The definite article in question 3 refers to the word 'The', which is the definite article in the English language

5:53 Quite so, and I am willing him to see St Matthew's Road, because that is all I have seen so far. Edit: And it was something with "the" literally there to see! Oh well, too devious on my part 😁

Just to further on this for trivia knowledge. An and A are "indefinite articles" in English.

@@TheOwlman Same here. Didn't spot The Springhill Farm, but just like some of the other dodgy questions in this series, St MatTHEw's Road should be correct as well.

@@DrDaveW The problem is that you never know just how cryptic they are being! I definitely assumed 'carries' was referring to it being hidden inside and not just plonked on the front for all to see. I can see how people would get frustrated with this quiz series 😆

In the English language the definite article is the word “the”. The indefinite article is the word “a”.

Dan, makes a mistake in map-reading and gets a wrong answer...comes back this week, admits he has made a mistake, has looked at the problem and worked out WHY he was wrong, learns from his error..... Flerfers, make a mistake with a map, refuse to believe there is ANY chance they are wrong, spend the next 50 years trying to 'prove' that they are correct!

The Springheel Farm is the answer because "The" is the definite article, i.e., only one, it's a technical description and part of English Grammar

Well, i speak 4 languages fluently and English is my second one but i honestly had no idea the word "the" was called that 😂 Also, please do not create a separate channel for these treasure huns. Please just ignore entitled people who ask creators to have multiple specific channels. If they dont like these treasure hunts, they know is only on Sundays and they can skip them.

I’m looking forward to next week. I know the Iron Bridge very well. If you have never visited it is well worth it. A magnificent piece of early Industrial Revolution architecture. There are interactive exhibits at the visitor centre too.

I had to look up what "the definite article" meant because, by the time I went to school, they had stopped teaching grammar. I don't know if the same applies to English schools. I mean, it's not like grammar is important or anything, it's only the structure of language (heavy sarcasm).

When I do map -work with my Australian Air Force Cadets - I teach 'em if you're lost, (can't find it/stuff it up), then either: a) - The map's wrong b) - The compas is wrong, or c0 - You're wrong 100 % - it's ALWAYS 'C'....... Ha, ha, ha.............

You're better at astronomy than grammar, Dan! The definite article just the word "the". The indefinite article is "a" or "an". Many languages don't use articles at all, but they're deemed essential in English, at least for all countable nouns and even for some uncountable ones. In most cases I don't think they really are essential. I have given you explanation. He played ball back to bowler. You understood those without "an" and two "the"s, didn't you? I couldn't see a "the" (ha!) on the map, though. There must be one somewhere, but I have old eyes. Ah, got it, The Springhill Farm. You weren't far enough down at the time. The "garden of England" is Kent, so the cathedral must be Canterbury.
@DuncanMcCurdie

There is a reason for definite and indefinite articles. There is a difference between, “I have given you an explanation” and “I have given you the explanation”.

17:27 That "carries the definite article" foxed me - I assumed that they were looking for something with "the" concealed inside it, and my choice was St Matthew's... I didn't realise that they were being so damned literal... mind you, I didn't see anything that just had a _the_ on the front anyway!

I completely agree. Otherwise they should say 'Do you know,' or 'Can you guess.' Perhaps, instead, the answer "No" should be acceptable.
