The Trunks that was killed by Cell couldn’t have gone back to the past and fought with the others because it’s said he set the machine to go back 3 years when Piccolo talks to Cell meaning it would have been shortly after his first trip. There’s a plot hole in that though because Trunks said Cell came a year before him. Trunks was suppose to be coming to tell them he won so it wouldn’t make sense to be going back a year before Frieza and King Cold arrive. It also makes sense that the main future Trunks didn’t defeat the Androids in his time before coming back to the past lol

You made several mistakes explaining this. There's actually 4 timelines and 4 cells. This could be capable of being explained in one cohesive narrative, but it might get too complicated. So I won't explain it like that. There's 2 present timelines, and 2 future timelines. Each one has its own Cell. *(1)* the Main Future Timeline: this is the one that shown by the movie "History of Trunks" and the episode "Free the Future" where Trunks kills the Androids and Imperfect Cell by brute force. *(2)* the Alternate Future Timeline: popularly known as "Cell's Timeline", but I like to call it "Main Cell's Timeline", because Main Cell is the only Cell that travels back in time, after ambushing and killing Trunks, who only defeated the Androids by using the remote. *(3)* the Main Present Timeline: also known as the Main Timeline, because it's the main plot of the series where Cell (Main Cell) arrives from the future, becomes Perfect, and is killed by Gohan. *(4)* the Alternate Present Timeline: also known as the "Unseen Timeline". This is the *only* unseen timeline in the series. There is no such thing as an "unseen future timeline", we see both future timelines. In both future timelines, there is no Future Trunks in the past. When the time machine is finally built, it leads to the creation of the 2 present timelines in which Future Trunks is with the Z fighters. The Alternate Present Timeline, a.k.a. the Unseen Timeline, needs to exist. Because in Cell's Timeline, Trunks is supposed to have already made his 2 trips to the past before being ambushed and killed by Cell. This is Main Cell. In those episodes, Trunks is talking about how there must be a way to deactivate the androids, which is the plans to build the remote. So that's what would've happened in the Unseen Timeline. Without the 2nd time machine around, which means without Main Cell around, Trunks and the Z fighters would've just focused on the Androids, found the plans for the remote, and used the remote to deactivate and destroy the unconscious androids. Unless Goku recovered from the virus soon enough to help fight the Androids, giving Trunks and Krillin time to search for the plans, so that Trunks could use the remote in the future. Now for the 4 unique Cells of each of the 4 timelines. Cell #1 is Main Cell, he was born in the Alternate Future Timeline in which he killed Trunks and stole the time machine, travels to the past and creates the Main Present Timeline in which he absorbs the Androids to achieve Perfect form, and then he's killed by Gohan. Cell #2 is the Fetus Cell born in the Main Present Timeline. He's killed by Krillin because Main Cell was there from the future and told everyone his whole backstory. Cell #3 is the Fetus Cell born in the Alternate Present Timeline (the Unseen Timeline). Since the Unseen Timeline is exactly that, unseen, there's no knowing what happened to this fetus. But since Main Cell never came to this timeline, there are two potential fates for this fetus: *(A)* He could've been killed by Krillin and/or Trunks while they're searching for the plans to build the remote, because they assumed that anything created by Dr. Gero must be too dangerous to be kept alive. Or *(B)* because Main Cell wasn't around to tell them what he is, Krillin and Trunks have no idea what the fetus is, and it's possible that they never even see the fetus while searching for the plans. So the fetus is ignored or unnoticed, left alive to grow for 20-25 years, and then he appears and starts searching for the Androids. But it's been over 20 years since the Androids were deactivated/destroyed by the Z Fighters thanks to Trunks. Without the Androids, this Cell couldn't achieve Perfect form, and while he's stuck as Imperfect, he could easily be killed by Goku since he recovered from the virus over 20 years earlier. Cell #4 is the Future Cell born in the Main Future Timeline, the timeline in which "History of Trunks" and "Free the Future" happen. The only reason "Free the Future" happens is *because of Main Cell going back in time and telling everyone all about himself.* Like I said earlier in this comment, if Main Cell hadn't gone back in time, only the 2 Alternate timelines would've happened. Trunks and the others would've only focused on finding the plans to deactivate the Androids with the remote, so no need to use the Room of Spirit and Time, and Trunks wouldn't have became as strong has he is in the 2 Main timelines. But since Main Cell came to the past, told everyone who he is, and achieved Perfect form, *Cell ended up causing his own demise.* In the Main Present Timeline, Cell caused Trunks to train in the Room of Spirit and Time, so he became far more powerful than he was in the Alternate timelines. So when Perfect Cell is killed by Gohan, Trunks goes back to his own time, the Main Future Timeline, but now he doesn't need a remote to defeat the Androids. Because of Main Cell trying to destroy Earth in the past, Trunks trained and become so much more powerful that neither the Androids nor Imperfect Cell stood a chance against him.

