Another fine video with useful tips. Putting the one turn wind on the mainspring, prior to installing the balance assembly, is an especially useful tip. Keep up the good work.
@spidiq85 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. The one turn thing is a personal preference but I find it typically produces an amplitude of about 180 degrees on a good free moving movement with a good usable mainspring, also handy for establishing lift angle of an unknown movement

All Orient movements are very Seiko-ish. Even prior to orient being under the Seiko umbrella. I think they're highly under appreciated watches. Every bit as good as Seiko and far cheaper.

I discovered your video as I am looking into servicing an Orient 46941 movement. If I may I have a question regarding the automatic winding works, more over the Bearings in the automatic works. How do you clean and lubricante those bearings. What solvent and/or solvent lubricant did you use. Thanks for your time and info.
@spidiq88 ай бұрын
The automatic winding system on these is the same as Seiko with the 'magic' lever push pull system. Clean the pawl lever and 1st reduction wheel as you normally would in whatever solvent you use and after reassembly add 2 small drops of 9010 to the teeth of the 1st reduction wheel then operate the oscillating weight round a few times. The pivots are lubricated with D5.

Thanks so much for the info. It will make it incredibly easier when I dive in to restore mine. If I may I have just one more question. I am thinking of replacing the main spring to give it the watch more life. Where can I order a new one for this caliber. I just can’t seem to find any place to buy them from .

Hi, I have a question with regards to the dial ring . The metal ring that sits between the dial so the calendar ring can rotate. Is this metal or plastic ? Which should be used ?
@spidiq8 Жыл бұрын
It depends on the movement and watch. Both metal and plastic are used for dial rings and for movement rings.

What do you oil or grease on the escapement, if anything?

A very tiny drop of moebius 9415 on the face of the pallet stones. I do this under a microscope as it's incredibly difficult to do accurately without.

Hey, i'm starting to service my watch (first time ever servicing a watch. I have a very simillar watch with same movement) wanted to ask you for tips about lubing because i dont want to spend much money and thats why im only buying manual oilers also i wanted to ask about what oil/grease you are using and for what part of the watch. Nice video i understood everithing appart of the oiling process
@spidiq8 Жыл бұрын
If you're just starting out and want to keep costs to a minimum you can get by with Moebius 8000 and a tube of Molykote DX grease. All pivots are oiled and all sliding metal to metal surfaces greased. A barrel arbor in a metal bushng can be greased as an alternative to oiling. To expand a little the minimum i'd recommend are as follows. Moebius 8300 grease, Keyless works, barrel arbor, cannon pinion, calendar jumpers. Moebius 8217 braking grease, barrel wall for slipping mainsprings. Moebius D5 / HP1300 Barrel arbor, cannon pinion, 2nd wheel, (occasionally 3rd wheel on large movements), some keyless components, oscillating weight bearings. Moebius 9010, 3rd, 4th, escape wheel pivots, pallet stone faces (there's a special lubricant for this but it's expensive) The above is simply a general guide, for your Orient movement i'd recommend the following. 8217 barrel wall 8300 for all the metal to metal including the barrel arbor if it's in metal bushings. D5/HP1300 barrel arbor if jewelled and 2nd wheel pivots, cannon pinion, oscillating weight bearings. 9010 3rd, 4th, escape, 1st reduction wheel teeth that the magic lever for the auto winding bear on. Silicone grease for crown and case back gasket.

Hello, just bought a 46941 and im struggling removing the winder, any tips?
@spidiq83 жыл бұрын
The stem should remove easily if that's what you're referring to? Pressing the release and drawing it out should suffice unless it's internally corroded in which case you'll need to disassemble the movement in the case until you can access it to free it.

Sir, if the hair spring is tied due to magnetism (i think), if i remove the balance and stretch the spring it out by lifting the balance would that fix the problem?
@spidiq83 жыл бұрын
No, this will risk damaging the fragile hairspring. You need to demagnetise it with a commercially and cheaply available demagnetiser. Magnetism makes the hairspring coils stick together, If they're tangled across one another this typically happens due to the balance being dropped.

Hi Spidiq8, Great video, very helpful. Since you look well versed with Orients, i am pretty sure that you are the right person to ask this question. I have an Orient Day Date President Watch. Model EV03001D. It has a automatic movement 46E. I intend to replace the factory day date wheel from English to Arabic. Where should i start. Or can u suggest someone who can do these mods? TIA.
@spidiq84 жыл бұрын
Changing the day wheel is easy provided you have a little experience removing and refitting dials and hands. The tricky bit is getting a replacement day wheel, often it's easier to buy a complete watch or movement for spares. Getting Orient spares is not easy unfortunately but a Seiko day wheel may fit. Which country are you in?

@@spidiq8 thanks. Now the questions is how to find a day date wheel in Arabic that exactly fits and works with orient. Any hints?
@spidiq84 жыл бұрын
@@ahmedyousufabdullah Sadly not! Getting Orient parts is a nightmare, I have been searching for a replacement crown for a Kano five watch of mine for months and unlike other watches including Seiko who Orient are a part of you just don't see spares listed anywhere. First thing to do is to to find out if they made an Arabic dial for the day/date style and if so it might be a case of trawling eBay and local selling sites to find a complete movement or watch cheaply to swap the parts from.
