If we're honest your shop looks like most of ours. A work in progress with a few projects thrown in.

Looking good. It seems like the more you organize, the more you find to organize if that makes sense. I was lucky, and a town neer me replaced all the school lockers and gave away the old ones, I added shelves in them and hung them on the wall 12 in a row. It made a huge difference. Thanks for sharing

What you say makes perfect sense. I do my best not to fill up all my space, but I’m not doing a very good job of it. Finding a bunch of free lockers would be a windfall. Sounds like what you have works well. Thanks for sharing and have a great day.

Your new paint shelf is one of those things every time you grab something off it you'll look at it and say "Why Didn't I Build That Years Ago".

My shop is enclosed in a corner of our garage . Its 8½x8½ , with a 10 foot ceiling . Organization is ALWAYS on my mind . Envious of larger shops , and theres NOTHING wrong with yours 👍🏻 Thanks for the ideas .

I feel what you’re saying. There have been times in my life when my shop was the same size as what you are telling me. My father always had a shop, and when he retired, they moved in next-door to us, and he build a shop that he always wanted . A few years later he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and Parkinson’s. So, I inherited his shop and feel blessed to have it, though I miss him greatly. Hope you’ll come by and visit again soon. Have yourself a great day.

I just did a minor reorganization and I moved a couple things from one wall to another. It makes more sense now, but I still keep walking over to the "old spot" I had things!

This is a great video. I really need to straighten up my shop. I like what you did with the paint cans. we also have a lot of cans of paint all over the place. This has inspired me to go through the cans and get rid of the really old stuff and organize what I want to keep. Between this video and the caddy challenge , I have decided to make October shop clean and organize month. Thanks.

Great video! I've been collecting home made shelving people toss out from time to time. One such shelf was built as an entertainment center...the opening for what was a big TV will now be for a shop window. Love this stuff, tHanks for the video.

My shop is packed to the rim with tools and supplies. I need organization so I am in the process some what the same as you going through and bringing things of likeness to one spot for better accessibility to it and organization.. Good luck on your quest and hopefully one day soon we can do a video of the results in a very positive way.

Hey !Bonjour vraiment une superbe organisation, j'aime quand les même choses sont ensemble. Une bonne organisation des outils ou des produits et la moitié du travail est fait. Car on perd plus de temps, si l'on ne trouve pas ce qu'il faut. ❤

You sure said that very well. My frustration is when I know I have something and yet I don’t remember where I put it for safekeeping. Little by little will try to get things put together. Thanks so much for your visit and have a great week.

I have a small shed and a covered deck so I organize everything in milk crates and haul them out according to the project I’m doing . My router is on a small table so that helps . I live in Canada so I get only about six months of good “project” weather. The milk crates do find their way into the house over the winter for a few non messy things . Thank you for the great ideas

Hey big fella, I’m in a world of pain in my shop. I have too much of everything and I don’t know where to put it all. I spend more time cleaning up and organising than anything else and I’m sick of it, I just want to go out and do what I enjoy instead of cleaning. My wife says to concentrate on what I really want to do (collecting and restoring tools and I’m an amateur machinist) and get rid of everything else but that’s easier said than done. I’m planning on doing a workshop tour video on my channel but I’m too embarrassed at the moment to show it off. I think I’m just going to have to bite the bullet and start throwing things out. You’ve inspired me though so thanks for that. Cheers, Stuart 🇦🇺

I appreciate you sharing this with me Stuart. It sounds like you are in the same situation as many of us are. I heard a bunch of stuff because I think to myself Sunday I might need it.😄 then I have to find some place to store it. Whatever you do make sure that when you’re in the shop you’re having fun. Thanks so much for sharing. Many of us can relate. Have a great week.

I'm getting my shop off the ground and in the first two months it was a mess. The first thing I did was sort everything in to piles, so if i owned it it was in the pile. Then I started looking for places to store the piles; that worked fine. Five months in, I can fine thing, I just don't like the time to get things out of my tool box, cabinets, and off shelving. Month seven I started a french cleat wall, with goal of only putting what I use on it, I have a small shop. The rest will be in cabinets and hoping to remove the shelving. It will take some time. all the best!

I enjoy organizing stuff, but the challenge is putting stuff back when I'm done. I've multiplied my frustration by having 3+ little shops with some duplication in each place.
@toolscouterАй бұрын
I can relate so well to you. Sometimes there’s a lot of stuff that just doesn’t seem to have a home and it ends up on my workbench. I am also blessed with a couple of outbuildings and duplicates in several of them. Thanks so much for stopping by to visit.
@beerdrinker6452Ай бұрын
My wife half jokingly and half accurately tells first time visitors to our home that I only have a shop because I like to organize and reorganize everything. I tell people I have so many tools because one day I want to learn how to use them, but if I don't have them I will never learn. Like your paint and sandpaper I keep everything together. If it would ever cool off I might even build some additional shelves. I hate drawers because my x-ray vision has failed me. I hang whatever I can on chicken wire on my walls so I can see the stuff. My wife makes labels for the few boxes and drawers I grudgingly use.
@toolscouterАй бұрын
Sounds just like so many of us. I do agree with you that I don’t care for cabinets and drawers because I can’t see what I have. I’d like things on shelves where I can see them, the problem is they get so dusty and dirty. Sometimes I use clear containers so I can see into them that works occasionally for some things. Thanks for your visit and hope you have a great week.

It seems like shop organization is a never ending process. I've been trying to get more organized, partially inspired by your caddy challenge. I do have an old metal cabinet where I keep paint cans, spray paint, brushes and other painting related paraphernalia. Other than that, I try to keep things organized by task but it is not easy.

My shop is a mess. I've got to do something for sure. I've got several big shelving units but they're 4' deep and very hard to find things more than a foot back. Mathew Peach has a shelving plan I'd like to build as well as a modular bench plan that looks like it would fit my needs perfectly. But like many of us I've got about 6 projects right in the middle of being done. Lol but I think it would be wise to stop on them and concentrate on getting organized...
@toolscouterАй бұрын
It sounds like you have ADD like I do. I usually have 2 to 4 projects going at a time and when I walk into the shop I think to myself, “which one do I want to work on?” Tear into whichever one you want to and good luck on getting yourself organized. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.
@mitchjohnson4970Ай бұрын
Most of my stuff is stored in Rubbermaid bins. Other than the paint, everything i use when I paint is in a bin. My tool belt and anything I would use while building(with wood) is in another bin. I have a tool tote stocked with basic homeowner tools in case I need to do work away from home . I'm still trying to set up my work bench, so everything else is stored where I have room until I can get it finished.

After a decade of not being able to find anything in my shop i built a floor to ceiling shelf. Bottom rwo shelves have 18 gal totes then four shelves of .30 and .50 cal ammo cans then two shelves of sortamos and eveytjing is labled an the out side so i know what is inside. Whats great for me is i can take the ammo can or sortamo to the work bench and back to the shelf without habing to really feel the strain of cleaning my shop.

One tip to improve your glass jar access!!! I am 68 Earth Years as I refer to age!!! no one wants to be referred to as 21 years OLD? In Earth Years we are very youthful, Ha! My father in the day, would expand on your jar idea, with a 2x2 wooden dowel. That expands your glass jar viewing to rotate the view on four sides? It would spin, you know how to apply such screws or bolts in the ends of the wooden dowel! so the glass jar visual would accommodate four viewing platforms!!! Robert