There's a 5th Cell actually. In the Future Trunks timeline there's a Cell who ends up going back in time to cause that timeline to occur, aka the Further Future Cell who ended up in Future Trunks' timeline, and the fetus cell in Gero's lab. So which one did Trunks kill? That's the question. Ret-conned by DBS and Zamasu (who Cell couldn't stand a chance in hell against so he'd be killed easily), but still an interesting unanswered question. Timeline 2: The main one. Gohan reaches ssj2, kills cell from timeline 3, goku dies by cell, timeline 1 trunks trains with his father in HTC etc. Timeline 3: Trunks manages to deactivate the androids with the remote control or we that bulma creates. Gohan still dies by the androids, goku by heart virus etc. Bulma still creates the time machine for Trunks to bring the deactivation machine to timeline 1. Cell finds out about the time machine, kills a way weaker trunks than the one in timeline 1 and goes back to timeline 2.

I’m going to attempt putting this into an even simpler explanation. 1) In the original chronicle (as in chronological order and not timeline), Gohan dies and Trunks becomes a super saiyan. Bulma creates the time machine. 2) Trunks goes into the past to warn the Z fighters. They create the remote and successfully deactivate the androids. 3) Trunks returns to his own time and deactivates THOSE androids as well. He was going to revisit the past to let the Z fighters know about the good news, but Cell found him, killed him, then cell reverted to his larva stage to fit in the machine and went back in time to find the androids. This is the same Cell that SSJ2 Gohan kills later on. (Here’s where things get confusing, but I’ll do my best to explain.) 4) Go back to #2. But instead of Trunks being successful in deactivating the androids, he discovers there’s a second time machine. *Why???* **Because Trunks already went back in time.** In other words, the mere act of 1st Trunks’ time travel created the (original reality where he gets killed) that happened before 2nd Trunks ever went back in time (alternate reality, where Trunks finds the second time machine). It’s still the same Trunks, I only label them to help you grasp the concept. Time travel is kind of a mind fuck, isn’t it? 5) Cell grows out of his larva stage, finds the androids, becomes perfect, and is killed by SSJ2 Gohan. Trunks then returns to his time and kills both the androids and cell with his increased power level from training in the hyperbolic time chamber. This is the story we see on TV. Or simply put, the alternate reality. This basically means that in the original reality, everyone except for Bulma is dead, and she is still waiting for her son’s return. You're missing a fourth Cell, after Trunks leaves the past from defeating the Androids and is then Ambushed and killed by Cell, the fighters in the past that Trunks just came from are unaware of Cell's existence which means in that timeline, Cell will still wake up many years later (likely toward the end of DBZ when Goku meets Uub or some time in an alternate GT timeline)

If you see it that way, then there’s many possibilities what if Trunks when he travel to the past and left his own timeline where Bulma is lets say on a Monday on the 1st of the month and spend lets say 2 weeks in the past (current timeline), fighting dr gero and android 19 and later android 17 and 18, the day he trained with Vegeta, and the 10 days before the cell games and lets say a day or two after he was resurrected when everything was over after the cell games, 2 weeks he’s been in the past aka current timeline. Does he return to that same day he left Monday on the first of the Month? Or does he returns 2 weeks later on the 14 of the month because timelines run at the same time parallel to each other? What if he returns on the 7 of the month? Does Bulma stays waiting forever for the Trunks that left since he left on the 1st and he was suppose to return on the 14 because that’s how long he spend on the past? And him coming back on the 7th creates a new timeline Where there’s a week younger Bulma? What if he returned on the 1st Monday a couple hours before he left? Does he encounters himself 2 weeks younger and now there are 2 Future Trunks?

Original past cell. This is the cell that trunks didn’t know about the 4th cell. When he went back in time and defeated the androids bulma game him a remote for his time but they didn’t destroy the underground lab where baby cell was because no one knew. In this timeline trunks never came back after defeating the androids because cell killed him. Our past timeline the one we see on tv. There is two cells here. Baby cell that krillen kills and original cell gohan kills. This timeline is created because cell went back in time one year before trunks did basically resetting the timelines. Then finally future trunks timeline where he kills the androids and cell before he could go back in time. This is the timeline zamasu arc takes place. So there are 4 different cells 2 babys 1 killed by krillen the other left buried under geros lab. The original cell killed by gohan and future cell who got caught off guard by trunks.

