Impressive & Affordable Chinese Watch - Guanqin Automatic (GearBest) Review

I have a Guanqin "Nomos Lambda" copy, the watch on the wrist at the end of video. Mine is polished stainless steel. $59 including $3 shipping insurance. I love it. But I love it despite its LAUGHABLE flaws: 1. The dial (in fact the entire movement, because the date wheel lines up perfectly with the date window) is "turned" approximately half a minute clockwise inside the case. Not sure if I can correct it by opening the case, so I will just leave it for now... 2. There is a mark on the very bottom of the dial visible at certain angles. It's not "black on white" or dust, but a dial finish imperfection. 3. Similar finish imperfection on a seconds hand, very slight. 4. Case is made of 2 or 3 fitted parts, and the fitting doesn't line up properly. So if you examine the side of the case, at 10 o'clock it's perfectly smooth, but at 8 o'clock there is a slight "step" where the parts of the case meet - it is easy to feel and actually visible. 5. There is some hilarious writing on the screw-down back. The writing is crooked, and two words are just "gobbledygook" - probably an attempt of some Chinese guy to create "Western writing" 😂🤣😅 6. On the dial, the writing is both in English and German! 🤔 🤣 7. The supplied mesh bracelet is actually usable... except for a couple of slightly rough spots - nothing as bad as to cut your wrist or shred your cuff, but I feel it with my fingertips. 8. On the side of the bracelet buckle there is a deep stamp "15", which I am pretty sure is not supposed to be there. When I am holding the steering wheel, it's staring straight at me! WTF?! So why don't I just return it or attempt to exchange it, hoping to get a better example? Because I am a long distance truck driver (OTR, for those who know), and I basically stay on the road indefinitely. I come home maybe once every two months. The postal returns and exchanges would be a looooooong and bothersome proposition for me. Having said all this, I still like the watch. It works. From two feet away it looks perfect)))) Even at arms length it looks amazing. But when I wear it, it's a little bit of a willpower effort over my OCD. I smile about all the imperfections. After all, I need to fight my OCD, so it's like a medicinal exercise 😉😁 But seriously, all these aforementioned things put a brake om my desire to ever order from Gearbest again. At least for now. Maybe I will reconsider when I get back to a normal "home" life, so I have easier way to return and exchange things.

Man talk about "a few flaws". I've been pretty luck with the Chinese watches but from time-to-time I hear stories like yours. Sucks that you've got a poor QC example. It's a bit of a gamble with buying Chinese watches. All the best, Oleg.

Greetings Oleg & Bond! Another great review of an amazing value on a Chinese automatic watch! I'm sure that many of your fans have at least one, if not several of these similar bargain Chinese autos at this point. These Guanqin, Starking, Cadisen, etc, often with sapphire, either Seiko NH35/36 or Miyota mvts. and S.S. case, are great values, and usually available for around $50-$60 bucks!

As always stunning watch mate. There is no doubt some of these Chinese watches offer incredible value for money. I have bought a number of them. However after considering for a while, I have just bought a new Seiko 5 (my 3rd). All things being equal there are many watches with better features (hand winding, hacking, sapphire, better straps, higher water resistance etc) than a Seiko 5. However all things aren't equal and the one thing specs can't tell, how a watch makes you personally feel. There is no doubt features/specs wise Chinese watches (Inc this beauty) are a "better" choice and superb value for money. But I went for the heart rather than the head and went for the Seiko 5. But it's my choice, not universally accepted one. Great review mate (and I've noticed my comments seem to be getting longer.....sorry! 🤐)

Oleg, I have this watch too and fully agree , it's a great value watch for the money and looks more expensive than it is. I've been wearing it on and off now for around 6 weeks and its really grown on me - for me it's a no brainer - great looks combined with fantastic price. I still have it on the not so great supplied leather strap but I'm waiting on delivery of two crocodile leather straps , one blue and one tan - they are really going to lift what is already a very good looking timepiece. I'd say to anyone who has trigger finger numbness about this watch to just do it , especially at the discounted price you mentioned - it's a steal , big thumbs up from me.

