They are not singing Compline, this is the office of Lauds. They are singing the Canticum from the Book of Daniel in which all creation is asked to bless the Lord, the Benedicite. I love Carthusian chant. Where did you get this from? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

In which Carthusian house is this recording done? Do you have additional footage and/or recording? This is one of the most beautiful chant I've ever heard. Thank you!

@@flaviusmacrobius1110 There were deleted scenes on the DVD shown as extras after the film had finished. I believe it might be from there.

bravo Marzolino! Compline according to the RB has every day the same psalms : nr.4,90,133 (134 according to the Hebrew Bible). The Carthusians singing is montone and puts me to sleep.
that has the Benedicite? Then it cannot be Compline. It is Matins, or perhaps Lauds.

The Carthusians do not recite Compline in choir. This looks like the night office of vigils

mulg1 The Carthusians (Fathers) pray Lauds right after Matins at around 2:30 to 3am. On Sundays and Solemnities, the converse and donate brothers pray Lauds as well.

@@flaviusmacrobius1110 Do you know do they wake up for that and after go sleep again or do they stay awake until Prime and be awake until Compline?
@flaviusmacrobius11103 жыл бұрын
@@Luka-xx5ve They wake up at 12am, then they go to the Church at 12:15am for vigils (Matins), and the fathers stay in the Church afterward for Lauds. The brothers go back to their cells to sleep after Matins. Except on Sundays and Solemnities, the brothers will join the Fathers for Lauds. They sleep after Lauds, then they wake up again at 6:00am to 6:30am for private prayer, lectio Divina , and they head to church for Mass. Prime prayer is said after Mass usually, privately (alone). On Sundays and Solemnities, they pray all offices in the Church together. Normally, they only pray Matins, Lauds and Vespers together. This is according to my memory of when I lived with the Carthusians at Grande Chartreuse and at the Transfiguration in Vermont, USA.
