Starting in 2025, nope. The only manual available at that time will be in the GLI. The GTI and R will be DSG only. That's odd because VW sells as many GTIs and Rs with manuals as quickly as they can build them. But I think it has to do with emissions standards because it's easier to control the engine and emissions with a computer instead of a left foot and right arm controlling the engine.

I think the touch-screen in the cabin is obnoxious and intrusive. The least they could've done is make it retractable. R badging on the door looks a bit odd. No brembo 4-pots? Cant imagine what msrp will be on a Black Edition once this arrives stateside. Over 60k 😅🤦🏻 Im not entirely sold on it but I know a lot are based on the comments. Ill stick with my 7.5R

Piano black trim right in your face around the instruments, not ideal. Stuck on infotainment screen looks absolutely obnoxious, smh. IMHO the mk7.5 was the last VW with a decent interior. I'll stick with my '04 R32 regardless. Maybe get into a Golf Alltrack and 3.6L VR6 swap it.

touch screen button on steering wheel again??? I thought we had got past this vw it's a nightmare buttons > touchscreen especally when you are doing 150mph+ and go for the volume to blast your fav song at the best bit and stupid touchscreen skips the song and the fact with a twist like the mk7 had you never need to look when throwing it round corners to blast that music and now you have to look at the console killing 5 elderly women crossing a road then speed away and pray nobody seen the plate! just give me buttons back!

Iv had my black mk7 gti 3 door for a little over 6 years now, its finally paid off lol i was hoping to keep it at least 7 years just cuz it sounds nicer and i like most golf owners are weird like that. So this yewr i been starting to look at what's out there as possible contenders for what could be my next car. Honestly, the mk8 just wasn't on the list. It just wasn't doing it for me, especially the gti. From the exterior to the (apparently according to every car reviewer in the world), the worst infotainment system is ever put in a motor vehicle. So iv been looking outside the v dubs catalog into and onto greener pastors, or so i thought. New cars across the board are just not doing it for me. A few years ago, i was super excited bout all the new cool cars that were coming out. But then they came out, and either they were way too... far too ridiculousover priced, or just not all that interesting as a fun performance vehicle. The bronco, for example, was the first suv to get me excited about any7that wasn't a sports car in years, and then it came out, and uhhh, welll yea its just not interesting to me. It's boring looking, actually. And i already made a promise myself to never give Ford another dollar of my money after my womderfull not at all disappointing experience owning a 2013 Mustang (sarcasm implied). Anyways there were a hwndfull of other csrs like the Toyota gr corolla which is stupid expensive with awfull cheap econcar interior and it just doesnt look all that good, definitely not as cool looking as the gr yaris that we Americans never got. A few othe cwrs i dont need to mention u get the point its been pretty disappointing to me as far as the mid range priced performance vehicle segment goes, so recently i been looking at used vehicles, specifically German cars cuss my gti has ruined me for cheap and inferior Japanese interiors. Been looking at audi tt and s3 but i mean if that's the case, then what even the point of getting rid of my gti lol which iv alreaddy stupidity put in a complete wastefull wmount of my money into upgrades, and while it is a riot to drive, its a little demon bunny bottle rocket 😈 . it does seem rather pointless now to trade it in for something so similar to it as it was when stock, such as an s3 besides the all wheel drive. Also, I was looking at the bmw m240i as a possible candidate. I am at this point set on getting something with all wheel drive, iv had front and rear wheel drives cars but never all wheel drive and as we get a proper winter here and im a bit older now i just dont really wana deal with the two wheel drive struggles in the snow anymore, i never used to care, especially whenni was younger and i had rear wheel drive cars, i didnt care bout getting stuck or crab walking down the road or being completely f#cked on hills lol. Hate it now love it later is what i would tell myself waiting for spring to arrive, but im an old man now and i want to actually be abe to reliably assertively get to ware it is im trying wanting and needing to be lol. Wow, have i gone on far too long with this comment that nobody but maybe 1 person will actually read. All i actually wanted to say is this particular golf r has caught my eye and definitely got my attention as a possible candidate. I mean it still doeant seem to me to make much sence to give up my mk7 gti which in its form as a 3 door is exceptionally rare here in north America (mostly because know one here wants anything smaller then a crossover and so especially not a 3 door hatch lol let alone a small car but add the the inconvenience and unpracticle nature of not having 4 doors,especially in a hatch, a vehicle thats literally only reasoning for its existence is its practicality and oh boy they're i go off the beated path to rant station again) what im trying to say is, this balck edition looks good. Reall nice lookjng car. It looks real good, a rewlly nice looking vehthst i may possibly be interested in entertaining the possibility of purchasing wnd taking ownership of one day in very near futer, maybe. So can anyone confirm this wil be available in north America?

Yes compared to mk8 but I think mk8.5 looks way better interior wise, newer and up to date. Don't get me wrong though mk7.5 has still a solid interior but it lacks of ambient lightning around the infotainment system, both doors on back seats, faster and more responsive software, sound isolation not so good, knocking/cracking sound from the door panels etc.

Just look at the state of the paint work on this! OK, a machine polish would correct it, but you'd think VW would get their press car properly sorted before being let lose. All my cars go straight to the detailers with the factory stickers on them. Full detail and ceramic protection... black is easily the worst colour to go for if you don't like spending money maintaining it.

Well I don't like the seats or the blue trim (I prefer earth tones tan or even light gray. But I twill give them credit for the black brake calipers. Although I still wish they were Brembos, especially since it competes with Honda Civic R that does come with them. Hanging on to that piano black for dear life. The haptic are enough to say pass on the car. No pop out cup holders in the rear. No red light/reflectors on the lower doors
