SCP-049, otherwise known as The Plague Doctor, has a innate desire to purge the world of "the pestilence". He kills those who summon the will to oppose him, and uses their bodies for his experiments. But another entity, SCP-343, has taken an interest in The Plague Doctor. 343, or "God" as he is sometimes referred to as, takes SCP-049 on a journey through the past to see the beginning of the pestilence that has become the doctor's obsession...

This was an amazing interpretation on a possible origin for 049 and what the “pestilence” is. The fact that he was once a common peasant that was immune to the place and who almost lost his whole family from it eventually leading him to seek a cure for something that even he doesn’t have a clear idea of is truly sad. Also the fact that you got TheVolgun “who’s basically seen as the official voice of 049” to be in this video gives it extra points!

@Cian McCabe Bear in mind that 343 has never been confirmed to be the Christian god. He says he is God, but he doesn't have to answer all the questions people pose him. He might just also be limiting how much of his anomalous properties he uses. Hell, he could be more powerful than SCP-3812 "A Voice Behind me", literally the most powerful reality bender. Regarding Clef. The girl that he tried to kill was SCP-239 "The Witch Child". Dr. Clef is, well... mentally unstable, it actually shines in alot of tales regarding him, and he's also earned himself a penchant for lying, so I wouldn't take him claiming to be Satan and 239 God very seriously, it could very well be an analogy or something.

Lovely show of the nature of the plague doctor scp! His character is confused, but he doesn’t realize it, it’s a saddening state hes in, unwilling to change his perspective, or try to understand anything, and once someone points it out (ie god scp) his reasoning crumbles and all he can do is try to play down the opposing side, and pretend he’s above them. It’s really sad, truly, and it really does relate to what people do sometimes, and how fear or a trauma can effect someone.

The only thing I see is this self proclaimed "god" doing the same mistake as everyone. Limiting his reality to what he can percive. Ever thought that there might be something which can affect reality in a way that it totaly undectable by human means and in extention by 343? Just as an example, imagine an invisible, undetectabke cloud of particles. When someone enters that cloud, the particles kills them and stay within their body, perfectly mimicking everything the person would normaly in absolutly perfect way. Now, how would you detect it? I think “pestilence” is just what happens after someone makes a horrible decision, like he had done. The point of no return. It’s not free will itself, it’s choosing the worst path. He prevents pestilence by stopping the dominoes before they fall.

Hi, i play teemo for a living Here’s the thing, the cool part about 343 is that nobody can know for sure if he’s just a very powerful Reality Warper that decided to have a little fun by tricking people instead of destroying them because he knew nobody could oppose him... or if he is, in fact, God. In “canon” there are people who believe the first, and people who believe in the latter. The main argument about this mistery is: why did GOD HIMSELF deliver himself to the front door of The Foundation willingly just to be locked and hidden away? Is it because he finds that tricking a very powerful organization (and actually helping them sometimes) is fun? Or does he want to have a closer look at Cain and Able? We might never know...

This makes me think the plague doctor was a normal man until he got in contact with a anomily that looked like a plague suit that causes people to try to cure a current existing plague (even if the don't know how) but since he was immune it was more like an uncatchable disease so he made a new plague that doesn't exist causing him to go around saying he is cureing the pestilence when he just uses old surgury skills and medicine he picked up from fooling around for many years of being controled. I think that the pestilence is the lack of a genetic marker that would make you immune to the bubonic plague. Something that was intrinsically an extremely rare trait in a living being. I imagine that is why he kills and then reanimates things. Injecting them with an elixir probably made of his own blood or some other bodily fluid combined with various ingredients which would serve to both reanimate and immunize the patient. The reanimation being achieved through more anomalous means.
