There was an Austin organ in Pennsylvania that had Great, Swell and Echo manual divisions. There were buttons on the key-cheeks that said "Echo on Swell" and "Echo on Great." If you pressed both at once you succeeded in coupling Great to Swell!

Awesome videos, Brent! Al seems like a seriously cool guy. Steven did a great job too, and I always get a huge kick out of Horst (rewatched the cathedral videos before this). Now on to Andrew--pumped to see one of Madison's own!

I used to help maintain the 4/37 Kimball that was in the Wiltern. I feel as though I am seeing that now parted out instrument again.

Terrific, thorough tour of this venerable instrument; thank you!

6:25 Good to hear the Vierne Preambule. One of the first organ pieces I learned to play. 14:39 Interesting, the Waldhorn is tapered like a Gemshorn or Spitzflote. 22:15 Wow. Biggest blower I've ever seen.

Its a shame that they heavily carpet these spaces, as they sound VERY dry. Wonderful organ!

Who is ever going to replace Al when he throws in the towel?

New people are born every day who have the organ passion. Fear not; young people are right behind, and they are learning the craft just as we oldsters learned it from those who came before us.

@@mdtdbe Unfortunately, many churches have moved away from pipe organs, and Freemasonry is not doing so hot as an institution (I believe they are selling this building). So there's not as much demand for organists or organ maintenance staff.
