I would never take anyone to that spot!!! That is a serious secret and I can't believe it isn't wall to wall rods! It's OK to snare up and walk back, as an old man I discovered that trick. Both of my reels are only 5000s too. I was taught to do a 15-minute soak but kept coming up with an empty bait box and no crabs. 5 minutes is my norm these days. Great video and a lot of fun watching!!

@@BackFishing I went a week or two ago and gave your snares a try. At first I thought the loops may be a bit small but I was wrong, Now I think mine may be too big. All I got were undersize though. I'm trying to get a friend to go to my favorite beach as soon as we can go. Looking for a good wave and tide. Storm fronts moving in right now.

Hale, it's 9 months later and I'm watching it again! It's a favorite video. I was going Oh Man, Hale is over limit!! When you did the count it hit me, you guys in Oregon have a higher limit! We went out of Monterey Bay last week fishing. The weather has been bad and it looked like a doable day. Really rough and the fishing was hard. We both got our limit of rock fish and I managed to bring in a small Ling. I was pooped but happy! Gene

1 hour before low tide is best to reach deeper channel but this day I went 4 hours before so you can still catch them but require further casting.

What a day! This is, of course, a testament to your amazing crab snares! I was there on November 1st just south of this beach (I think?) I lost three snares trying to catch rock crab off the jetty 😓 I had better go back in your KZbin archives and learn to make them using your tutorials! I was supposed to be back in the Tillamook area the same day you were (11/11) there but my whole family got hit with covid just before that and we were out of commission for nearly 2 weeks. I'll be steering clear of the coast this coming weekend as it is free fishing day... Hopefully there will be some good crabbing for me next week! I can't believe the size of some of those Dungeness! So great! Nice work.

Nice action and lots of crabs! Cool. The Beefstick rod what is the ounce rating for casting? Try to find a pole that can cast a lot of weight and your casting 11 ounces, so what exact rod may I ask you're using?
@BackFishing
@BackFishing Жыл бұрын
I am casting 8-10 oz on that Beefstick 10' rod. Rating is 1-6 oz but still holds. My other pole is heavier goes up to 10 oz. which is older Mastercraft 12' rod. I don't have high end equipment for crabsnaring but still gets the job done. GL

Just look at shallow bays and estuaries at low tide in the Tillamook area. They can be found in this manner. If your referring to crab snaring, they can be found anywhere with sandy bottoms along the beach or jetties. GL

Hello Halli , sorry to ask this question, though it is June 2023. Have you ever done Shad fishing at the Cascade Locks??/ I am from Minnesota and find it hard going down rocks etc for access to water due to handicap state and bad Hips Thank you
@BackFishing
@BackFishing Жыл бұрын
I have never gone to the Locks to fish for shad. I am sure you can fish there. I know they fish for salmon there. This weekend is free fishing weekend in WA June 10th-11th. Fishing at the west end of North dam access road has rocks but you might have might be able to navigate them. Look at google maps satellite view towards Hamilton boat ramp. Otherwise Cascade locks is your best bet. Good luck.

@@BackFishing hahaaa... I figured out exactly where you were later after a few of your quick camera pans... logical choice to be at the mouth there, ive just never tried it there. So a similar experience for me in a similar setting, but without all the waves, just sand and calm waters, was in astoria 2 years ago, when there were expanding out all the beach recreation access areas with massive construction going on... it was at the further access point before deading... it was either point "C" or "D"(which ever was the furthest out)...it was so peaceful there with no tides really and ships just going back and forth in the distance...and just monster crabs on snares... and water level is like netarts at slack, so that you can just even walk out with a regular trap and drop it there too at waist high... i can share this because im leaving the country next year and i know you wont reveal it.

I pour about 8 - 10 oz on my snares and use 50lb-60lb braid. Less stretch on braid vs mono and can cast further.
