The problem with his ult is that if you have hands you can either avoid it or walk out of it if your teammate gets hit. He seriously doesn’t pose a threat in terms of zone control, which is what a mage is supposed to do. You’re supposed to own the space around you in a team fight. Backline should be terrified of your ult, with their fingers hovering over their F key when they don’t know where you are. Like, there’s no other mage in the game where they can have 2-3 items and an ADC can facecheck them and live to tell the tale. None. You will absolutely live against Hwei. He has no way to kill you. Orianna’s R has the same amount of damage as Hwei’s entire ultimate and it’s instant. The only way you’re getting out of it is to flash. Viktor. Syndra. Xerath. Lux. Vel’Koz. All of them will delete you when you misposition with 2-3 items. Hell, even fucking Neeko can kill you as a mage and she barely even qualifies as one. Like, a mage that can’t burst a carry in a bush is just dead.

My only problem with Hwei is his W. The shield is super weak and short ranged, the W+Q is useless, W+E requires you to get in short range. Q's are good and E in general is not great, but is something.

Oriana deals damage while shielding, deals damage while speeding up and slowing and deals bonus damage on attacka without activating a long cd spell. Hwei's W is just so bad and you cant afford to have a dead button when other champs get the utility on damaging abilties with much shorter cooldowns.

To be fair at 12:53 Hwei is most likely fine, just EQ for fear, WQ for speed, and QE for slow, run to turret, you are safe and way out of aatrox's range, you don't even have to waste R, MAYBE don't even have to waste flash, and then you can look for other opportunities

If we're going to compare then we need to also pretend Hwei went for poke just like how I did. I used Q W then got caught so that means Hwei Q and W are down. I believe aatrox q e w has enough buffer time to land during Hwei e q cast. Also since I had no flash on Orianna nor does Hwei. In my head how I visualize this makes me feel like Hwei gets clapped while Orianna almost escapes due to her W movement being on very low cd. The whole reason why I almost lived is cuz my slow down and speed up from W caused a massive gap between aatrox to the point he had to flash. I cannot see how a flash less and Q W on cd Hwei could possibly escape an Aatrox who has flash nearly as close as I did with Ori

​​​@@pekinwoof2 Well I don't think it's fair to assume Hwei W would be down just because Orianna W is down, Orianna W is way more spammable and I don't believe you would have used WE just for some extra poke here, especially when you've stepped up that far, and also have plenty of mana, against an aatrox with flash advantage (also mb I thought you had flash earlier idk why I thought that), I think it's reasonable to assume Hwei W would still be up here, but sure Q would be down, I think you can probably land your EQ before Aatrox's Q2 hits you here, and I kinda think the fear literally cancels Aatrox's ability, but even if you get hit, Aatrox didn't land W right away and you'd have another window to QE, but if Aatrox's W pulls you ur probably very dead yeah, and you probably do have to spend Hwei R too for the slow

i love oriana's kit so much i really do she's so fun to play but holy shit she is overloaded. they core idea of her kit is impossible to balance without just making her trash like hwei. its prolly why they released hwei so weak. so they could slowly buff him to where he's acceptable.

For my own opinion on the matter I think he will never be Orianna level of strength. His kit is not good enough for that. Imo one massive thing for mages in pro play or extreme high elo is ease of skill shots, wave clear, harassing while clearing. Hwei QQ is blocked by minions and small, QW cannot hit anyone unless ccd, QE is just waveclear and good players know of Hwei EE to drag you into it. Meanwhile Orianna Syndra Azir do these things without even needing to try which is why they pop up so often. I'd honestly put Hwei in Xerath Lux Veigar tier right now and most likely moving forward unless big changes happen. Which means he will be a subpar mage who can perform well but is harder to win on in the highest tiers and likely going to see near 0 pro play presence as a mid laner

Nah Pekin is just giga coping. If ure comparing anything to Ori, Syndra, or Ahri, ur opinion should be instantly invalidated. These champs are pointlessly inflated, are far too strong, and are not in healthy spot balancewise. They should be nerfed immediately and brought down to the level of the rest of the mages. Compare Hwei to Velkoz or Veigar and now suddenly he isnt that bad is he? It's just a matter of perspective. The only sad thing about Hwei is he really only fits a kiteback comp, as long as people are walking into him he is the best champion in the game to have on ur team. His problem is in every other comp, he just becomes an overfarmed support or has to play pixel perfect to actually feel like a carry. I will tell u, I would much rather be playing Hwei into AatroxZac rather than Ori, u shouldve been ganked on cooldown especially since u were playing so far up and are much weaker in the 2v2. Hwei is much better at dealing with ganks and turns the 2v2 with Lilia into a winning matchup.

You hit the nail on the head. Hwei is similar to Veigar Velkoz in style of kit strength. The reason why no one plays those champs is because they are worse than meta which makes them bad in the eyes of extremely high tier players. In high tiers of play people mainly play the good characters so playing Hwei makes you play at the handicap. The perspective I give is from the highest tier, anything beneath that is viable. So I agree Hwei is not bad at all when we compare him to other not bad picks, just never pick him in GM plus