The Chinese often claim sapphire which turns out not to be sapphire. They claim Hardlex, which is a Seiko exclusive. The straps are generally not so good. Sometimes you get a known movement, sometimes an alternate (like a Miyota instead of the claimed NH36...), and sometimes an unknown. All in all, ya pay your money and take your chances....and miraculously, usually, it works out. Nice review Oleg (and Bond!).

I got this one and it has a Miyota. Must be an 8205, as I believe that is the only compatible one - ie. day/date movement. miyotamovement.com/product/mechanical1.html#caliber-8205 And interestingly, or coincidentally? the numbers on the GJ16034 case back start with 8200. I doubt it's a stainless steel case, either. Great looking watch though. Here's a pic/proof: imgur.com/a/0Rs1p7a I drew the yellow arrow on it, pointing at the directional arrow on the Miyota's uni-directional winding rotor, inferior to the NH36A's bi-directional rotor. The Miyota also lacks hacking. I bought it off eBay from onlyclickshop. Hate to give him bad publicity, but it is what it is. The customer service was fine and he gave me $5 back. Better than my fiasco with Gearbest, who I originally bought one of these from and they sent me one with potmarks/dents in the case and refused to refund me because it "doesn't affect the functioning." Then they agreed to the refund but jerked me around for a while, stalling, until I had to get PayPal to intervene, and they decided in my favor and finally give me my money back. imgur.com/a/W8d6CFr I don't have pics of it but the dial on the Gearbest watch was flawed/defective too and showed lines running through it when the light hit it just right. There's none of that on the second one I bought.

I love mine, too.Stunning watch, even though I've paid about 80 bucks half a year ago (2 weeks later it was down to 60 :D). Agree with the quality of the strap; mine is already broken a bit, and I only wore it a few days per week. But in the end that was a good occasion to change it for a nice navy blue one which really fits perfectly to the silver sunburst dial

I have the watch you showed on your wrist in blue face and it's fabulous. If you are careful and selective you can get some very fine mechanicals from China, I like Guanqin, Binger and Pavan. From least expensive to most in that order. There are more expensive ones but these three seem to provide great quality. Put american names on them and they'd be in the $300 - $700 range.

Mine came with a Miyota movement that doesn't hack, which was a bit of a drag. Also, the "sapphire" crystal got a hairline scratch on it about 6 months after purchasing. All things considered, though, it's still a killer deal - if you get a different strap to put it on.

The watch on the secret link is the same watch that I bought myself for my birthday this year. This Seiko SNKM97 Recraft I think is not only the best looking on the Recraft series, but in my opinion one of the best looking models on the whole Seiko lineup as well.

I'm a huge fan of the Chinese watches, but only from the last 5 yrs or so. The mechanical ones are mostly brilliant, the quarts are in my opinion are still quite bad and Casio still rules that market. Oh and oleg I'm waiting for this watch you've reviewed to arrive, I love the dial and case ☺

I like, where it is going :) I like russian watches, I am a big fan of modern Vostok production, and vintage Raketa watches, but chinese watches are great! I am using a Parnis Diver (I know, I wrote about it many times) as EDC toolwatch, I swim with it, play volleyball and the hands are still moving :) What about Guanqin? It's looking simple but really good. Nice touch with japanese movement it's a great option for something good with not high price for it :)

Really interesting good looking watch. Love the silver dial, which reminds me of my vintage Orient and the fact that it has a reliable movement. If I hadn’t my lovely old Orient, I would jump on it! Good question. I think one of the best value for money divers is the Invicta pro diver with a Seiko NH35 movement. If you don't mind a homage it's very realistic to pick one up for around $70 (especially around black Friday). All the best, Oleg.

NH36 certainly lives up to the hype, but there is not anything wrong with the 8215. Unless you were expecting the NH36. So, I was disappointed too, but not for long. Also, I wish the rotor was quieter.
