Ori 2 is one of my all time favorite games. I just love how in the conclusion all the different mechanics come together and I truly felt like I had to master the game to complete it. The visuals are stunning and the platforming/combat felt unique all around. I liked it decidedly more than the first Ori, which I also enjoyed. Part of me wonders if my love for it has to do with the fact that I've never played Hollow Knight so I have nothing to compare it to. I've been with your take on breath of the wild 100%, I could never finish that game and it didn't feel special to me at all. But I have to disagree with you here as Ori 2 felt magical to me and provided me with exactly what I needed when covid started. It's one of the few games that I want to beat a second time.

Totally valid - it didn't hit for me, but I also recognize metroidvania's hit people in different ways because it is so freeform and players can approach different sections at different times. I think my playthrough of Hollow Knight was a good example of that - the pacing and progression felt perfect, but that could have been partly due to where I chose to go and what I found at what time.

This game's enormous disregard for my eyeballs is what tore me away from ever bothering to beat that turd of a giant spider boss fight. I could not tell what was going on in that arena, and I dare anyone to pretend it wasn't ridiculous to deal with.

Really interesting video, I enjoyed the blind forest more after playing will of the wisps first but never really knew why but this video had some really good points. Although the game ran pretty smoothly for me, can't think of any major performance issues even with my laptop not being that great.

I tried to like it (the first one)! But there are parts that are needlessly punishing and repetitive.. requiring the player to, basically, learn the patterns of the events that caused these cycles. I grew bored (over frustrated) and ultimately dropped it, as it wasn't as fun as I wanted it to be.

yes. The unique atmosphere of the first ori is broken in the second.

As a major metroidvania fan, I almost always take the “collecting loot from farther away” perks. My goal is to max stats as quickly as possible, maxing stats requires resources, not jumping around to collect resources is a big time saver and quality of life improvement. Great video though. Completely agree on all points. And that’s reassuring to learn about the bug issues. I assumed my laptop was just too weak so I tables the game until I had a switch.

Ori 2 makes some missteps but I still enjoyed it. Boss fights and platforming was a great time. A lot of the superfluous parts like the side quests I just skipped lol

I imagine the perspective you bring here is shared by some, but missed by many. Considering myself who; hasn't played Hollow Knight, is playing on PC and so avoids performance issues, and plays metriodvania games infrequently enough that the game was sufficiently challenging and engaging throughout. I can imagine that a common consumer sits in a similar position to this, and would reasonably praise Ori 2 to be a 8+/10. But by directly referencing Hollow Knight as they did, the developers placed themselves in a difficult position - to not only better an incredible original game, but also to better Hollow Knight, whilst also balancing the game for casual and experienced players. The shortcomings experienced by people such as yourself were almost an inevitability, therefore.

I can actually agree with a lot of your criticisms despite it being an amazing game in my opinion. Difficulty was my biggest gripe with the game and how it had multiple difficulty options I think the hard mode should have just been default. I think the criticisms you gave doesn't outweigh the positives the game gives, the movement mechanics/platforming, visuals/music, dazzling sequences and tight level design. I think the 2 criticisms I disagree with is how you compared it to hollow knight which to me from the video it felt like accusing ori for plagiarizing which I think is just false and the mechanics themselves. For the Hollowknight criticism yes individual mechanics were taken from it but most of these mechanics are implemented in a different way and these mechanics are not original at all to hollow knight (though Cornifer and Lupo are the same thing basically but I feel like this is trivial). Second I think its different from the original game where instead of giving depth to one single mechanic and just bashing 15 projectiles in a row (which is not a bad thing) it instead gives a more flowy movement system by combining all of these elements together, for example in the chase sequences you need to bash, grapple dash to a jump pad then glide to the next point. On their own they are simple but combined is where the game truly shines.

TOTK is calling you. It is time HitdetectionReviews, Hyrule needs a hero to fight the open world sandbox once and for all.

Oh believe me, I am absolutely going to make a video on it. That said, I am trying to keep an open mind. The changes seem to be going in the right direction but it will be hard to tell before getting a full playthrough in.

I'm playing TOTK right now, has been couple of days and, I must say I enjoy the game much more compared to BOTW. The new powers, especially ascent (the one where you beam yourself up) are cool and make traveling much easier and faster. You dont have to walk the empty fields and spend most of your time climbing. Now you can either build a vehicle of your choice, or look for a flat surface somewhere above and beam up. The additions of the sky and "the depths" , while superficial, deliver at least a feeling of depth to the game, which was desperately needed in BOTW. TOTK is still not the Zelda game that I dreamed of, and it certainly has a big list of bad stuff (mostly identical to BOTW), but TOTK is at least not the worst Zelda game, which is by far BOTW.
@dnzlwshnktn2092 Жыл бұрын
Ok so I've almost finished the game, and regardless, BOTW and TOTK are still a huge disgrace to the Zelda franchise in my book. TOTK is an improvement over BOTW in some aspects, but the direction of these two games, in which they are pushing the franchise is seriously concerning and feels wrong. If Nintendo created a different IP for this open world adventure I would rate it good-great. But since it is a Zelda game, it basically means they have killed the Zelda franchise as we know it, in favour of these generic open worlds.

I've never really played this game before, but I wanted to say it felt weird about the thorns critisism. Don't lots of games include this? The first one that comes to mind would be minecraft as an enchment on your amour.
