Thank you Nilaus for your blueprints! Your Factorio master class series was perfect for introducing my 12 year old to this genre of game and she now loves it. They helped her launch her first rocket and now she has more confidence in trying her own builds. We haven't started Dyson yet, but we watch all of the videos and are excited to play it next.

Thank you Nilaus for your tireless work on games and DSP in particular. I've played the game using your blueprints through several versions as it evolved. It never detracted from the experience - on the contrary it gave me time to focus on the important and iteresting parts of the game. Thank you!

Agreed Nilaus. Blueprints are just tools. It’s up to the player to determine how much they are used. I, myself, feel like I have a better understanding of the game, and perhaps some basic engineering principles because of your work. Thank you!

Even with help from the blueprints, its still fun to put them together and troubleshoot . You still have to put in a good amount of time building spaghetti and getting the technology tree going, even before using any of the handy science blueprints.

The toolbox is also happiness because you can study it and get inspired to make your own tools to suit your needs or even occasionally make improvements. Also if you don't have the planetary miner you can make your own ghetto planetary miner blueprint with a preset logistics station setup for mining and then just slap down a couple of miners and connect.

Using your Build tips I've used your New Logistics HUB to start a Minimal resource Save only just made my way to Warp tech then finally at 40hours I got Logistics Warpers online, Snag was my Iron Ore being fed in was so low it took forever to Ship out my first Ship of Warpers but now my Forge World is online and i'm free to go tap all the Ore viens i'm also only building inside a single 1/20th slice per factory build. (that is 120 Factories in just the Summer Belt of each planet.) my goal is to have a factory making every single base material so i can eventually scale up like you have. but yeah that Iron rush on Minimal resources is a mean monster.

Hi Nilaus! You mentioned that you wanted to avoid using Pilers/Stackers, but why is that? Are there stability, or performance issues? Or is it something else? I unlocked them yesterday and after changing my Hub/Mall thing to have those in my inputs, the game crashed shortly after. Was thinking if it was a coincidence or not since you avoided those in this video too.

Carpenter reinventing saws and hammers... exactly right. I make my own designs. But I make them when I feel the enjoyment of making them. Sometimes I don't want to design something and just want to accomplish something. I made my first nuclear reactor hundreds of hours into Factorio and I enjoyed it. I made my first self designed oil processing hundreds of hours into Factorio and I enjoyed it. But while learning a game... sometimes you don't want to spend time designing everything from scratch. Sometimes you've designed enough and you just want to "do shit". My next Factorio design will be a scalable mall because I do not like any that I've found. They don't suit me. They suit the players who made them and many of their fans and that's great. But it's time for me to make my own because I really just think I'm tired of managing with everyone else's.

About that "blueprints are cheating" and similar sentiments: not everyone likes to plan each part of their factory. I don't think I'm alone when I say that I prefer to focus on overall large scale and progression (so deciding where and when to build what, not how to build it). Then once I'm comfortable enough with the game and have a general idea of how I should plan out my whole base-building experience, I'll slowly move away from each module blueprints (I'll try to figure out my own way of producing each item, if only for my more or less unique aesthethics). Thanks to that I wasn't completely lost when I started my Krastorio 2 playthrough, since I couldn't really find ready blueprints for Nilaus' city blocks style factories with combination of Transport Drones (it works really similar to logistic drones and vessels in DSP, though you do have to connect each site with road). Unless you play competetively (PvP in Factorio or speedruns, etc.) there is no harm in using blueprints - let people enjoy the games how they want and move on if you don't like using them (also not everyone has time to spend on designing everything from scratch just look how many iterations of Polar HUBs Nilaus made for DSP alone).
@usurpinesusanti31492 жыл бұрын
I like that. But i am way off to even use those Blueprints yet. I have to look for early game bps first to get on that level. But nice to see what all can be done in the future.

I don’t think your blueprints ruin the game by any means because they don’t solve everything. I’m playing through for the first time heavily using your blueprints but there’s some things that aren’t covered like automating the drones/vessels, or the level 2/3 belts/sorters before you have ils. These gaps allow me to solve problems, and your blueprints teach me about the game

What do you do when a blueprint overlaps with your mines? Do you remove the mine and hide the ores and paste the blueprint, or do you pick another location for your blueprint? It is almost impossible to find a location that won't have a mine.

Very late, but if I understand correctly he goes out of his way to identify a big patch of the planet that has very few resource nodes and smack down the blueprint there.

I'm more of the opinion your blueprints are more like prefabricated cabinets ... Like yes they are modular pieces that you can do something special with if you are creative enough. I'm of the opinion it's past just reusing a saw. But I agree it's not playing the game for you either.

@JasonEllingsworth Жыл бұрын
Well your analogy or metaphor or whatever still works. Yes, you are ruining the game by using these...and causing it to be boring much faster. I am also absolutely sick of being a carpenter and building houses/offices. A more accurate statement, is using your blueprints is like sitting down to solve a puzzle piece by piece, getting frustrated, and some guy just slaps one down on the table that already has the pieces put together. This game's meat and potatoes is all about solving the logistics of getting one item to another location, doing it poorly multiple times, and finally doing it cleanly. It is all about the sense of accomplishment from that. If people want to skip that, it is their loss...but it is still radically shortening the lifespan that someone will have with this game.

You are over complicating what should be a very simple task of extract and transport. You admit it’s tedious and time consuming but you are too stubborn to do it right. 1 ore gives 1 plate. No reason to set up remote factory, actually now that I think about it…it would free up a lot of space on the home planet …but I don’t need more space… so you are still wrong.
