Hey everyone, be sure to check out Relative Time's comparison of the Bambino to the Timex Marlin which he just released. I guess it's Bambino week! kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmqrhYqQaat-Y7M

I own both of these watches (white dial, blue hands, romans) and the Guanquin is my work watch that can get scratched and I don’t care, while I keep the orient for nicer occasions. Love them both tho, great comparison
@RelativeTime5 жыл бұрын
Nicely Done. I've thought about that Guanqin a few times, its good to get a better look. Surprised at how close you scored it. Must be Bambino Season though, I just put out my own comparison with the Timex marlin.
@JusttheWatch5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was amused to see that you released a comparison too, just watched it, top notch stuff as always! I think I might have shortchanged the Bambino a point or two, I could have given the dial a three and maybe the case a 2. I think it sort of depends on how you're looking at it, to an enthusiast there's not much of a comparison between the two, the Bambino is clearly better, but I think for the average consumer it could be hard to justify the extra cost related to the Bambino.

How can the Bambino mineral crystal beat the Quanjin sapphire crystal? Simply because of the shape of the crystals? This is the first review that I've seen anybody do where a mineral crystal beats a sapphire crystal. This clearly shows the reviewer's bias.
@JusttheWatch4 жыл бұрын
It's a tough call. The crystal ok the Bambino is really noteworthy in this price range, it's a much higher dome than you typically see, while flat sapphire crystals have become incredibly common on Chinese watches. Still this review was done quite sometime ago, and now I think I would personally choose the flat sapphire crystal over the Bambinos distinctive dome.

Thank you so much for this video. Through your link I was able to get the bambino with the blue dial at the best price to gift my dad on his birthday. He will love it because it looks like a vintage Cauny Swiss mechanical watch he has owned since he was a young man. I got the Guanqin for myself. I love cheap quirky watches with loads of character.
@Mr-Safology5 жыл бұрын
Guanqin is alot better than the Bambino, I can wear it with a suit, even wear it casually. Whereas the bambino, it only can be really worn as a dress watch. But that dome the Bambino has, it is stunning. Junghans max bill and Oris 65 have somewhat similar domes ( 2 of my favourite watches, the latter I'm saving up for). Btw I have the junghans and the Guanqin :-)

A lot better? NO.
@Mr-Safology3 жыл бұрын
@@bmw128racer it's a matter of one's opinion. I still wear the Guanqin alot compared to Bambino. But the Orient timepiece has a charm and elegance that can not be experienced with the Chinese watch. Personally, the case shape of the Guanqin is unique and quirky. That is why I am drawn to it alot more. I can also put on a blue rubber strap and it looks amazing. The Bambino is not as versatile, it looks awful with a rubber strap or even NATO. It only looks good on leather and suede straps. It is all about ones preference and opinion. You can not say " NO" without justifying your opinion.

I have a Seiko SARB033 that I got for $318 which is a great looking quality watch, but that Guanqin really makes me question its value prop. The fact that you can get a Seiko automatic movement with hacking and hand winding behind a smartly designed dial and sapphire crystal at that price is a real game changer.
@JusttheWatch5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think for a lot of people this Guanqin, or the comparable Cadisen or Starking, is all the watch they would need. It sort of puts budget/mid tier watches from established brands in an awkward spot. A lot of people were willing to pay $200-$300 to get a nice automatic movement and sapphire crystal, but now with these Chinese options the main reason for going with a Sieko or Orient is down to the finer details, design, finishing and brand. I definitely think Seiko and Orient are still putting out much better products than Guanqin, but for people who prefer dive watches or field watches to dress watches, saving a couple hundred dollars on a dress watch and putting that money toward something that's more your style makes a lot of sense.

Wow man, you look Just Like Brandel Chamblee, a retired PGA Tour player and now commentator and analyst on the Golf Channel 😳 That's crazy lol. I have a quartz Guanqin, really wanna get an automatic with a Seiko movement. Love the quartz Guanqin I have, I've owned it for almost 2 years, and it's a chronometer with 3 beautiful subdials and perfect pushers, just need to swap the band, it has some issues, but great watch for the $30 I paid!
@tomasdeleon53275 жыл бұрын
I received the Guanqin a few weeks ago. I went for the black dial with golden hands, which really goods look. It is surprisingly easy to read. Mine has the Seiko movement but came running consistently fast at almost 30 seconds per day, so I know I will have to get it regulated in the next few months after break in. Seems a high quality item and to me gives a lot for the asking price. Of course, only time will tell how well it holds. I have mixed feelings about the band as I find it rather uncomfortable to use. As info, Cadisen also has a similar model with same Seiko movement, but has better value in my book.The Cadisen has impressed me more as a dress watch overall (case, dial, hands, steel bracelet, size, weight). In mine the movement only runs about 4 seconds slow per day.
@JusttheWatch5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had a hard time deciding between this one and the Cadisen. I really liked the faceted bezel on this one, and from pictures I felt like it had more character than the Cadisen, though I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the Cadisen is a little ahead in terms of quality and finishing. I'm leaning towards picking up that Cadisen in the black dial version since I got the Guanqin in white (or silver). I'm also thinking of trying to regulate this one myself, but I'll see how brave I get with it.
@tomasdeleon53275 жыл бұрын
@@JusttheWatch I purchased the Cadisen in black face. Looks elegant, but I find it somehow hard to read specially under low light conditions, so I kind of wish I had gone instead for the silver one. Choices...choices...

