I know what you mean Bruce! I've owned a MM300 before and was getting ready to buy another one when I scored an OS300. It is just such a beastly cool watch and has so much personality! Was scheming on a Rolex Deep Sea but I think the OS300 satisfies my overbuilt quality Saturation Diver needs. Great Review, thanks!

I had the white one, sold it and boy I regret it. Now I found the black one. Fantastic watch, value proposition is amazing. I cant find 1000$ watch better then this. When you turn the bezel, you justfeel the quality, crown is buttery smooth, no allignment issues (again Seiko???). And power reserve for me is the best complication on a machanical watch. On a diver or any tool watch, knowing the pr when diving is quite imortant imho. wish Orient would introduce the new gen., this one beeing disc.

I purchased a used one last week and I agree 100%. Was completely blown away by the quality. It's very similar to my Omega Planet Ocean for less than a 1/4 of the price! I haven't owned a MM yet, was planning on purchasing the new green limited 68 version here in a few months but I'm honestly concerned if the Seiko will match the Orient, it's that good of a watch. Nice review👍🏻
@BruceWilliams6 жыл бұрын
Yes, its hard to caputre reading or watching an online review. The OS 300 in person really impresses, congrats on yours. The green MM looks awesome
@diddleysquat45436 жыл бұрын
Nice positive review; I'm biased as I own and wear an OSD having previously owned and been underwhelmed by the MM. For a tool watch, it scratched really easily. The bezel on mine was a huge disappointment, whereas my OSD is holding up really well and is proving seriously resistant to scratches. If you put the two side by side, you can see that the overall quality of the finish is superior in the MM; it oozes quality but at double the new retail price, it never struck me as being twice the watch that the OSD is. If I could have wishes come true, they would be for an OSD with a domed crystal rather than flat, and I'd lose the power reserve as it is a tad intrusive and I'd make the date window larger. But compared to my gripes against the MM (the watch is small and wears smaller, bezel scratches way too easily, the servicing is a nightmare even living in Japan as I do), the OSD comes out as a winner. I also like supporting the underdog a bit!

Yes, this OS 300 has killed off my Seikos. Its the only diver I wear now, couldn't be more happy. Great comment!

Great review of a great watch. I have two of these now - white and black face. The tank like build quality is a match for some much more expensive Swiss watches. It beats the mm300 in terms of value and features, also no monocoque case which would limit service options. People who dismiss this watch because of lack of brand kudos are missing out. Also don’t be put off by the size - my wrist is under 7” but flat and this fits fine. It’s big and it’s beautiful! Highly recommended.

Your Seiko will hold value, now and over time, the Orient SD often goes down fast..like in really fast. i almost bought that Orient a few years ago, today you can pick one up here in Skandinavia for half price (some even get them for less, they dont sell that good second hand either.), even that they are rare, but then again, people up here are really conservative about what they buy n wear, and not many ordinary folks (no watch-nerds) know about the different brands, besides Seiko, Rolex, Omega and so on. Imo, its a great, big, good looking watch, but, the MM is the master of the waves, ...Great review as always (thumbs up.)

that's what makes them a pre-loved bargain.

Why does the Seiko hold its value better? It is twice the price, does not have a sapphire crystal and is likely less accurate. Styling?

Exactly. I paid 620 for mine and couldn't be happier. Resell value is never a drawback if you buy wisely. If I pulled a newbie move and paid over the going rate then turned around to resell in a month I would get stung for sure

Well, i urge you to read about both Orient and Seiko and the history (its quite nice reading..), ...even though they both are great brands/watches (under the same umbrella today..) yes, as u mention, some things are better on specific models, compared to the other brand, but Orient is more low cost, but still good value as Seiko´s popular best bang per buck watches (Skx, Snzf etc.) quality wise, well, they are pretty close, Seiko is just more known and sits well in the top ten list over best selling brands, worldwide. The value is a "need and demand" thing, if we look closer at it, really, but thats my opinion. The MM300 is an icon, just like the Moon watch is for Omega, the Orient havent made that position, even that its a great diver-watch, Just my 2.cents on the topic. dinner-time, im out:-)

I prefer the highbeat sweep of the Seiko, but I prefer the dial of the Orient, including the lack of descriptive text-- Rolex and Omega do this-- placing a paragraph of information on the dial, cluttering it. I also like the idea of a power reserve indicator for a dive watch, especially if it's actually going to be used for diving. But it's not critical.

I've got to ask, why are these humongous divers only rated 300M? Squale's 1000M diver is smaller and thinner. I don't get it. I'm sure it can probably survive way over 300M, but if it can, why don't they rate it higher? Is it because it doesn't have a gas escape valve?
@BruceWilliams6 жыл бұрын
Most dive watch companies rate them for what they could stand in a pressure test. Not for use saturation diving. Even proffesional divers never go as deep as 300m. This one has a special gasket and build quality making it safe for actual use. I doubt the Squale has the same performance testing or specs