In Xenoverse the game it was explained that Trunks time machine caused new rifts to form as it was not protected by barriers but it did not affect the time he went to. Supreme Kai of time also said that Trunks literal physical interference is what caused Goku time to be different. Remember in both Goku and Trunks time andriod 16 did exist but Trunks interference caused the activation of the andriod while in the future it was not. Some say also that andriod 19 did not exist in the future while in the past it did. Cell counterparts was formed through Trunks time machine well the actaull Cell power and personality was caused by Trunks self. So to put in simple words, the machine is what formed the new timeline while the actions within the timeline is caused by Trunks or those that time travel. Xenoverse explained it very good and in Super it was also said why Time travel was illegal and a mortal sin. Only the Time patrol are allowed to travel time as they only know how to do it.

Further Future Cell is from the unaltered timeline. The exact timeline future trunks comes from. However like you explained no one knew of his existence. The split happens after Trunks comes back a second time to see 19 and 20 and he finds Geros lab with the schematics to 17 and 18. Because Cell hadn’t made the trip back yet they were only concerned with fighting the androids. And Cell in his culture tank was ignored. Trunks brings the shutdown remote to the future and shuts down 17 and 18. However with no knowledge of Cell he is killed in the unaltered timeline by a matured Cell. Cell goes back in time further than Trunks initially did causing the ripples present in the timeline. From this point 19 and 20 appear. Future Trunks arriving in the past for the second time sees 19 and 20 and later 17 and 18 and now 16 whose activation is a result of the time ripple. Fast Forward to his discovery of the second time machine and he discovers knowledge of Cell’s activities. Something the “dead” Trunks didn’t have because Cell hadn’t time travelled back. This knowledge changes Trunks fate as he doesn’t return to the future with the shutdown remote to be ambushed later as in the unaltered timeline.

When we see trunks the first time is the second timeline everything plays out the same on up to the point where trunks returns and sees the androids 19 and 20. And later 17 and 18. They get beaten but instead of fighting they develop the remote and shut the androids down. In this timeline there is no cell so the z fighters don’t train to face the androids again. This Trunks who is the trunks we first see in the anime goes back in time deactivates the androids and is killed by Cell who travels further back into the past overtaking Trunks intial trip to the past. (Fun fact This would mean that Cell was present around the time Raditz first appeared on earth and that fact may have very well influenced the outcome of that fight, like the universe anointed gohan to face cell).

Time travel is not complicated at all its very simple the deeper you think the more you'll be confused 1. The moment someone goes back in time is the moment time splits itself into multiple timelines 2. There are four timeliness in the Cell Arc. In the original timeline, the Androids killed everyone except Trunks, who took a Time Machine to the past twice: once to warn the Z-Fighters, and a second time to join the fight. In this past timeline, the remote to shut the Androids down is discovered and Trunks then goes back to his time to shut them down. That is when Cell ambushes Trunks and steals his Time Machine to go back to a year before Trunks' original journey. This is significant for a couple reasons: one, it gave Cell the four years he needed to grow from his larval form just in time for the awakening of the Androids. The Second reason it is important is because by traveling even further back, he created two new timelines. I believe that if he had traveled to a point in the past after the last time Trunks was there, it would have changed nothing, but by going even further back, it results in changing an already changed future. To sum it up, Trunks time travel created a second timeline. But Cell traveling to an even earlier point doubled the timelines. Timeline 1:Androids kill everyone, Trunks goes back and warns the Z-Fighters, creating Timeline 2. When Trunks prepares to go back a third time, Cell ambushes and kills him. Timeline 2: Everything proceeds as in the show, except No Cell, and thus likely No Time Chamber. Interestingly, this is the only timeline whose Cell isn't Confirmed dead. Trunks does discover the shut down mechanism and goes to his time to destroy his Androids. Timeline 3: When Cell goes back to before Trunks chopped up Frieza, it causes two new timelines. This is the Future Trunks we know. The one who will eventually go back and kill his Cell. Timeline 4: This is the show timeline. Want me to blow your mind? There's a 5th timeline. Cell from "Timeline 1" in your comment, is the one who travels to Timeline 4 and becomes Perfect. When he's explaining his origins to Piccolo, he says (and this manga panel was even shown in this video at 1:23) that a future Trunks was the one who killed Frieza and they chose not to gather his cells to incorporate into Cell's design. Well that means there was a future Trunks in Timeline 1. So where did HE come from? Timeline 0 my friend. This also means that the Cell who became perfect is from a timeline where BOTH Trunks came to the past, killed and warned everyone about the Androids AND everyone was killed by the Androids. For some reason, his warning went unheeded. Maybe that’s why that Trunks’ time machine coordinates were set to 4 years before the Androids appeared. He knew simply warning of the Androids wouldn’t be enough. He had to go back to before they were finished, and destroy them then.

