The closest example of this I can remember (aside from one off scenes in certain shows) is Megalobox purposefully drawing in a lower resolution and then upscaling (but that's isn't replicating cel animation like what you're suggesting). If you want to see something that looks like this today, try seeking out modern remasters of old cel animated anime. Discotek media comes to mind (check out their remaster of project A-ko if you have the time). The crisp art of the cels looks incredible when you can view it in our modern resolutions rather than through a grainy DVD format.

I just don't want cardboard cutouts animation anymore
This video was so well made that I thought it was actually an anime from the 1980s shot on film. The fake film movement, the false upscaling from an SD resolution, complete with added sharpening filters to make the lines of the drawings stand out. The addition of fake digital artifacts, color correction with glow effects on highlights, burnouts on highlights without reaching absolute white, the 4:3 format, '80s music without the loudness war... You've made a masterpiece!
@mmis10008 ай бұрын
Yep, people these days seems forget that you can't make everything white while retain color contrast. Old animation seems keep contrast in mind and made scenes more vivid. I wonder why movies, games, photography still keep an eye on color contrast. While animations today just go all white?

I just been reading comments again and some people has been discussing stuff like credits, apparently they recorded the MV onto actual film at the IMAGICA film laboratory, then scanned it again to achieve that authentic old anime look. So they went above and beyond to recreate that 80's feel... However, I can't say what effects are digital and which recreated in that lab. In any case, the intricacies of this video are fascinating.

God this is so good. Not only does the song nail the citypop sound, that nostalgic feeling of love and loss, but the animation nails the hallmarks of late 80s and early 90s animation so perfectly. She really didn't have to make it 4:3 but she did and it really pulled me back to those early days.
Marine is not kidding with her love of showa era stuff. This video is not just falsely squeezed into 4 : 3 and then still put inside an actual 16 : 9 aspect with the sidebars, this is natively formatted in 4 : 3 !!! That means if you were to download this video, you would be able to watch it on an older 4 : 3 display like a CRT TV without having to edit it or anything. As a retro nerd, I freaking love her appreciation of all stuff from this era.

Yeah it's like a combo of funk and pop. So when the U.S dropped the bombs on japan, japan was busy rebuilding and missed out on the funk/disco era the U.S went through in the 60/70s. So 80s japan has alot of disco/funk/pop bangers and the whole "showa idol" era.
There are definitely some references to Plastic Love in this song.
