I am an avid rock collector but never actually knew what I was collecting except beach agates. Now I'm binge watching tons of rochhounding videos and learning what to look for. I live in Central Oregon, but I work in the Umpqua Valley, so it's not too far from the Rogue River Valley.

Is there any possible chance you would let me know where this amazing spot is? I'm in Southern Oregon, on the coast in brookings. We get lots of beautiful agates, jasper and pet wood here, but definitely not as abundant as what you got there. Id love to make a trip there sometime

I walk my dog almost daily at the Illinois River Forks State park. I have picked up a large piece of either petrified wood or Argillite. There is tons of Argillite but I haven't found a piece that resembles what appears to be petrified wood. It is a slab about 12 pounds it looks like an outer bark section of what must have been a large tree. Still not sure what it is. Regardless I've collected five 5-gallon buckets worth of rocks so far. I don't have enough knowledge to know if anything is particularly worthwhile, but I pick up the pieces that stand out as being dramatically different if I like them.

This video is in Eagle Point. If you went to degarmo and didnt find anything, you did it wrong. That place has all kinds of cool stuff. The porcelain jasper is tough to find, but the further away from the road you get, the higher you chances. Best of luck, let me know if I can help ya more

Can you do anything with a big chunk of petrified wood? I have some in my yard that’s just slowly falling apart into smaller and smaller pieces. Is it worth anything or should I try to preserve it?
@TheRogueRockhound
@TheRogueRockhound 12 күн бұрын
Youre not going to preserve it (for the most part) If you want to see if its "worth saving" give it a cut. That will tell you if the corruption is all the way through By the sounds of it, it should remain a yard rock Thanks for watching!!
