I just spent the afternoon with an Origami friend learning the technique of the Chinese sewing box, and she showed me your video. I love this card idea. What a presentation this will make!

Just watched all your videos! This one particularly I will be doing.....again. I made a couple about 6 or 8 years ago...the sewing book. It was difficult, but I've been wanting to do it again. Excellent video!!

Thanks for your kind comment. I am teaching a class in January for San Diego Book Arts on the Chinese Thread Book. What a joy to be able to share this incredible book! Hope you can make another one soon!

Gracias.

Thanks so much - like the Zhen Xian Bao, it’s a sweet blank canvas, with loads of possibilities.

This is amazing, I’m so glad I found your channel. I was wondering if I might ask what size paper you would start out with to end up with a 2” x 2” box? Is there a formula I can follow? Thank you for sharing!
@libertygrovepaperarts-aker3482 Жыл бұрын
I did some experimenting. A 6” paper makes a 2” Box and an 8 1/2” paper makes a 3” Box, so a 7 1/4” paper makes a 2 1/2” box! Ta Da! Roughly it is a 3:1 ratio of paper to box.

The large template you had was 15x13 3/8". The paper you start with in this video is square. I'm confused
@libertygrovepaperarts-aker3482 Жыл бұрын
The rectangular box is on the bottom and is made using traditional Zhen Xian Bao technique. What this little video is about are the smaller boxes that sit on the top of the larger box, the folding boxes.

What are your measurements
@libertygrovepaperarts-aker34823 жыл бұрын
I’m not exactly sure what you mean - the little folding box can be made from any size square of paper. The final box is about 1/4th the side of the paper you start out with.

Dianne, a bit more info, perhaps too late to be of help - a 6” square will make a 2” box, an 8 1/2” or 9” square will make a 3” box, so the ratio of paper to box is about 3:1. So for a 2 1/2” box, you would need a square about 7 1/2”. Hope this is still of some interest.

I have found the folks involved with paper arts to be among the kindest, most generous, and sharing group of human beings I know. To share our joy in creation is half the fun.