Actually there is 4 timelines. And 4 cells. The unseen timeline which is only briefly mentioned. Cells timeline which perfect cell originally came from. Future Trunks timeline or HOT timeline where Future trunks comes from Present timeline which is the one we know. The unseen timeline and the present timeline are kinda similar and Future trunks and Cells timeline are similar. Trunks kills frieza and cold in the present timeline and unseen time line and Goku kills frieza and cold once he gets back from space in cells timeline and the HOT timeline. It all kinda starts with Cell, really Trunks but I'll say cell to better explain. Cell evolves into his first form and is looking for the androids, he can't find them because trunks already destroyed them with the plans that he got from the lab when he went to the past (unseen timeline). So once trunks decides to go back in time to tell everyone the good news, cell sneaks up on him and kills him, then takes his time machine and goes back a year before trunks gets to the past. Remember, this is Cells timeline. This further changes things because trunks already went back. But that's how Cell got to the present timeline. Then a year later Future trunks arrives from the HOT time line and kills frieza and cold, mean while Cell is already there in his larval state and is waiting the 4 years out to get back to his first form and events continue to go on as we know them. So in every timeline there is a Cell. Which unfortunately, the trunks from Cells timeline didn't know about, which is why Cell was able to kill him. With Future trunks knowing about him from the present time, he was able to kill both the androids (without the plans) and cell once he finally showed up in the HOT time line. The funny thing is had they not known about cell or the lab then Cell would have came in the GT time line lol Crazy shit but it's actually interesting and would be a cool movie. I guess it's hard to say with 100% fact but if we go by logic knowing that they went to the lab and got the plans for the androids in the unseen then I know they had to see Cell there still cooking up. I doubt they knew what it was and just destroyed him with everything else. The whole thing is a big head scratcher as would be a miracle if anyone understood. It's crazy to think that there's a 4th timeline that far future Trunks from the original unaltered timeline travelled to. In this timeline, the androids were killed by the same remote control that this Trunks used to kill his own far future androids with before the Cell of that timeline kills him and steals his time machine. The reason Cell came to the main timeline and didn't travel to the 4th unseen timeline is because he knew that the androids were killed there. Cell knew that the only way to change his own destiny was to travel even further back in time than Trunks did. Hence arriving in the main timeline we know... a year BEFORE. This means that in this unseen 4th timeline, Cell has never been discovered and will likely awaken during the end of the DBZ we know.. aka the Uub arc. He will awaken only to discover that the androids are dead there too. They have been dead for at least 20 years because of the remote control. So yes, there is a 4th Cell who belongs to the 4th Unseen timeline. Anyone who doesn't believe or understand this isn't looking at the bigger picture. It's easier to understand complexed things like this when you seperate yourself from the minor details.

I looked up the dragon ball wiki which had a page dedicated to explaining the timelines. In which there is a quote from the Daizenshuu official guidebook, "Cell achieves his Perfect Form and the Cell Games occur, without Future Trunks3." I found this odd and believe that either it is a mistranslation or the guidebook itself explained wrongly. In timeline 4 (unseen timeline), everything is the same as main timeline up until the discovery of the second time machine, because in Timeline 4, future Cell never visits and so there is no second time machine. No second time machine which means there is no adult Cell in the story and therefore no Cell games. The only Cell in Timeline 4 is the one inside the lab in a embryo state.

If you want something a bit rubbish that actually explains of all of the events chronologically, it's this (btw the original show writing sucked so this is the best you're going to get): Something creates a very similar timeline to the Cell timeline, via some minor time travel event. This creates the Future Trunks timeline. In the original (cell) timeline, trunks goes back and kills the androids in the past (creating a new irrelevant timeline X), goes back to his present, kills the androids there too, then gets killed by cell. Cell goes to the past and creates the DBZ events timeline starting 1 year before mecha frieza. In the very similar "Future Trunks" timeline, they develop *dimensional travel* not really time travel, and rather than going back in his own timeline he *accidentally lands in the DBZ timeline* created by cell. He then continues to hop back and forward between these existing timelines, never going back on his own timeline and therefore never actually creating any new ones.

