Tim Hofmeister$250 put back per hour for maintenance, 150 for insurance, 100 for the pilot and 50 for the ground crew fuel 26 gallons an hour a $5.00 a gallon $130. $680.00 is what has to be made, they are most likely charging around $800.00 to 900 per hour. He is hauling 8 or so trees every load that takes less than 30 seconds. That's almost 100 trees an hour. I think that it is the most efficient way to harvest trees in a farm that is that big, no trucks or ATVs tearing up the ground, only one worker hooking up the trees and one pilot, 2 -3 truck drivers. It's also less invasive than having a bunch of guys dragging trees around and possibly damaging the other trees that are there that you want to sell next year.

@@codyking4848 It's a magnetic connection. There is a guy on the grounds who grabs the end of the line and connects the two. The pilot then turns on the magnet. Then he flies it to the unloading zone and released the magnetic connection. That makes it drop. That's why he can go so fast. It's really crazy being there watching them do this! There are also guys cutting the trees and others putting them in bunches with a nylon wrap with the magnet on the end. They can cut about 650 to 700 trees in a day! The vast majority of fuel for a helicopter is just to keep it aloft. In fact, helicopters are more efficient when flying rather than hovering, but that may not apply to quick starts and stops like this. A BIG part of helicopter costs is the required maintenance after every so many hours of flight. Even if it takes a little more fuel, the quicker you get the job done, the fewer hours you put on the aircraft.
@Jake0Miller11 жыл бұрын
Ryan Keat Nope nope nope. A helicopter has to burn a ton of fuel just to stay in the air. Moving is only a small surcharge after you're already in the air.

Its all about speed in order to make the cost of operating the helicopter worth it! Break neck pace. Now that said, the pilot is operating that poor Bell 206B Jet Ranger right to its limit. An over torque or loss of tail rotor effectiveness are risks with anything other than perfect pilot skills. Also mechanical failure from the hook release mechanism would be disastrous. But its nice to see a helicopter flown to such perfection and make short work of something laborious and complex like harvesting Christmas trees in the Oregon forest!
