Where did the idea for the first FDA-cleared male enhancement implant come from? Cedars-Sinai Division Chief of Urology Dr. David Josephson and Penuma inventor Dr. James Elist talk about the history of different penile enlargement methods over the last 30 years, including the original development of the Penuma implant.
After plastic surgeons walked away from penile augmentation in the late '90s, urologists came onto the scene to try and find a solution. When he saw that penile prostheses used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) were inadvertently causing shortening, Dr. Elist began to think of potential augmentation methods, eventually culminating in the invention of the Penuma implant.