Cell is actually Future Cell 1 and Future Cell is Future Cell 2. Present Cell was killed as an embryo. There should be another Present Cell in an alternate present timeline where Trunks succeeded in deactivating the Androids. This one is Present Cell 1 and the other that was killed was Present Cell 2. Maybe in the past time line he and begets and the crew beat the androids and remember the past androids were quite a bit stronger (but nicer) then the future ones. The boost trunks got from that fight may have got him strong enough to take on both the androids. Probably wasn't an easy fight like the one we saw though..

The Trunks from further future Cell's timeline never went into the hyperbolic time chamber. Even if he was able to ambush and kill an USSJ2 level Trunks, there's no way he wouldn't have absorbed him. That Trunks traveled into the past and discovered Dr. Gero's lab. From there he found plans on how to deactivate 17 and 18 which he brings back to his own timeline and shuts them off. This is why he's so much weaker.

I think 17 & 18 were created to destroy humanity and then Cell was suppose to absorb them become perfect and repopulate the planet. 17 & 18 are technically one part human so it'd make sense why they would need to go and also Cell can reproduce asexually like King Cold like we seen with the Cell Jr's.

There is actually a fourth Cell. We never see that Cell, but it exists in a time line that Trunks traveled back to. To be more specific, it is the timeline of the Trunks that Cell killed. That Trunks traveled back in time, which is why Cell needed the time machine. Trunks had already gone back and found a way to deactivate the androids. That past has a Cell. Hence, there is a fourth Cell, but we never see him. However, he is presumably of no significance.

There's actually a 5th. The Imperfect Cell (the one who time traveled to the present timeline and was killed by Gohan), describes how he obtained Frieza's cells. He states that an adult Trunks killed the Frieza from his timeline. Look at 1:23 in this video from the manga panel. The Trunks that was killed by this Cell is native to that timeline. So the one who killed Frieza 24 years from his time travel jump into the present timeline was from a completely separate timeline himself.

The further future timeline not only had a native Trunks who became a time traveler, but ALSO a time traveling visitor who killed Frieza 2 prior to native Trunks being born. Which means the Trunks who killed Frieza in this timeline, warned the Z-fighters about the Androids. And the native Trunks grew up in a dystopian future anyway. I guess his warning went unheeded.

The story actually requires 4 timelines to explain, which I am going to call A-D (DB wiki on "Alternate Timelines" actually says there are 5 timelines due to the Android Saga, I'm just going to cover the 4 I have some understanding of) Well, here's my understanding at any rate, please let me know if I got anything wrong. A Timeline: A!ZWarriors defeat A!Cell (larval form killed by Krillin), A!19+20, and C!Cell with the help of B!Trunks (who also kills A!Frieza and A!Cold). C!Cell absorbed A!17+18 and killed A!16. This timeline also has weird deviations due to butterfly effect (aka, handwaving), like 16 being awakened and 19 and 20 existing. B Timeline: B!ZWarriors all die to B!17+18 except B!Trunks. B!Trunks growth in the A timeline lets him go back and kill B!17+18 and, 3 years later, B!Cell, before he can be ambushed C Timeline: Like in B and A respectively, C!Trunks went to the D timeline to help the D!ZWarriors defeat D!Androids. C!Trunks then returns and defeats C!17+18, apparently with the remote control rather than his own power. But C!Cell never went to the D universe, so C!Trunks doesn't know about and is too weak to fight Cell. So, C!Cell ambushes and kills C!Trunks as C!Trunks was preparing to go back to D universe to report he killed the androids in his time. Doing this creates the timeline split between D and A (needed to resolve the paradox), so even though C!Cell just uses the coordinates C!Trunks put in, he ends up going to the A timeline instead, as an egg. Intermission: I wonder who defeats Frieza and King Cold in B and C timelines? Goku, I guess? Ah, according to DB Wiki, that's true for B timeline but their fate is ended by E!Trunks in the C timeline. I don't even want to think about this anymore and why that extra complexity is even needed here. I'm not touching the E universe with a 1000 foot Power Pole. D Timeline: We don't see any of this timeline in the show/manga, but it's like A except C!Cell never goes here. Needs to exist to have the Cell-unaware C!Trunks exist. What happens to D!Cell is unknown, though DB wiki is saying he actually becomes Perfect and the Cell Games happen here without a Trunks. What that suggests to me is that the D!ZWarriors killed D!19+20 but not D!17+18. Crazy! I guess C!Trunks was REALLY careless, which also meshes with his ultimate demise by C!Cell.

