Organizing Tough Keepsakes is about what to do with those sentimental items that are tough to justify keeping, but are even tougher to get rid of. It's good to honor your past, but you don't want to be weighed down by it. This video looks at 5 factors that make organizing keepsakes tough and what to do about them.

Hello I really like your idea of going through sentimental keepsakes of my loved on their special days of remembrance. What a great way to honor them.

Thanks. Otherwise, it’s a task that can never compete with your top priorities.

Hi Matt, My husband and I are in our 70’s. He was born in Austria. He carefully keep his school pictures too. He visited his old school they had been trying to put the classroom history together from the time the school was built. His album had the missing pieces. Check out your fathers school to see if they would like to hang the photos as a “history “ collage.

Thanks for your comment Ruth. In the unlikely event I learn that my father's high school is seeking school photos, I could still produce them digitally. I believe that it's important to honor the past without being weighed down by it. What's most important is to make the most of the precious present. Like I said, I don't expect anyone to make the choices I make, but I believe that if you are challenged with an accumulation of keepsakes, the questions I pose are worth asking.

Thank you for your great ideas. Now that I am retired, I am going through drawers of stuff I was too busy to sort out, and old photos, and yes, I am overwhelmed. In one drawer I kept a to-do list, which ended with the comment, "I have to stop now. I am so sick of this after 2 days." Well, that was dated a year and a half ago. I think the solution is like you said, set a timer and come back more often.

This is helpful. I have keepsakes of my own, as well as a bunch of items (including, yes, many photo albums) from my late parents. I don’t have children but I do check with my nieces to see if they want certain items. I love the idea of going through these things on important anniversaries.

Great idea to check with your nieces. Nothing slows us down like potential regret, so it pays to look to all potential avenues to remove it.

It is very refreshing to see a decluttering video from a man, without all the filling women tend to have in their vids 🥱 & I can relate because I don’t have kids as well, “you go to the point and are efficient”. Keep up the good work.

Great video! I am 29 and have been given the task to go through family photos. Not only the ones that me and my parents have, but also the ones that my grandparents had (which include my great grandparents, great great grandparents and so on). I am a bit of a Genealogy lover. I have most of them organized in the moment in boxes. I finished a Scrapbook for my Mom and also am working on one for me and also my Dad. I hope to do some more albums with the older photos. My big plan in the future is to do a family history style photo book with the majority of the pictures. I have been slowly going through the pictures from time to time, tossing bad photos and giving duplicates away to family. It will be a task but it will get done someday.

Wow, Jacob, that’s no task. That is a major PROJECT. Good for you, for taking it on. It’s helpful that you enjoy genealogy. It’s fun learning how our ancestors are so much more than just parents. You truly honor their memories by doing this. Glad this video was helpful. Keep up the good work!
