and the deciduous dendrobiums, actually. Brad of Brad's greenhouse once said he regularly feeds up to 1,000 ppm!! but I was scared to go that high....I have 4 vanda seedlings....would you think I could feed the young ones like this also? I could do a little expirament....thank you for sharing, Amy!! Cara
@OrchidWhisperer5 жыл бұрын
Hi Cara! I don't have any Vanda seedlings or I'd be happy to advise...I think you're doing the right thing by doing an experiment on just one seedling. (Just go up in small increments.) Happy growing! :) Amy

Hi Amy - Happy Mother's Day! We miss you and I pray that you're ok. I hope you will let us know soon how you've been. My daughters gave me a Beautiful Vanda in a vase today for Mother's Day! By the time you did the above video, I had already killed the Vanda that I had for a couple of years. I'm ready to start over with this gorgeous Vanda so I've written down your Spring Formula. Is this what I should use while it's in full bloom, or only if it is having a nitrogen deficiency = yellow leaves? It does have a few unhealthy looking leaves, but absolutely beautiful blooms! Again, I hope all is well with you and your family. Tammy in N Al.

Please provide a summer update on the vandas. I just bought vandas from Motes and trying to figure out the correct next. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Hi Amy, your Vandas look wonderful. I just got my first one about a week ago and she has a bloom of deep purple flowers on it. When I first got her home she was in a tiny basket inside a plastic pot with some big bark and look very dehydrated. I cleaned her all up and free her from the basket. Unfortunately, I had to trim off most of her rotted roots. Now she only has a few small roots and some really big ones that are really hard. I've been soaking her with Cal Mag, Sea Weed, and Epson salt every day for only an hour or two to acclimate her. So far, she hasn't lost any leaves or flowers yet and looking a little greener. Should I keep doing this a longer before I soak her like you do?

Hi Amy - the first thing is are you ok? I haven't seen anything from you since early spring. I wanted to ask you about one of my vanda's. I recently started soaking it in a bucket with the calmag. 48 hours on and 5 days off. I do not water to the basket. The second time I did this my bottom leaves turned dark at the stem and fell off. I have lost 5 leaves so far. Not sure if fertilizer is the answer. I started doing his because of vacation. Please help! Thank you so much!
@sleepgas5 жыл бұрын
Hi Miss Amy can you clarify please the dry days... For example fertilized during the weekend for the 48 hours... And then Monday is a dry day is that post rinse? And then Tuesday you put the Cal mag for 24 hours? And then Wednesday is a dry day? Thank you I hope you're doing well we haven't heard from you for a while... Be blessed

What direction is your window facing?
@Sunshine-tg7lx5 жыл бұрын
Hi, I just got some Vandas from Motes Orchids. I started soaking them in 350 ppm of better grow and cal mag combo for the past 2 weeks for 15 mins per day. It looks like the roots were drying out or root burn. I’m not sure if I am doing something wrong. Should I soak them longer and increase the ppm to 600-650 ppm. Mine are growing in south facing window. I moved them from my west facing window because some brown stops formed on the edges of the Vandas, I just assumed it was because too much string light. Consequently, I moved it to south facing window and the stopping appears to have stopped. I’m new to Vandas and fertilizing. I’m trying to learn and do my best. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Be blessed