The really good thing is that in the anime, the producers combined timeline 4 with timeline 3 so it would make sense for people

In the future unaltered timeline (where the perfect Cell that we know came from) it took 20 years to defeat the androids and even then, they were killed by a remote control. Technically this timeline is what was supposed to happen. Everyone is dead. You really can't blame the fact that 2 different future timelines invaded and altered the main timeline to save things... what a disaster.. It really magnifies just how much of an evil genius Dr. Gero was. Now think about real life. Time travel should not be messed with.

Dragonball has great fighting scenes but stories are all over the place. Final Cell fight could have been better by cutting out the, “ I don’t want to hurt you!”Buu saga had so many unnecessary parts. And why didn’t he Kais return after being pulled out of Buu like Gohan, Picc., Trunks and Goten?

Technically we do see the hidden timeline. When cell comes back from self destructing ... he shows us through his memories of Android 17 and 18 killing dr. Gero and then they blow up the lab ... and it shows cell surviving the blast and then being born realizing the androids were dead.

Reviewing the comments what people are saying is correct trunks did say the Time Machine was set 1 year prior to his arrival.. so technically us looking at it show wise .. when future trunks first arrived cell was there but that's also not the case.. because trunks went back to his future and was suppose to come back but didn't because he got killed by cell which he didn't know of at the time.. this cell came back 1 year prior to trunks first arrival ..1 person said this wouldn't make sense if trunks defeated the androids with remote control why go back 1 year prior and it does make a good question but maybe he figured going back 1 year prior would give them more time to defeat the androids the same way .. Either way with cell now going back 1 year prior changed the events all over again thus giving future trunks life back again to do what he was already originally going to do which was go back to the past 😂 and this time around now he learns of his ship being there, being there 1 year prior to his first arrival , learns about cell and we know the rest from there 😌

Now let's look at how the events change if the perfect cell who travelled back to the past didn't travel back to the past.. well 1 he would've stayed imperfect in the future , androids are dead , trunks is dead and everybody on earth is pretty much thanks to cell.. back in the main timeline because future trunks never comes back to tell em if his plans were successful with the remote control.. we can only hope our warriors with now an alive Goku who doesn't die from the heart disease him and the gang found a way to defeat the androids.. regardless if they did or not it still leaves a present day cell being born as nobody knows anything about cell!! This cell has the chance to become perfect if the warriors don't defeat the androids.. the androids get consumed by cell once he's born.. if the androids are already gone, Goku and the gang actually have it a lot easier to defeat an imperfect cell and the timeline continues.. with this timeline continuing we then get into dragon ball super .. Goku black arc.. where somebody is able to steal a Goku body from another timeline that still went in similar direction to the timeline we know 😌.. if you ask me that's where zamasu got a Goku body as you see from that scene when he gets Goku body it's actually from an event that really happened in the main timeline we watch

Wait so, the first few future trunks’ we saw were further future trunks, except future trunks had the same knowledge of further future trunks, so basically, this is just weird, the writer needs to explain things better, I think future trunks and further future trunks traveled to the past at the same time, except they were seen as just one trunks, because there can’t be two of them, because only one of them can exist, except they have the same knowledge, except further future trunks got ambushed, so then it was just future trunks coming back, again, further future trunks had coordinates for going back to the main timeline which explains my theory even further.

Every time travel opens a new timeline Original timeline where no time travel has happened, Androids kill everyone, future trunks travels back in time creating time line 2 In timeline 2 trunks warns androids and goes back to his future original timeline where he kills the androids and cell kills him and travels a year before freezas death opening another timeline 3 , which is our timeline 3 we watch in Dragonball z. In this timeline 3 when trunks goes back in time and sees a lot of events have been misplaced where then cell absorbs androids and gets killed by gohan, trunks travels back to the exact point where he was supposed to arrive to kill the androids and kills cell also, hence opening a 4th timeline

The cell that got back from the future says that he got the cells from frieza when he came to earth and was killed by trunks....so in the future, does cell already knows about trunks going back in the past?
