Cas, I never shop the Dollar Tree and last weekend while waiting for a table at a restaurant, my 21-yr old son said, let's go next door to Dollar Tree. Whoa! Who knew that lots of the stuff is made in USA, pretty high quality vases, etc. and all the stuff you already knew...I certainly didn't. 😀 Can't wait to layer and update some of my older decor; I love the pinecone/hurricane with fairly lights - so simple and effective. Your home decorations are beautiful. Using a higher-end focal tree, and then adding in dollar tree trees is brilliant! Reminds me of the designer trick of mixing faux plants with real ones, especially useful for plants used higher up where it's impossible to water without a ladder! I have fake plants on top of my bookcase draping down, and real plants throughout the lower shelves. Not a single person has ever asked if the top-shelf plants are fake.

I love the homey look of handmade decorations. Every few years the kids and I make cinnamon “cookie” ornaments and decorate them with glitter glue. Year after year they seem to hold their scent. I also made hat ornaments the last couple years from yarn and paper towel tubes. Very cute. It’s fun to find simple things the whole family can do.

Love using pinecones. especially the huge sugar pine cones we find high in the mountains. Put in oven to turn the pitch to a glaze. Sometimes bleaching the little ones for a light wood look that keeps them from turning dark over the years. I tuck them in all over my tree.
