one of my first crabbing trip in a long time. we got our limits in just under 2 hours. biggest crab weighed in at 1.9#. we used chicken for bait - overall a great crabbing on the Oregon coast.

guys you are so lucky to be able to go out to do this stuff like catching the little critters. I been watching this video and thinking back on my life. Im 68 years old and growing up I didnt have any idea of all the things a person could do. we were pretty poor but had a lot of love. I had six brothers. I was the only girl and the middle child. dont take life for granted or it will pass you by. if you cook this stuff. hey eat one for me...lol..its fun watching you catch these. they got some mean pinches...

Used to Live In Oregon. Wonderful State. This vid makes me think to go there and for $19 get a 1 day license. Great catch. 10 years ago I got them live there for 2.50 a Lb. I did what they told me. 1/2 cup salt per gallon of water. Bring to boil throw in wait for second boil and count 15 min. I added crab boil spice. Fresh catch beats store bought any day.

I was stationed in North Bend many years ago and took my kids to a pier to catch crab. They enjoyed it so much except they would never handle the bait which were fish heads from fish I used to catch in the Rogue River. Man, that male you handled was massive! The purple one was beautiful. We caught the smaller ones and had to measure them. There seemed to be a game warden standing at the end of the pier every time we went. Great video, guys! Good catch, too!

i DONT usually comment, but im on the east coast (georgia) and we have the blue crabs like maryland- the way you are handling these crabs is astounding. if we pull a crab trap here you have to be really careful because they are agitated and agressive -its almost hard to get them in the bucket these crabs on the other hand you are touching them all over with no threat

My sister lived in San Francisco several years, i visited her one summer when i was 16. We tied chicken wings on a string and just dropped them in the water. We'd pull a crab up everytime like every few minutes. It was such fun but eating them was even better. I'd been landlocked all my life and that was my first taste of seafood. I was instantly addicted.

That's awesome! I catch Blue Crab here on trotlines, in topless "snatch" traps, big commercial pots (similar to your pot but maybe twice the size) tie chicken pieces on strings with a sinker of of docks and boats let it sit for ten minutes or so then slowly pull it in while waiting with a metal crab net. We also wade through grass beds with a net and scoop up softshells and hardshells that hide in the grasses. Best run on a 1000' trotline was a little over a bushel of jumbos on chicken necks which were .19 cents per pound then.

I've been crabbing for many many years and if you put the bait on the bottom the crabs won't be on top, they will be more IN the trap! Take the advice from an old crabber!
@52Rambler
@52Rambler 4 жыл бұрын
And I have commercially fished Dungeness for many many years in B.C Canada and can tell you it makes NO difference if bait is top or bottom of a trap.. Have seen riders either way on traps and just as many crab in either as well. LoL, actually it's better for bait to be closer to the top of a trap, less chance of sand fleas, hermit crab, sea snail/slugs ect getting to the bait. An old crabber eh,, what is that, a old crabber fishing in the harbour from a punt with a trap or two is why you know so much.

Great video guys. Congrats on a great day. Just FYI if you keep crabs in water, they will die more quickly than if you just leave them in a bucket. They breathe all of the oxygen out of the water and end up suffocating. Also, I've found that if they are in water, they have a tendency to fight and rip each others' legs off. They don't fight as much in a bucket, especially if you lay them upside down.

Awesome guys. You make the viewer feel like we are present. Dungeness crab are awesome. Some "big boys"! Here in the East coast New York area catching the "Swimmer" Blue Claw, Calico ( Lady crab), Atlantic Rock Crabs, or Johnah Crab (Atlantic cousin of Dungeness) rarely seen Florida Stone Crab known for (excellent claws) Dungeness crab has been now encountered in the Atlantic off Massachusetts, either directly or indirectly introduced. We will see what comes of this. Many are concerned that if Dungeness crab take hold they will dominate and destroy the other native Crabs. I learned if you submerge the caught Crabs in ocean water in a cooker, bucket they will eventually die. I learned that by putting them in buckets with no water but Sea weed layered on the bottom and top of each other is the best way to keep them longest alive. Outstanding videos. Please be safe and keep up the good work.

PK, what do you do with that much crab? of course, the obvious thing is to cook and eat it fresh, but what do you find yourself doing when you're tired of eating crab, or have run out of friends/relatives to give them to? I can only hope to have that kind of problem on my hands, but it would be interesting to know what others do with fresh crab you can't eat (for now). Steam, then freeze? Or, cook and keep the meat fridgerated? I heard blue crab can stay alive in the fridge for 3 days if kept cool with saltwater. A day of rest in between chowing down fresh crab would be something. Thanks for another inspiring video!

Really miss dungeness crab that size, from san francisco area! If there is any shipped here to Albuquerque it's usually small! Hard to find good seafood here!

Hi PK I've been following you for a long time and I love your videos. I think you are doing it very well, so you can learn from it and at the same time you are fun in a good way. Sorry I'm writing and asking, but I want to know where you buy the different colored tie that you use to tie your stuff on your catch pots when you go crabbing.Your friends from Denmark

@@borntorazehell777 North Bend is on the north side of Coos Bay, (largest bay in Oregon). You are probably thinking of Bend, OR which is on the east side of the state and more than 100 miles from the coast.
