BATS were one of the best clubs in the SF Bay Area. Went on tour with them in '87 to New Zealand and Australia. There once was a time when four games would be going on at the same time on any given Saturday at the Polo Grounds in Golden Gate Park, December/January through to March and April. San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby Club has kept the game alive on Treasure Island at their facility.

I played for the Capitols back in the day and have fond memories of Hawley and Blanchfield; both were superior athletes and ruggers! The Caps were cowboy style ruggers but we had great fun even though we were chewed up and spat out by the superior rugby teams like the BATS. Indeed it is a worldwide fraternity of men that love heated quality competition and warm camaraderie! It is a sport that exceeds good quality sex in terms of fun and longevity!
