I don't know when everything changed. The in thing now is the day after Christmas to take everything down. I remember years ago when I was younger, Christmas to Epiphany was more celebrated. Friends and family would stop in casually during this time, and everything didn't seem so rushed. Miss those days. Now today, Christmas starts the day after Halloween and Valentine's the day after Christmas.

Since my kids married into Christian Catholic families, we all together celebrating both dates and our decorations stays up for more than month and a half. For us is well worth all the time and energy that we spend setting it all up.

It’s our tradition to keep our trees and decorations up until January 7th, the day after Epiphany. The 12 days of Christmas begin on Christmas Day and ends on Epiphany, which is supposed to be the day that the three wise men came to pay homage to the Christ Child. Great video! It’s so nice to put away the decorations and prepare for the new year. I’m a little concerned about all the comments about when it is appropriate to take down Christmas decor, particularly the comment that suggested that people who take decor down before January 6th are “pretend Christians”. How a person worships Jesus and celebrates his birth is personal and doesn’t require decorations at all.

In Puerto Rico we love Christmas a lot. We start Christmas decorations after Halloween and take down the decoration by January 20 others wait until February 2. When we have the celebration Candlemas, is celebrated on 2 February and marks the return of light, a symbol of protection and prosperity. This Christian festival commemorates the presentation of Jesus at the Temple of Jerusalem, referring to him as the light of the people of Israel. Falling exactly 40 days after Christmas, Candlemas (or the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary) was observed as the official end of Christmas in medieval England.

It seems as much as I try to organize and donate, the Christmas collection just grows and grows, but I love it all!

Only a suggestion that I wish we could’ve done at my old job, but it seems prudent to glue or permanently attach all the ornaments to the tree and just wrap it in plastic and store it all ready to go. It's an old house. Unfortunately, old houses are being overly modernized or torn down because of lack of knowledge about them. People just want a house so they buy one and paint the wood or tear it out for more modern and clean lines. Many of these old houses are very expensive to heat, cool, insure, and maintain so they end up in really bad condition and people want to tear them down... because the don't realize that these houses were made to last and can be saved and restored in almost all cases. Fortunately, the garden answer family appreciates and respects what they have.