Hey Dave, thanks for the reviews, this Guanqin still is VERY good value for money. I have a couple of late comments, but I think they can be relevant since this watch still is sold. I suspect the bezel to be tungsten from some albeit rudimentary tests. I got the Miyota movement, and not the NH35 as advertised. In a way I didnt really mind, still, the Ebay seller gave me a 10 dollar refund. Too bad that their Submariner homage is so bad it even seems like its not even the same Guanqin behind the watches.
@markgrieves13073 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave. I recently got the Guanqin with the black dial and Seiko movement and it is an excellent watch. The Orient version 2 with cream dial and blue hands is on my radar. You mentioned the longevity of the watch regarding back up and service. While the Guanqin is a treasure to me, I'm sure it will be ticking long after I am, although it's no heirloom, unless my kids are a bit soft headed like me. The Orient is likely to go on and on for years but then a Seiko or Miyota movement should be easily serviceable, maybe case parts a problem, I don't know. I note that people are knocking China. Love the people, speak out against the government on an appropriate forum. Great comparison Dave. On looks alone the blue Bambino is a winner but I have no complaints regarding that Guanqin. I've just ordered the Longines lots of complications knock off. The Bambino has now dropped to next in line......
@pederlindstrom31324 жыл бұрын
Hello Dave, Sweden here again. I am a sucker for green so my choice on the Orient would be AC08002F. To be honest I really don't care much for that gold looks on watches but it just works on this one with the green centre fading out to black. It's on the list as a dress watch to wear on monday evenings.

The Bambino is currently selling for $109.00. The Guanqin is currently selling for $66.00. The Bambino has a more refined, upscale look to it. The Bambino has well deserved reputation for quality at an affordable price. The movement is in house. Mu money would go to the Bambino.

I think that blue dial Orient Bambino is just gorgeous! When I do get one, it would definitely be that one. Though the the domed mineral crystal does give me a bit of concerns. The Guanqin with its specs is just incredible for that price! With that reliable NH36A movement & sapphire crystal, I would definitely favour picking up the Guanqin & use the extra 80 bucks to pick up a Cardisen C 1032, which is probably the best value watch in the market with an NH35A movement (I think you should consider doing a comparison of this & the Guanqin soon by the way) & probably pick up a fairly more decent strap for the Guanqin with the leftover change, thank you.

I'm a big fan of the Tissot Vissodate heritage, which has a day date complication and looks a lot like the Guanqin. But it's way more expensive so I haven't been able to get my hands on it, but the Guanqin is a great alternative for me until I do.

I just received a Guanqin in the mail last night, and when I tried to adjust the date, the mechanical mechanism just didn't work. It got stuck on '22' and won't turn anymore. Hopefully the rest of you have better luck than me.

There's time (eg 9pm to 1am) the date shouldn't be adjusted because the mechanism is working, otherwise the mechanism could break.

Great video and good comparison. I agree with all your points. I have the Bambino version 4, and it has a 22mm lug width. Which makes a big difference for strap options than previous versions. I highly recommend the watch. It’s beautiful. But, yes, you have to be extremely careful with the domed crystal. It is very VERY easy to scratch. I like the Guanquin, it looks great. I’m seriously considering picking one up. Cheers ✌️

I do think this review is more subjective and may have unintentional misinformation. It's not your fault but look closely on the language with thr Guanqin. Frankly I dont 100% believe is sapphire. I am almost certain it's a standard mineral with a sapphire coated. Two I think the Guanqin is a simplistic sports watch and the bambino is a true dress watch. However styles are also subjective. My everyday watch I call a field watch (Orient Eco Drive BM1800 blah blah) but the style also has subtle nods to a Type A Fleiger. Also, 3 times the price doesn't translate to three times the better value. I look at these two as lowest end of entry level for Guanqin and lowest end of mid teir for the Bambino. Overall, this is a nice comparison of two valuable and versatile watches that I have considered owning until I went my own way. I do find your content informative.
@a.j.scalzitti19295 жыл бұрын
Not really sure how you came about the 3x number. $65 vs $109 is more like 30% not 3x. The Guangin and a few other Chinese watches are really getting good (I have a few), but they are still either boring or derivative on the design side.

As near as I can tell it's a genuine Nh35 movement. But some versions of this watch ship with a Miyota based movement instead. So you kind of have to roll the dice.

I'm actually thinking about replacing the hands on this one with something more dressy, dauphin hands if I can find it, or possibly cathedral hands. Another idea I have is to pick up a Seiko diver and replace the timing bezel with a 12 hour dual time zone so I can keep rack of US time easily while in Japan. Not sure if I'll get up the courage to try, but those are the two mod projects I'm interested in now.
