I know that not everyone feels that they need something like an SPR, but there's something to be said about having something setup to make sure that you can touch anything between 0 and 600 meters. This makes it too easy.

My favourite rifle is a 6mm ARC that's built around a 16" barrel. Regarding bipods, I find that when you need one, you need one, but they are a serious pain in the ass when you don't. I have a Valhalla, and it has a little male-end adapter on the handguard. When I need a bipod, I take it off my pack and slip it on, quick and quiet. When I don't, because it's getting hung up on everything as I walk with it slung, or I don't want so much weight out front because I'm shooting offhand, it's stuck in the water bottle pouch on the side of my pack. That's a pretty hot-looking build, though. Nicely done.

Bringing some other weights to test. Also bringing my 14.5” BCM MK2. Just put a PA GLX 1-10 LPVO on top. Hopefully it’s worth double the price of their SLX lineup.

Nice looking piece. Looking into doing an SPR myself, so I am here looking for ideas. I have an 18" 556 build that was put together with minimum possible weight that I think would serve as an excellent foundation. I have a couple of PA ACSS scopes in different power/sizes as well as a couple of HS ACSS dot type optics. Thinking of going with a heavier PRS-type shoulder device. I have them on 6.5 and 308 rifles. Seems someone makes a lighter version, but I haven't looked into that yet. Enjoyable presentation. I'll definitely save it to refer back to. Cheers!

I also prefer the primary arms acss scopes for my dmr’s. But I got rid of my 18” 5.56 and 18” 6.5 Grendel dmr and just went with a 16” 5.56 with a lpvo and a 16” 6.5 Grendel with the 4-14x primary arms hud dmr reticle as my dmr. I loved the thought of an 18” or maybe even a 20” 5.56 dmr until I built one and realized yea it’ll get out there to 600-650yds and even farther really but if there is any kind of wind you better be well practiced if you plan on hitting your target. Which I can do on a flat range but still at those distances the 223/5.56 is hitting like a 22 magnum essentially. I found the 6.5 Grendel to do much better and with 90-123gn bullets it hits much harder. I mostly run 105gn sgk and 107gn smk. I started with an 18” but found there really isn’t much loss dropping to a 16”. I feel a 16” Grendel is easily a 600-700yd rifle and I usually keep the 5.56 work under 400yds is why I went with an lpvo on it. Just gotta bite the bullet and stock up on 6.5 Grendel ammo is really the only negative I see. I’ve been shooting the Grendel for almost a decade now so I have plenty of ammo stocked up plus tons of reloading components. But definitely if I wasn’t able to go with a 6.5 Grendel for a dmr/spr it would be an 18-20” 5.56 with 75/77 grain ammo. Or the 73gn eld is actually my preferred longer range 5.56 bullet of choice

@@OreGear I know it seems hard to believe. I have no incentive to lie. To be the most consistent, I use black hills Mk262. I use an 18" DD MK12 with a surefire RC2 suppressor. I use the applied ballistics app and a NF ATACR 4-16 with the Tremor 3 reticle. Depending on temperature, I have to dial 14-14.6 mils to hit a full size IPSC steel at 1000y. I don't think the round would kill anything that far tho lol. To be fair, when I shoot m193, I can only hit 20% of the time lol. M855 might be slightly better. I know the pros and cons of each, leaning 16 or 20, feel like 18 is stuck in the middle, and when i consider 16 or 20, the 20 inch starts to feel quite a bit longer than i want.. and a 16" precision oriented barrel would likely do 99% of what id need.

I've got an 18" and my buddy as a 16", both in 5.56. The difference in our DOPE is negligible. We've both shot them past 1100 yards with good results. The rifle length gas is nice on the 18", but if you're gonna run a can the 16" is nice to keep the length down. More important than length though is getting a good quality barrel. I'd much rather have an accurate 12.5" barrel than a 20" barrel with poor accuracy, regardless of the range I'm shooting. It doesn't matter what the bullet is doing at the target if you can't hit it.

True Life: My SPR Wants to be a GPR, I want a DMR
@KevinWood44
@KevinWood44 25 күн бұрын
Why would someone want an SPR? To me this is a silly question. I think an SPR should nearly EVERYONES first AR 15!!! From a SHTF standpoint: You will NOT be clearing rooms like a Navy SEAL or in Call of Duty...you will want to keep people FAR away from family, home, food and ammo. If later you want to get a 13.9 or 10.5" fine, have a ball. But I think an SPR should be your first rifle. No question *Optic:* The Primary Arms GLX 2-10 and 3-18, Athlon Helos, Vortex Strike Eagle and a few others seem to be the popular scopes for SPR's but I think the Vortex Razor LHT 4-22x weighing only 21oz is criminally underrated in this genre. You will likely run an offset or piggy back red dot so having 4-22x rather than 12x, 16x or 18x is HUGE!! Give it a look. I am not Vortex lover but their razor line is legit!!

If you’re shooting 700 meters, why would you limit yourself to a 5.56/.223? Even if you are using 77gr sierra’s, why not just bump up to a more capable .308 and extend your range/performance? Yes they are heavier, and you get to carry less rounds, but if you’re building a “precision” designated marksman type rifle, don’t you want to actually be able to reach out farther than the guy next to you with a standard m4?

@@OreGear that's what they said about the 1 to 8. Then the 1 to 10. It took some trial and error to get them right. Attibal has a 1 to 12 that is stupid expensive with a not so great reticle. It's a matter of time before the other manufacturers jump on that. 1 to 15 is probably three to five years away.

@OreGear i did a comparisons on my channel between Primary Arms PLX 1 to 8 ($1500 japanese glass ) and their SLX 1 to 10 ( $450 chinese glass). The test was to read the letters on cargo containers at about 1000 yds. Basic eye chart test. I found more magnification wins.

And the reticle is far inferior and the field of view and eye box is less forgiving than a 2.5-10

I don't understand putting a white light on a rifle that is basically set up for long range shots. It's like putting a weapon light on a tank cannon. The projectile will far outrange the limitations of the the light. They're at cross purposes.

The Blazer LEP light (which it looks like he has) can throw much further than traditional LED heads. Also, and more importantly, bad guys usually come out at night. So it's wise to always have a white light on any defensive firearm.

The thumbnail literally says, "Own everything out to 600 Meters"...as in 0-600. So literally any light would be appropriate on this type of rifle...but especially one like this with very good throw.

I don't understand in 2024 why people still run fixed stock lowers.... And those KE Arms plastic lowers are WACK. I get some of these decisions are personal preference, just seems like poor choices all together given all the good gear out there now. To each there own.
